In my usual tradition of catching up slowly on many of these amazing titles, I've just watched this movie and then go to youtube to explore your great analysis and comments. I thoroughly enjoyed this being a complete newbie when it comes to Bruce Lee. I found it a step up over Big Boss, and in this movie, it stroke me what a charisma and presence that Bruce Lee has. He is simply mesmerizing to look at in this movie. And the story was interesting as well.
Again based on the first two discs only the absolute wealth of supplemental material here is almost overwhelming. Once again Criterion simply delivers..

Fist of Fury is the best all-around Bruce Lee film that represents the pure skill, acting and star power that he showed to the world. I always found this to be Bruce's most serious film which is
not to say there aren't serious moments in his other films (The Big Boss comes awfully close to matching the level of how grave the situation is in that picture). I say it mainly based on the
themes that get covered in regards to Japanese colonialism and imperialism. This film becomes more than just a simple martial arts film but a picture with heavy handed underlyin
political context (interestingly enough this along with personal conflicts would have Bruce Lee never want to work with director Lo Wei again).
When I saw this film years ago I liked it but I didn't quite latch on to it like I did The Big Boss, The Way of the Dragon and Enter the Dragon. I believe it had to do with the ending which I will
not spoil here. But I will say that it was actually Bruce's idea to have that ending put in to prove a point regarding the theme of revenge which is what drives the film from its outset. And
that to me is the best way to really understand the price of revenge which has its repercussions as well as consequences. And with that I grew to like the film a lot more and it became
one of Bruce's finest, and arguably, his best along with some of the best fight choreography that Bruce did himself.
The special features in the package are quite remarkable as well. I only got to look at some of them but they give so much context about the production of the film and the necessary
background of how the picture came to be. The interviews from actors who worked on the film are a nice touch so we can connect more to the film from their experiences. I also find it
interesting that they mention the U.S. name of the film 'The Chinese Connection' in one of the special features. Some films did that to sound more appealing I guess but I've always
appreciated the original title wherever possible. (I may be imagining things but in the trailers for Fist of Fury some of the music sounds like Also Sprach Zarathustra, or Thus Spoke
Zarathustra which was an 1896 composition from Richard Strauss which is more associated with 2001: A Space Odyssey. If so, interesting...). Overall I recommend this film for
Bruce Lee and martial arts fans!

Thank you so much my dear friend!!!!! So much detail and enthusiasm as always!! This is great. Yes, there is so much more to this film, and it portrays a lot of complex themes, as well as being a brilliant film itself. Thank you so much. And yes, I agree with you about your assessment of the supplements that are found on this second disc of the Criterion set.

I am glad I held on to those Hong Kong Legends set with the Bey Logan commentaries. Again, great breakdown and analysis of the film! It is so evident Bruce was given more freedom with the fight scenes! I love all his films but I may lean more to Fist of fury aka Chinese Connection. As you mentioned this film cemented Bruce as a national hero and his fight against injustice in Shanghai left a mark not only amongst the Chinese but the minorities here in the USA! There have been documentaries or stories that mentioned how the African American community in particular gravitated towards Bruce Lee and his persona. They felt a deep connection to his plight especially in this film.

To me, this is Bruce’s finest performance from both his acting and the fight scenes. I get that there are more iconic fights in later films( Way of the Dragon in particular), but Lee brings so much emotion and intensity to this film because of the turning points in the story. It still sends chills down my spine every time I watch it.

U got that right Daisuke about the different skills in his acting when he be omes the telephone man its a complete different man his mannerisms he bends over a bit wears glasses makes himself look like a harmless geek barely talking an great scene people kind of gloss over it the way he gets in there to sneakily look around to see probably what and who he has to deal with great scene and when he plays the old man selling the newspapers and when he gives that takes the man the wrong way on purpose to take are of him to make a point to the others who they are going to be dealing with and when he stands straight up and the guy sees who he really is it reminds of the scene in Superman the movie when Clark was going to tell Lois who he really was and he takes his glasses of he stands up tall and his voice changes it takes great acting to do that and to fool people and make it believable when u think u should know who the person is and to make them believe it nah it cant be, its just great acting.i just always think of Superman when i watc h thoae scenes just the he embodies a completely differe t person and makes u believe its great

Thank you so much my dear friend. I think I may talk about my favorites, when I talk about the films themselves. In fact, I think if I had to choose, I think I would likely go with the films that I saw first when I was a little boy: Way of the Dragon (the version I saw was called "Return of the Dragon"), and Enter the Dragon. But Fist of Fury and the Big Boss are really close behind.

Ha this was my very first Bruce Lee film. Enjoyed the film pretty much all the way through! Thought the picture quality was amazing and absolutely loved all the fighting scenes. I totally understand why Bruce Lee is so loved all over the world. He was pretty fantastic both in his acting and fighting skill.
I must admit I was very confused why Japanese and Chinese people were living in the same place. I’m sure one of you guys can explain this to me. The characterization of Japanese people seemed kind of unfair/strange to me but I understand there was quite a bitter rivalry between these cultures for historical reasons.

This is easily my favorite Bruce Lee film and I was overly-happily to see it get the Criterion treatment. This film just brings me in more than any other Bruce Lee film. I am glad that the Criterion version has the same things from the Shout Factory release and more. I need to track down this other commentary track you keep mentioning. Daisuke, I was also curious of how you felt as a Japanese person when you watched this film for the first time? I know of the fact that this film was very popular in Japan when it was released and that it takes place when Japan and the West where colonizing large swaths of China.

Great assessment of this incredible Bruce Lee film and the Criterion release. A firm favourite of mine. As a projectionist in the 70's I got to run the Lee films countless times. They were immensely popular in the UK. I always thought Fist Of Fury was something of a quantum leap over Big Boss ( which I also like a lot)...in terms of actual film making style and the thrilling excitement of the fight sequences. They are a marvel to behold. Still waiting for my Criterion to arrive but the anticipation is palpable! Looking forward to your thoughts on the rest of the set. Thank you!

So, "Remembering Fist of Fury" as it appears on the Shout release (blu ray) that I have is essentially two interviews edited into one supplement (one interview with actor Jason Tobin, and another with Isaac Florentine). They talk about their memories of watching Bruce Lee films, etc. I think that is is not necessarily "essential" but certainly interesting for anyone who is a fan of the film and Bruce Lee.
