Finally a hybrid inverter video that shows it being used as a true hybrid instead of just as an off grid inverter. Please do a vid where you go over the 12k so you can show viewers how the inverter seamlessly pulls from the grid to support the loads
@@AveRage_Joe Looking forward to it. Keep the 💥coming! Also - real-time / dynamic price arbitrage (We have it here in Chiberia -it's not just for California any more!). CS says the Cube Lite was "designed with that in mind."
I love the UL listings, I think I interpreted - good in all 50 states any day of the week wink wink... I think the 8 x Rhinos are still the way to go for me since I'm burying them in the floor and walls. The rhino form factor is PERFECT for tucking in between floor joists and studs with the proper reinforcements.
Hybrid inverter with Cts on the homes mains so the inverter can supply the main panels loads is awesome! Your inverter can supply its max and at the same time the grid simply supplies any extra power needed
Dude, the Growatt is gone! I'd get rid of mine for that Luxpower too though, or the 18kpv, or a couple 6000xp's. I think UA-cam isn't showing your videos in my feed, looks like I missed a few.
Yep, removed the good ole growatt to install this beast! Yeah the off-grid 6000xp's would be a great option too. This is the 18kpv but EG4 throws there logo on it. It seems UA-cam wont show on many others feed as well. 🤷♂️
Obligatory *boom* response! Loved all the detail in this one. I have a 5kWh that makes it to about 4am if... well if it's just me at home. Otherwise more like 11pm. Would love to add another 5kWh (or maybe 10kWh after your video).
Great job Joe. I am installing one 6000xp and hope it will do the same job. We have grid too for backup, and I have the same battery capacity. As soon as I can pour concrete for ground mount I'll be in bidness. Too cold for that now!
I have 10 Solarever 455 panelsand 2 Brightmount racks and still researching extension rails for the extra 2 panels. Right now planning to mount 8 panels and hope that's enuf
Very cool! I was just wondering when we were gonna see an update on this system. The hybrid aspect is nice that you can power those extra loads in your main panel if you want to. Still have to find time to mess with that on my system. It's a great feeling though when you can just set up a system and then forget all about it and not have to worry if the lights are gonna go out...
Awesome video - I am thinking/wondering that in the summer if it might be best to change settings so the batteries are only used for (backup power/ grid down) and run the house on solar by day and send extra solar onto the grid (net metering) and then pull power from the grid at night to save wear on the batteries from being sucked down every night by the HVAC. Would be interesting though to see a similar video to this one in July or August when it is 95-100F on a sunny day and see how it does with the AC running on and off all day.
Thank You! I am interested in not sending power back. Mainly they dont pay much/only give credit. We can 100% do moar videos in the summer with the AC running during a 24hr period. Daytime wont be the issue but we see!💥🤘
@@AveRage_Joe Ahhhh, i'm a pretty new viewer and didn't know your power company didn't give 1 to 1 on its Net Metering, some say Net Metering will go away completely some day so batteries are going to be a must have.
Welcome and Thanks for watching! Yeah I guess years ago it was a great deal but not anymore. Its like they said Oh Crap....we dont want this cause we wont get PAID. Yes I believe you are correct, it will probly go away and batteries will be a must and the way to go! I just never want to lose power. Happend once in the winter when we first purchased this house and it sucked! Made a deal with myself that it would never happen again.🤘
That was an excellent, helpful demonstration! Really helped my decision making. That said, just changed my mind about ETHOS batteries as I plan an outdoor location - EG4 setup seems better for external placement - cables all enclosed, away from moisture.
Thanks! This system including batteries are UL certified for outdoors. Also the EG4 system is a great option as well. I have aff links and code for them as well in my latest solar videos!🤘
@@AveRage_Joe Yes, Ethos IP65 rated and I was initially going to go that route, but then I realized cables would require conduit anyway. EG4 has that combiner box with knockouts that match the battery and inverter, so it's all sealed. Biggest downside for EG4 is they weigh 300 lbs.
@ArthurDentZaphodBeeb Yeah the conduit box is a sweet deal to mate both up. Nice easy clean install and YES lol the weight. Although it only needs to be moved and placed once🤞🤞😁
I think you did a great job with your video. You didn't stray too far. You tried to not ramble (which I'm bad about) you covered most of the essential topics. Recently installed a similar system ( EG4 18k pv) Already had a soft start installed so I can run my 4ton heat pump with a portable generator. It was working fine until I installed the 18k pv. For some reason it didn't want to play nice with the control board on the HVAC. I tried swapping out different soft starts then eg4 sent me a replacement inverter. After I went to the expense of swapping it out it still didn't solve the problem. Supposedly eg4 has employees that are running 5 ton HVAC's with this inverter with no problem. Mine keeps maxing out the rated peak compressor then it would go into self-protection mode shutting it down leaving the internal blower motor still blowing as if the AC was still working with zero cold air blowing into my house. Still not have resolution to the problem but supposedly EG4 is going to contact my HVAC technician to have them bypass the control board entirely. This seems like a strange solution to me since my HVAC was working fine BEFORE I installed the inverter. I'm curious what size HVAC system you have, or if you're having any problems. Mine is a run of the mill carrier system nothing out of the ordinary so it's kind of a mystery why I'm having such trouble. Before I install the inverter running my HVAC with a soft start my inrush current was only about 23 amps. My running amps: about 12. AFTER: the compressor with max out at about 21 amps (the maximum on the name plate is 20) which would send it in to self protection mode and shut off the compressor leaving the exterior fan and the interior blower running as if it was working okay. With the thermostats calling for cool air it would run like that forever and not cool the house. Overall kind of disappointed. In the future I will probably still install individual mini splits and get away from Central are completely but still it should work and it doesn't.
You get to try a lot of different equipment. I'm curious as to which system you would recommend for those of us spending our hard earned money? I love the Ethos Batteries but they are expensive compared to other options.
I plan to do thanksgiving this year all on battery/solar. I actually hope to do a lot moar. I think the main thing is the AC at night during those hot summers. 🤞🤞

About the Peak Shaving feature. If you have it GRID tied, will it just pull from battery when a peak is detected or will it blend power from both GRID and battery?
Dang, my mini-split can consume up to 3kWatt/hrs all by itself... I really have to install the radiant floor heating... Wow, what is your dryer drawing?

Want to convert those to electric so I'm more self reliant. Seeing your test makes me happy knowing 15 kwh storage is very reasonable for me.
That would be my homes "idle". Thats a couple of fridges, couple computers, router, cable modem and a slew of phantom stuff like laptops, tool battery chargers ect... Could I turn some of that off to make it last longer, sure.
