Yep, Those were the good ole days when you were able to get weather on the weather channel but now you'll only get weather all day on weekdays from 5AM to 8PM ET and on weekends from 6AM to 1PM ET then it's stupid shows at night and weekends and i miss 24/7 weather at all times and the only way you will get weather 24/7 is on WeatherNation because it's what TWC used to be before reality shows started.
I was born on July 9,1984 in my hometown of New York City i remember watching the weather channel and dancing to the Jazz Music during the local forecast when you used to get weather 24/7 but now it sucks today because too much reality shows at night and weekends i miss the good ole weather days and i don't watch the weather channel that much anymore.
I was a five year old little girl when this hurricane hit here in Baltimore Maryland. I remember it because at the house my Mom & I were living at, Gloria left a big water stain on the living room ceiling.
Wtf u talking about good country back in the 80's, the cold war was still going and there was crack cocaine drug epidemic going on. The best time was pretty much mid to late 90's.
Boy, I remember Hurricane Gloria very well. I had just started the 6th grade a couple of weeks earlier and school got canceled the day Gloria hit us. After the storm passed, I went out and rode my bike around town to look for any damage. Despite the wind and the rain alI I found was a blown over tree a few blocks away. When we got back to school, I did a book report on hurricanes. Most of the research I did came from my hours of watching The Weather Channel!
Thanks for posting this. I'm from RI and remember preparing for Gloria's wrath. Thankfully it weakened as it rumbled up the East Coast toward New England. We didn't receive any rain with this system. I remember standing outside during Gloria's gusty arrival and commenting with my family about how there was no rain but a definite salty smell in the air. We lost power for several hours. Strange how badly organized it was at the start and then cranked up into a cat 4 monster before weakening.
TWC CAST & CREW (In order of appearance ) John Hope (Hurricane Expert), Chuck Herring, Rebecca Erwin (Miller), Bruce Edwards (Kalinowski), Bill Keneely, Carey Coleman, Bill Elias....
Gloria was my first experience with a hurricane. I was five years old and living in Gardnier, Maine at the time. It was exciting for me to be riding out the storm at my grandmother's house. That's basically all I remember. But for a five year old, this was sort of fun. Not a direct hit where I was located, but I still remember it.
I was 6 years old when Hurricane Gloria hit and I remember it as if it were yesterday instead of 24 years ago. I was in Brooklyn, NY and I remember how much it rained and how dark it was the morning it hit. I remember asking my mother why she didn't wake me up for school and she told me because it was closed. I also remember my sister and I complaining that there were no cartoons on that day, just the news.
I remember this guy! Im in my 40s and now i feel ancient. Although Jim Cantore is entertaining. The weather channel just talks about aliens and bigfoot or something nowadays... not the same.
3:44 1985: " this storm is dealing with the elements here" 2021 " what we see impeding with this storm is some dry air getting entrenched, with some pretty substantial southwesterly shear."
@artilleryisbetter its gonna be a tropical depression 75% chance im not as worried as you but theere is still a chance of it getting stronger as it comes over NJ
Heh i checked out you page, all bullshit about enlightement & higher "seeing"... Fact is your grey matter is flawed, you want the reality of the situation.. it was September 1985... I am 15 years old, the VCR was broken by a cat knocking it off the shelf.. I used a Quasar Videocamera, I placed it on the marble table, leveled it with some books underneath & videotaped the broadcast of the weather channel on the television. What is the great illusion that occurs in 1:07 you supreme dolt!
The good old days. When you could get the weather on the Weather Channel.

@@michael57511 and now weatherscan has shut down ;(
Back when TWC was The Weather Channel and actually put out a quality production.

Thank you for showing the classics

The good old 80's - I wish we had a country as good as we had back then.....
Remember, we still had the Soviet Union and all their nukes to worry about. The Cold War was still raging.

Holy Memory lane. Thanks.
The eye of Gloria went right over my hometown

Bob was far worse out here on Cape Cod August 1991
Great video! I lived through that hurricane in New Haven. Nice bit of nostalgia.
It's pretty cool knowing that there is a hurricane with my name.

I did watch TWC a lot as a kid, but I can’t say that I had a “hurricane chart”, I wasn’t that geeked up on it.
Just got it with Hurricane Sandy.
I remember this guy! Im in my 40s and now i feel ancient.
Although Jim Cantore is entertaining. The weather channel just talks about aliens and bigfoot or something nowadays... not the same.
holy shit I remember this from when I was 8.
I remember being both terrified and intrigued by the prospect of a hurricane hitting my town.
I was also 8 years old at the time. I lived on the east end of Long Island.
Music I could identify:
1:17 "The Cricket Ballet" - Chet Atkins
8:13 "Gravity" - Kenny G
3:44 1985: " this storm is dealing with the elements here"
2021 " what we see impeding with this storm is some dry air getting entrenched, with some pretty substantial southwesterly shear."
Stationed on Norfolk Naval base during this hurricane.
I remember when it hit New York,I was in the middle of it.
Well you got Sandy
RIP Hurricane Fabian. He was here for a good time, not a long time. See you in 2015?
Oh good for you, me too
I was only a kid when gloria rolled through the NYC area!
Apparently, the 1985 Pacific Hurricane season was so active that X, Y, and Z names were added to prevent exhaustion of the naming list.
Wow it really happened...
I think i remember some of this LOL
Gloria was a cat 4, not a cat 5.
I think I remember it did get up to 155mph
The Weather Channel (TWC) was founded in 1982.
I was born getting out of the hospital during hurricane Gloria
This was their 3rd year. TWC first aired in 1982
No, this was their 3rd year. They began in May 2nd, 1982.
What would John Hope think of TWC today? Half Weather, Half Sex.
Agreed, or half sensationalism and half dramatics (Cantore)
We need the GFS and Euro. lol Gloria not picking up any strength. Well that changed.
I bought my silver 69' 4-4-2 the day after Gloria landed.
@pantarafreak79
Yeah he actually passed away, he didn't retire.
Irene don't kill us D:
Didn't Hurricane Bob get you in 1991?
James and Mike sent me
Ha ha, glad to see I'm not the only one!
+xiaochicash What episode was that again?
Can’t locate the other 4 videos
PS - my grandmother's name is Gloria.
Hurricane Gloria John hope.
My mom and Dad got hit by Hurricane Gloria
John Hope (1919-2002)
Really? It was my parents' first hurricane and only hurricane to hit them.
agree 1,000% snowdog
