Every day occurrence in the US of A's. This is what happens when you put more importance on roads than rails. You don't see level crossings every 500ft on a mainline anywhere in Europe or China.
A huge problem is lots of crossings in the US were probably initially built when they had almost no vehicle traffic. And then suburban sprawl hit and neither side wanted to alter their path. RR didnt want to go below grade or elevate and the DOT didnt want to build an overpass. This is why the Amtrak Acela runs slow in Connecticut, it cannot belt through grade crossings at 155mph. Japan and Europe did their bullet trains right, They put them on grade separated or elevated trackage that was purely dedicated to passenger rail service. This means no crossings and idiot driver interactions, As well as not sharing with freight companies who have no fracks to give about good smooth rails for high speed.
God bless these railroad workers. The truck driver should have been charged. How can you blame the conductors when the train cannot stop. People are so stupid.
It all depends on the track speed limits at that point in the subdivision... Let's go with 65 to 80... It didn't take but a few seconds to blow thru the crossing at speed. I think I counted 14 cars and 3 F40s, so perhaps 1,400' consist...
The truck driver should be in the custody of the local sheriff by now. How does one not figure out that one has to stop for trains? He got too worried about being somewhere in a hurry, and it could have cost him his life. Now, it will cost him damages and hopefully his licence gets revoked too.
Now, now. HHH did a few things I very much disliked... But that is no reason to damage a perfectly good business car. I want the Wisconsin Central back!
Let's not forget that the poor truck, thru no fault of its own, was absolutely totaled. Have not seen a report on the working conditions of the underware.
I was a cop in a small Georgia town with about 8 grade crossings, And I would always write tickets to the IDIOTS I saw driving around the downed crossing gates, Many people complained to the chief about my actions, until an incident happened one day when 2 teen girls were killed by a freight train passing through town, weeks later the Mayor & Council gave me and award for safety, commenting on the many lives saved by enforcing traffic laws at grade crossings, Dumbest thing I ever earned !!!!!!
That’s one thing I don’t miss in law enforcement, public officials that looks for a reason to fire a officer for doing his job until a accident occurs with loss of life. A accident occurs and has the public’s attention, city officials turn to you because they’re using you as their knight in shining armor to make them look good. I don’t miss that job at all.
You're a good LEO. When I was in the Army, in one of the many times I had to attend suicide prevention training, the instructor tried to innovate.. He brought out pictures of people who had attempted suicide and failed. Horrible horrible injuries. He even had some interviews with people who failed.. One always stuck out in my mind where a woman decided to douse herself in gasoline in her car and then set herself on fire. Well.. she changed her mind about 10 seconds into it.. she went to grab the door handle and when she grabed it all the skin on her hands melted to it.. when she pulled away her fingers stayed attached to the handle.. someone came up and smashed the window out and pulled her out. As a veteran who has seen real combat and real battlefield horror and the associated depression, the thought has occasionally bubbled up in the back of my mind.. but then i always think about that poor lady and it shocks me out of it. I some times think this is some of the best training i ever got.. I some times think teens should be forced to watch videos of things like train crashes to let them see EXACTLY how it will go down if it happens to them. There is no arguing with multiple tons of steel on a determined course. One of the hard things with alcohol is that it inhibits the risk/reward evaluation in decision making.. the goal should be to teach people not to even make the evaluation and realize that the cost of losing always exceeds the thrill of success... running from the cops is a perfect example of the stupidity of which i refer. Oh.. as a side note.. the Sergeant First Class who gave us that class was reprimanded for causing emotional discomfort.. That was the day I decided the army wasn't for me.
@@DocHellfish When I attended Driver's Education in high school many years ago, photographs of horribly mutilated car crash victims impressed on me to drive defensively. I can obey every law but I might be the only one doing that.
@Andrew Wetzel if you are serious about becoming a railroader, look into the smaller Class 3 railroads. These take freight from the big class 1 railroads and bring them to the end customer. Think about your skills and what type of work you can do on the railroad with minimal or no training. The good thing about Class 3 railroads is everyone wears multiple hats. You might start off doing track maintenance or rail car repair and over time get trained as a conductor and eventually as an engineer if that’s your goal. The larger railroads generally want people with railroad experience to start. Or, they want you to relocate. I became a railroader by approaching a Class 3 and offering to work for free for one month. I got the job, started in locomotive maintenance and worked my way up to engineer. Good luck!
Too common, very illegal, and always unsafe. Unless a law enforcement or railroad employee directs you to go around a lowered gate, *NEVER EVER* do it. Even if it seems to be a malfunction and nothing is coming, do not cross. Ever.
Love the B&O heritage paint scheme of this train, along with the N&W paint scheme of the NS. I just hate that NS did away with the classic F units, to me it was nostalgia at its best.
That's why I love the Union Pacific so much. When it comes to a class one railroad being proud of their heritage, the UP cant be beat with all that vintage, and classic steam, and diesel power they've restored, and maintained over the years. Who would have thought ten to fifteen years ago we'd see a Big Boy brought back to life, and now operating under it's own power.
I would honestly be going after that truck driver for everything he's got for being that freaking stupid. There really should be a Zero tolerance policy for this kind of stuff. but everyone blames the Conductors and Engineers for not stopping in time.
Before they blame it on the engineers and conductors they should do some research on how long a train takes to stop while it’s going about 50-60 mph. Have they ever heard of a train stopping before hitting a car? I don’t think they have.
If only there was some form of safety device to prevent this. Like, a well-lit, highly-reflective control arm with flashing lights around it to block people's way onto the tracks when it isn't safe to cross. Perhaps even a loud bell or buzzer just in case someone isn't paying attention. Oh. Right. We have all of those things. And this dingus drove around all of it.
@@WrenchingWolf92 yeah, I corrected myself in another reply to you when I found you commenting under a completely different video by pure coincidence lmfao
When I lived in Germany many years back, I noticed the RR track crossings were protected by four crossing arms which blocked both sides of the road. In addition to the bar with lights on it, a chain-like fence dropped down to keep people from crawling under the arm-bar.
@@Harry-zz2oh There are 361,000 grade crossings in the US. Only 36% have gates and lights. Most crossings near where I live just have a rr crossing sign and a yield sign.
Yikes that’s a beautiful train!! Lots of pride in that set there, everything looks spotless. Love to see railroad companies that still show that kind of dedication to their image. I know it’s not typical of their freight, but still great to see.
That is just smoke. The truck hitting or getting hit is immaterial. The reality of the collision is the fact that the stupid truck driver ran through operating gates because he/she was selfish.
🤔🤔🤔how very B&O esque. Interesting livery considering all the B&O board guys are long ago gone. Chessie system and early CSX was C&O Dominated till about a decade ago or so. Then it went more Seaboard. Guess it's come full circle now with newbies that want to celebrate the CSX heritage of the B&O? Never thought I'd see that livery on a non museum train.
@@steamgent4592 Another little detail is that the current management disliked the drab livery on the business fleet and decided to make a change. They liked the B&O livery and went with it.
That's hilarious that twice OCS trains have hit a car or had a car hit them. The NS OCS hit a limo, and this had a truck hit it! Because of how they aren't often running, it's kind of funny.
Looks like both CSX2 and CSX3 locomotives were damaged but only CSX2 was set off. I'll never understand American motorist mindsets. They drive around active crossing gates, blow through stop signs as if they're not even there, and run red traffic lights. If railroad grade crossings can't be separated with a bridge, then I think it's time to install bollards at all grade crossings which rise out of the ground on both sides of the crossing once the crossing gates have lowered. Since most drivers have only PLPD insurance or no insurance at all, I would love to see the invoice to the offender for the damage they've caused to the railroad in addition to fines from law enforcement for these types of accidents. Second, I'd love to see a new system in place where drivers licenses are immediately suspended 1-yr first offense, 5-yr second offense, 10-yr third offense for people who run around crossing gates, blow stop signs, and red traffic light runners. If drivers can't follow the rules, remove their driving privileges. These types of drivers are an extreme danger to themselves and others on our roads and the only way to correct their destructive behavior is to completely remove them from the roads. Then if they are caught driving on a suspended license, they are immediately banned from driving for life, no exceptions.
Trying to get around a railroad stop I understand, but as for stop signs and traffic lights, people just make mistakes sometimes. Yeah people should be as safe as possible while driving, which would avoid said mistakes, but still. Accidentally running a stop sign and losing your license for a year is a huge inconvenience and maybe a little extreme. Not every case is the same.

Do not try to "beat the train" ...even if it's a tie, you still lose. Do not ever go around gates unless directed to do so by a law enforcement officer or a railroad employee. Even if you believe it's just a malfunction. Call the law or turn around. The road is literally closed.
Couple of questions: Why have 3 locos pulling 12 passenger cars? Isn't that wasteful of energy and resources? In many of the shots, the rails seem to rise up in the middle and drop towards the near and far. I would understand if that were a regular road for cars, but that seems like quit a grade for trains. Is that some effect of the lens or camera? Or, do the rails really go up and down that much?

CSX GETS HIT BY TRUCK OMG! THATS SADD
God bless these railroad workers. The truck driver should have been charged. How can you blame the conductors when the train cannot stop. People are so stupid.
How fast is the office special running
It all depends on the track speed limits at that point in the subdivision... Let's go with 65 to 80... It didn't take but a few seconds to blow thru the crossing at speed. I think I counted 14 cars and 3 F40s, so perhaps 1,400' consist...
@@thomasboese3793 guess he didn't value his life that much
The truck driver should be in the custody of the local sheriff by now. How does one not figure out that one has to stop for trains? He got too worried about being somewhere in a hurry, and it could have cost him his life. Now, it will cost him damages and hopefully his licence gets revoked too.
You're judging him too harshly as he seemingly must be a very important asshole, er, person.
The truck should've hit the hunter harrison car
Now, now. HHH did a few things I very much disliked... But that is no reason to damage a perfectly good business car.
I want the Wisconsin Central back!
The was one fatality.....The truck drivers underwear.
Let's not forget that the poor truck, thru no fault of its own, was absolutely totaled.
Have not seen a report on the working conditions of the underware.
good video
😳 subscribed!!
the driver will be getting some tickets a big hospital bill a bill from the tow company and a bill from CSX for damages lol
Even so, thanks for caring about people enough to do the work which prompted them to give you that award.
You did I good thing
@@DocHellfish When I attended Driver's Education in high school many years ago, photographs of horribly mutilated car crash victims impressed on me to drive defensively. I can obey every law but I might be the only one doing that.
This was crazy, gotta admire how railroad workers literally go through it all and still manage too put 1000 percent of effort into thier job,
People running around gates is ridiculously common. I saw it many times when I was an engineer.
Same here 37 yrs of service to CNR started as a brakeman and worked my way up cond and then engineer for my last 27 yrs.
Good luck!
they should spend the night in jail for it.
It's not B&O Heritage, B&O Inspired Paint.
@@GeorgiaRoadHD the B&O was part of Chessy and then CSX.. it is heritage
That train could have stopped instantly and he would have still hit it. Look at the damage, pretty clear he ran into them 100%
@@spoiler539 dude people don’t understand how physics work they think that trucks and trains can stop quickly
@@spoiler539 i mean if the train crew is warned ahead of time of a vehicle on tracks then yes
Everyone thinks that the train can stop on a dime, WRONG!
It looks like that B&O paint scheme was made for that locomotive. It looks sharp as heck!
It's not everyday you get to see CSX 1 by itself
If only there was some form of safety device to prevent this. Like, a well-lit, highly-reflective control arm with flashing lights around it to block people's way onto the tracks when it isn't safe to cross. Perhaps even a loud bell or buzzer just in case someone isn't paying attention.
Oh. Right. We have all of those things. And this dingus drove around all of it.
Nice kazuk9 pfp!!
@@Zildawolf It's by Citrinelle, But thank you!
Not typical of their freight, maintenance, employees, respect to Unions, customers, just a show for the $$$$.
Another great job! 👍🏼👍🏼
P.S. The truck hit them not them hitting a truck
Thanks! And yes, I know the truck hit them. That's why I said the truck struck the side of P001s second engine.
Yes, it's stated in the text above.
That is just smoke. The truck hitting or getting hit is immaterial. The reality of the collision is the fact that the stupid truck driver ran through operating gates because he/she was selfish.
Love their new paint scheme
🤔🤔🤔how very B&O esque. Interesting livery considering all the B&O board guys are long ago gone. Chessie system and early CSX was C&O Dominated till about a decade ago or so. Then it went more Seaboard. Guess it's come full circle now with newbies that want to celebrate the CSX heritage of the B&O? Never thought I'd see that livery on a non museum train.
Methinks CSX is anticipating the upcoming B&O bicentennial.
@@thomasdupee1440 makes sense. I could understand that.
@@steamgent4592 Another little detail is that the current management disliked the drab livery on the business fleet and decided to make a change. They liked the B&O livery and went with it.
That is a handsome looking set of coaches it looks good at speed… Peter Western Australia
They are beautiful.
The train can't swerve, it goes where the track does, the train belongs on the track the truck doesn't
That's hilarious that twice OCS trains have hit a car or had a car hit them. The NS OCS hit a limo, and this had a truck hit it! Because of how they aren't often running, it's kind of funny.
That was one beautiful train! Excellent coverage! Thanks for posting! 🤘🏻👍🏻
What a shame
Looks like the ditchlights were fixed!
You're fired
Always bring a spare F40.
Well documented. Having worked as a paramedic in Dunn I am not surprised by the driver’s behavior. Too typical for that area.
Big fine and maybe some jail time, loss of license for a time and just general f' you from anyone who sees him. That's what he deserves
No jail time instead minimum wage on a struggling short line doing tie replacement. (Hard labor)
In a situation like this, does the truck driver pay for the locomotive? Does insurance even cover this?
Nice video! Managed to catch it through Savannah later that afternoon.

Nice scheme. If there was an N scale set of this, I would totally add it to my collection!
Perhaps you should send photos of the consist to Kato. And get everyone you know to ask for the set to be built.
If you’re willing to do a bit of work, then you could probably get all the locomotives and cars and do your own painting, although that might be a royal pain in the backside.
@@silaskuemmerle2505 The first and hardest trick in N scale is does anyone make the model of what you want; the second trick is can you purchase it undecorated? Doing the painting and decaling (if decals are available) is easy to do. Making artwork can also be done if you have great photos of the subject. Sometimes for very fine lines I just apply decals cut to the shapes I need. Beats painting sometimes.
4:20 this is what happens when you think you could save some time and drive around the rail gates.
Truly a rookie mistake of all time
That's insane omg ! Thanks for sharing glad nobody RR was injured . Driver of truck was nuts !
I'll correct your remarks to present tense, I'm sure you meant to say ' IS nuts'. Not going to change, is he ? Or she ?
I hope CSXT2 will be repaired
Already headed to Waycross to be fixed.
What the Hell is so difficult to understand about lowered crossing gates or even Stop, Look, Listen. That idiot driver is alive because Americans make very tough trucks,
Great job by the railroad men.

An example of " hey Bubba, we need to get around these gates, hold my beer!
It blows me away that people still think they can "beat the train" I remember one time the gates malfunctioned here and I went around the gates very quickly
Do not try to "beat the train" ...even if it's a tie, you still lose.
Do not ever go around gates unless directed to do so by a law enforcement officer or a railroad employee. Even if you believe it's just a malfunction. Call the law or turn around. The road is literally closed.
"This is why we can't have nice things."
Thanks for the video. CSX Office Car Special is really impressive. You know it never fails...what are the odds...
On top of what everyone else said... BEAUTIFUL videography here!
I wonder how long it took to wax the train set and how much it took. I don't know if or when I have seen an OCS that looked that sharp!
I would have been filming that train in the exact spot the accident happened. It was for a reason I didn’t go and film that train.
