Seve Ballesteros wins at Royal Lytham & St Annes | The Open Official Film 1988

- For the first time in its 128-year history, The Open would finish on a Monday, due to torrential rain that washed out play on Saturday, and it saw one of the great duels in the event's history.
Seve Ballesteros won for the second time at Royal Lytham & St Annes, and the third time in all, but only after a thrilling final-round of 65 to beat Nick Price by two strokes.
Price had led by two from the Spaniard and defending Champion Golfer Nick Faldo, with all three playing in the same group.
All of them birdied the sixth but when the other two eagled the seventh and Faldo only parred, the Englishman drifted out of contention, finishing with a 71 in third place, six behind the winner. Price played the six holes from the sixth to the 11th in four-under but went from one ahead to one behind as Ballesteros had played them in six under.

I love how perfectly these Offical films capture the eras they were in, the intro here is so 80’s and the Jack Nicklaus 1970 Offical film has that classic 70’s era funk music and cut shots. Love it
Seve’s 3 opens are probably the best 3 opens I’ve seen.
There will never be another Seve. For those of us lucky enough to have been able to watch him in his prime will never forget how truly great he was. RIP, great man!
In his prime before the hand & back injuries kicked in he played golf on a level that surpassed any golfer that ever played the game. Pure genius!
Only God can know how many times I have watched this video, my mom bought this video in VHS tape when I was 10 years old, and honestly, I could watch this video as many time as hours has a day. This video has a great power, inspiration and motivation for any golfer.
You need to get out more if this is the highlight of your life. Absolutely pathetic.
A little harsh Shannon!
I was there as a local 14 year old. Sat in the 18th grandstand all day to see the tournament conclude.
Will never forget Seve’s chip that sealed it for him.
Such a privilege to see him play
On a Monday in July I headed the 40 miles to Lytham to watch the delayed final round. A stella battle between Price, Faldo and of course the eventual winner Seve. A great spectacle and one of the most memorable days' sport I got to see in person. RIP Seve, the greatest.
The guy simply had it all, except more time. R.I.P. my favorite golfer.
On his day he was the greatest golfer ever. Pure genius!
It was exactly like the commentator said. An unbelievable display of golfing virtuosity.
Thank you for posting this R&A. I’ve played golf for 33 years and this is the tournament that ignited my passion for the game. The reason? Seve. His chip on 18 was mesmerising; I was hooked at that point and have never looked back. Seve, my hero. RIP 💙
I know Im asking the wrong place but does someone know a trick to get back into an instagram account?
I stupidly forgot my account password. I love any assistance you can give me!
@Terrell Braxton Instablaster ;)
@Jaxtyn Allan i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm in the hacking process atm.
Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Jaxtyn Allan it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thank you so much you saved my ass !
@Terrell Braxton Glad I could help :)
Best short game ever lived...RIP Seve!!!
I Love You Seve, Thanks For The Memories.
What a match on the final day between Seve & Price! An incredible display of putting by Ballesteros. You have to feel for Nick Price. But at least he can take solace in knowing he was beaten by an all-time great. Love watching these old Open tournaments back!
Ballesteros is and has always been the coolest squire on the course.
Seve was the most talented and exciting player ever. He has everything, good looking, good swing, great smile, passion, a terrible fighter and competitor.
A True Legend RIP “seve”🏌️♂️
Seve legend icon superstar so charismatic sadly missed.
51:23. Seve’s greatness. Sadly this was his final major victory.
The intro music...80's baby
with a name like that he could'nt be someone else
This one is worth it just for the soundtrack alone!
Awesome putting by seve🙏
Finally, been waiting for this one!!
Seve looked poised to win 5 more majors after this great performance. Sadly, it wasn't meant to be.
Any plans to upload his first win here in 1979? Love to see it, thanks for these upload 👏❤️
It’s on here
These were the days drove up on the day, got your tickets at the gate, no ballots, crowds everywhere, loved it
Crackin tash and mullet at 6:29
Seve wins his last major at age 31.
I never realized how good faldos chip was on the last as well.... who knew..
Just noticed that too! It surely reassured Seve that he could get his close as well.
What could be better, the Open with all the top world players, the British fans, Peter Allis, and Seve...I can only think of one change...Royal Portrush...nothing against RL&st.Annes
vamos senor, rapido .
The British fans are the best.
nice film
Must be nice to take out your driver knowing the gallery and Marshalls are going to find it if you slice or hook.
At last!!!
I thought Seve was great but I was always a Faldo fan. I always like to see an English player the best in the world. Which Faldo was for a few years.
His brilliance, his flamboyance, his intensity so much missed on tour these days. All modern players are so boring in comparison. Or maybe it's the PC world we live in. Can't imagine Seve being woke. He knew what a woman was.
