    This global internet outage is insane! All airlines grounded and i was stock the airport and even banks, media, and offices from the U.S. to Australia. How can CrowdStrike have such a monopoly that could help restore such a massive amount of tech?

    Crowdstrike is the kind of bloated monolithic software that is a magnet for BSODs. On Linux, software like this is split into multiple dependencies and packages that are installed separately, but all at once. Linux should be the operating system for government and enterprise.

    • @troffle
      @troffle Місяць тому +9

      Yeah, problem. Crowdstrike is also taking down Linux installations.
      According to the Crowdstrike community Github, there are three kernel modules. Two are "licenced" GPL BUT HAVE NO SOURCES. The third one is licenced "Proprietary".
      So it looks like their development process for kernel modules ain't following the typical Kernel Maintainer procedures.
      So I'd love to see Crowdstrike taken to court (say in Germany where the GPL has been upheld in court). Then again, I'd like to see Microsoft get trashed in court too.

    I read half an article and can explain it better than their expert. This crowstrike antivirus installs a driver on the machine so that it has kernel level privilages. This driver got updated to a faulty one. Unlike regular applications which if they crash it's only themselves that suffer, drivers that crash take down the whole operating system. To fix the issue you need to boot to safemode where only the essential drivers load, and delete the problematic driver file

      Best comment on here. Nicely explained, to the poster below. A Operating system just can't automatically restart without manual override (from the operator) to safemode. You have other options such as debugging, driver enforcement, configurations of anti malware systems etc that are options. Windows is no designed to do that as its a dangerous to the OS. OP sounds like a IT pro so if im wrong he can give a definitive answer. Great question though.

      That dude isn't actually from Crowdstrike. He's just an IT expert. But also there have been plenty of major IT failures since computers were introduced. It just so happens this one is disasterous because of how interconnected our major systems are now. It was a cybersecurity system that went down. It protects major systems from data breaches, cyber attacks etc. In the past, a lot of it wasn't necessary, or it was a major problem. I'm a gen z (or more a zillenial) and I remember when computer viruses were a huge problem. We had such a bad virus that we had to reinstall Windows. Systems have become a lot more sophisticated, which comes with risks when something like this happens.

    This is not a 'Microsoft Outage'. Of course Windows computers crashed, but it was caused by the over smart antivirus tool called Crowdstrike Falcon Sensor, installed in many computers around the world. There is a workaround provided by CrowdStrike, which can be done by any any IT admin guys quite easily. Get it done and move on!

    In the present time, Microsoft does all of its maintenance and updates to their windows operating system via Internet. This is an automatic form of updating the system. The last updates just were sent worldwide and made all the computers crash. It’s Microsoft fault nobody else’s.

    I just went and learned there is to learn about crowdstrike. Its a AI generated threat security integrated with Microsoft. Their latest security updates called “falcon sensor” which monitors and prevents hacking from taking place is whats creating these shut downs and issues. It’s an automatic AI generated updates that went wrong. Currently they have switched it off to manually which really should’ve been in the first place. The idea of Crowdstrike is that the AI is live and can create live automatic updates to further enhance security, however, this one went south. A really bad one!

Unfortunately when CrowStrike/Falcon is deployed to the public network where all AI data sets are not the same like in the Lab and Test network. And the CrowStrike/Falcon is being trained to shutdown all computer systems.
