You could also release the beer list before you shoot so the audience could score them before the discussion episode. Could be fun engagement. Could even be a live stream!
The 20 point target for "going back for another pint", and the fact that less than half the beers hit that mark, helps prove that Hazies aren't "killing craft beer". It is more mediocre beer that is damaging craft beer.
You did similar with the UK made Oktoberfest blind taste but I think blind taste of British lager from British companies would be a good one, I don’t mean British versions of Stella, becks and staropramen. Lagers from Sam smiths, black sheep, Robinsons, Brewdog and belhaven for example and maybe some Irish ones like harpers.
Love your taste test videos. Could you do one on sours? (I don't think you have right?) Berliner Weisse, gose, lambic. Regular or fruited. There's so much to choose from. I always like my sours, but now especially in this hot summer weather. Would be hype to see videos on those. I could send you a list of 50 beers if you need it 😂
Breweries who use unconventional hops? E.g. A pilsner with EKG or a stout with simcoe. Perhaps compare to the BJCP guide or a blind taste to see which punters prefer?
These are always interesting. I did a blind taste test with a friend last year which incorporated his favourite beers - mainly Imperial Stouts and Quadrupels. At the start we were both convinced we would be able to identify the Westvleteren 12 (this came 2nd in the competition but we didn't identify it). What I thought was the Westvleteren was the Straffe Hendrik Quad and that came top overall. Remembering taste can be so unreliable. After a recent trip to Dublin I acquired a taste for Beamish, absolutely loved it having not had it for years as you can't get it over here any more. As for Vocation Love & Hate, for me it is the best supermarket beer. I've a trip planned in a couple of weeks to drink it at source in Hebden Bridge.
Hype Train : Chubbles would be a good one. I personally think Chubbles lives up to its hype far more than Putty, would be good to hear your take on the series

Some blind test ideas: Brad blind test german lagers one being Augustiner Brad provide the beer so you don't know what they are. Could do craft hazys. Or belgian triple. Just completely blind Farmhouse Ale, could be saison, could be wild, could be brett
Supermarket IPAs got me started down the craft beer rabbit hole. Vocation, Brewgooder, Even Tiny Rebel all sold at my local Co-Op and I still enjoy them on a weekly basis.
Really enjoyed the blind taste test series! Having lived in New England for a few years and recently returned to the UK, it's clear just how much of a gap there is between tasting certain beers brewed in the US and shipped to the UK versus the experience of tasting those same beers freshly brewed in the US. Even after careful packaging, transportation, etc., for most beer styles, it will be a significantly inferior -- and more expensive! -- experience. Certain styles such as stouts, porters, mixed fermentations etc travel better, but with so many UK-based breweries producing excellent beers in these styles, there's no need to pay for over-priced imported beers -- just buy local and fresh!
Great summary and points- personally I don't look for big and bold, I hope to be positively surprised. A beer that's not trying too hard to be anything snazzy but is so well made that I'm in awe, those are the best surprises ❤

How about Blind taste testing some Core-Beer ranges from some of the None Supermarket Craft beer Brewerys in the UK Such as Verdant, Track, Cloudwater, Beak, Azvex ect?
Love these blind taste tests, they're really eye opening! Idea for a different one - tasting UK craft breweries core range. So take a few well known breweries, Track, Polly's, Verdant, The Kernel for example and try their core IPA, or DIPA, or lager etc etc. Would be cool to see what you think of the beers that are highly regarded in the UK and wider scene and if they're as good as the hype suggests!
I find it really hard sometimes to temper expectations (or go in objectively) when a particular beer has good press. I've had multiple Orval's over the years and have always been slightly (or massively) underwhelmed, which I suspect is at least partly due to the unrealistic pedestal I've built for such a world-famous and much-loved beer in my mind. Your wise musings however make me think it's worth me trying to blind-taste it alongside several beers of a similar style, and see what I really think. At the very least, I'll have me a grand afternoon (for scientific purposes of course) ;-)
Something on hops that have yet to be named could be cool. My local did a mixed box of HBC 630, some IPA some west coast stuff was interesting to see them trying to be ahead of the curve hop-wise. Not sure how easy it would be to get a good sample size of experimental stuff!

Or reflecting on a local brewery there was a time when Firestone Walker put out ads from their brew master saying that after working a shift he fancied a simple, clean lager That lager of course was Firestone Lager, a beer I now cannot find anymore as it's difficult selling $10+ six packs of lager.

"We tell stories over beer, so beer should have stories" was a quote you made in a previous video I think I can have the most technically correct beer from my local at 5pm on a Friday but im always going to get more nostalgia and enjoyment from a pint that has meaning to me. The blind tests are always really interesting because they take away that memory aspect
First of all, all those video's were extremely entertaining to watch, so a great move! Second, would you consider putting the beer in darkened glasses, removing even those expectations? Although it does look bad on film. Lastly, on the Festbier one, the style itself is very niche and pretty much defined by Paulaner Festbier. So a taste test of Festbier might come down to: How much does this taste like Paulaner? No wonder it won by a mile! But please, keep them coming!
I think that dark glasses are useful irlf testing without knowing the style, but a bit pointless if you know it's a Pilsner! Will look into doing that though as it adds more mystery....
With the greatest love and respect, and trust me I do love what you do, you do need to re-evaluate your scoring. You freely admit that at 1 point that 1 craft beer you taste has about every single flaw possible with a beer. It scores 8. What would a beer have to do to score lower? Not be a beer? I get that you're human and are scoring to style but I do think that the scale is slightly off for the beers you taste, especially on after tastes which never seems to get below a 4 out of 10 or the extrememly good or bad beers.
You guys need to do more home brewed videos. Then as a follow up video do a to a blind taste test of your beer in amongst that style. Great work by the way..👍😀
Well those in clear bottles will skunk quickly as the Corona showed. Not sure about the others - they are heavily filtered and pasteurised before they leave the brewery so changes in can should be minimal.
I remember a podcast doing a big lambic blind tasting. Yes, rather niche for a niche channel, but I enjoyed hearing where the likes of Cantillon came when the option for preconceived opinion was taken away. A blind hazy IPA tasting would be good, tackle the old cliche that all NEIPA tastes the same.

Blind hype beer tasting sounds great. Also could consider AU Pacific Ales or NZ pale/pils/IPAs. Im visiting that area of the world rn and I got say, the hops and mouthfeel hit different and its definitely unique from American/British/Euro pale beer
For me, if I purchase a “posh” beer to try. Maybe a Belgium triple or a DIPA, I’ll have it first. I don’t want a previous beer effecting my taste buds. Because more than often, a beer tastes different with bolder, fruity flavours on the palette… eg… a nice cask golden ale to me tastes more biscuity and bready after a fruity IPA. But the other way around, the golden ale will be hoppier, crisper and more bitter. Maybe it’s just me, but it’s always been the case. Idea for future vids - more visits to regional brewery’s. Please visit the southwest… we’re more than just Verdant. Shout out to - Hanlons, Lyme Regis Brewery, Many Hands Brew Co, Exeter Brewery, Topsham Brewery, The Beer Engine, to name a few. Cheers.
Regional, especially where beers are not exported, at least not to the UK. It's nice to see what you think of our favs and how they stack up against others, and i want more like that, but for you to try beers you've perhaps not heard of or at least the majority of us living outside of a region dont know of, seems exciting on both sides. German/Belgian/Czech/lesser-known historical beer brewing areas. For UK beers, i think you could take any angle on any beers and I'm going to be happy.

I have also experienced - and I know this sounds silly - that beer has a place. For instance drinking a bitter norther German lager on the North Sea coast match made in heaven. Drinking it in the Mediterranean horrible. On the same hand, drinking a Mahou ***** after a hot day on a terrace in Madrid with some fatty tapas great! Same beer in norther Germany horrible. Even if it is imported / exported stuff and not license brewed.
A New Zealand blind tasting would be epic. We have such a massive range of styles being brewed here with NZ malts and hops, most of which probably never make it your way!
I think you should come over to Laos and taste all the varieties of Beer Lao. The draft version is a revelation (which is why I can't send it to you). Let me know when you're arriving and I'll look after you. 🍻
I would love to see a blind tasting incorporating Untappd. 'Hype beers' could be a good topic for this. Might add a critical note to the scores some beers get (unfairly).
Here's an idea I'd love to see you do, a blind tasting of an imported beer Vs the brewed under license in this country counterpart. You can find imported staropramen in Lidl so I'm.hoping there are other examples like that which will make life easier. For you. Great video as always and keep up the good work 🎉
'We've made up our minds before we have a drink' it's so so true, also if one person says 'I'm getting a bit of green apple' or whatever, then you cannot get that thought out of your mind, it's very hard to be subjective, especially in company.
Blind tasting home brews would be awesome, but as many have said, maybe you could check beers from different countries. I understand getting beer overseas would be hard, but perhaps you guys could try some from across Europe. Lately I've been introduced to Estonian, Polish, Spanish and even French breweries which were a nice experience and would be a breath of fresh air seeing in a bigger channel since most will always stick around US, UK, DE and BE beers. Crossing the ocean, I can definitely say: give a try to some Brazilian wild fermentation beers. The variety of fruits and flora being used in the fermentation has been giving some amazing results. Check breweries like Zalaz, Fermentaria Local, Trilha and Devaneio do Velhaco to name a few.

In most parts of Asia, craft breweries rely on imported ingredients which we believe may impact the quality of their brews. Would love to see a regional beer blind taste test. There are load of small brewer's popping up regionally in the UK and doing a taste test of those would be cool to see. Also could get a bit of North vs South rivalry going !
I really enjoy these beer geek tastes episodes. I often compare notes you make with what I thought on untappd. Often you’ll beers Ive yet to try, rate it highly and will go and find it. Next time in the UK, I aim to try Love and Hate in a supermarket for example (after raiding the indie bottle shops of course). Id like to see one where you try beers from around the world. Could be several episodes - one per continent and then a winner takes all episode.
1. I will never get tired of watching Jonny power through a 16 beer tasting. 2. A fun variant for blind hype beer tastings could be to pick 1 beer with a lot of hype, taste it against 3-4 beers in the style maybe a few established names and a few new comers. See how the hype beer holds up, and with a few less beers on the table have a little more time to try and dive into where the differences are coming from.
How about going back to A Year in Beer and doing blind taste tests from the styles featured each month? Beers grouped by seasonality rather than specific categories.
As a beer enthusiast in the US, especially for Czech, German, and other EU beers, is that shipping, especially temperature over a prolonged time my make a favorite awesome or amazingly skunky.
I don't remember you having La Fin Du Monde. No scores, but tasting notes. Be interesting to see how that stacked up being it is probably the best tripel available here in Canada, and being Canadian made.
Reckon you got a dud with that Tooth and Claw beer, I remember it being a solid supermarket ipa and everyone else I know scored it decently. On my personal scale I wouldn't factor in aroma much at all, my logic being unless it's exceptional either way it has zero effect on my drinking experience. Nice to see a few go viral, I think it's important to remember with those type of videos that draw in more of a casual audience are still very interesting to beer geeks, so they are well worth making.

On the bjcp guidelines. I gather the most recent version went to people local to the style to rewrite them. They're still not all perfect. But they're much better than they were.
Gluten free craft! I just went gluten free which seems to have closed off quite a few beers from me. So, I'm interested: what are the good ones that support a craft/indy brewery, where are they available *and* how on earth do they make it gf? Does it impact taste negatively?
I started drinking again. That means I got to the store and get six packs of craft beer. It gave me a consistent feel. My favorite is 86 beer Holland, no surprise. I was drinking Sapporo even when I didn't drink.
When I started drinking I started Hard. I was a Licensed Bartender and I made my own Vodka. When I decided to drink again I started with a bottle of Jack Daniels and played System Shock. fosho

You wanted suggestions: The Thai craft brewing right now is amazing - worth a trip. So is the Chinese version of it - all done by locals, ditto Japan - reach out if you want introductions - it's hard to meet the right people unless you are the know. Also maybe look at the Australian scene - good and bad - they make the world's best wine but...beer? VB? NTB? CUB? Tooheys? Reschs? Cam and Dave at Mountain Goat are good blokes to help you navigate the product out there.
As someone who travels to Japan regularly the Japanese craft brews are good but the value proposition isn't there for me. Give me a 720ml bottle of craft junmai sake for the equivalent of US $10. You spend more it gets even better.
Madri has never been brewed in Spain. It is an entirely fictional brand, made up by marketing execs who claim it is "inspired" by a brewery Heineken own of a similar name but no actual relation to the beer
I'm not sure that's correct. It's credited with being from La Sagra brewery in Spain. I live in Spain currently and La Sagra make a range of faux craft beers here. My suspicion is that the original run of Madri was imported until the demand was too high and then it was contract brewed in the UK. I could be wrong but I've seen it for sale in Carrefour over here

I agree, but given that half the beers in these tastings are macro, I'd expand it out to the who category and say "breweries need to do better"

I remember a podcast doing a big lambic blind tasting. Yes, rather niche for a niche channel, but I enjoyed hearing where the likes of Cantillon came when the option for preconceived opinion was taken away.
A blind hazy IPA tasting would be good, tackle the old cliche that all NEIPA tastes the same.

Blind hype beer tasting sounds great. Also could consider AU Pacific Ales or NZ pale/pils/IPAs. Im visiting that area of the world rn and I got say, the hops and mouthfeel hit different and its definitely unique from American/British/Euro pale beer

For me, if I purchase a “posh” beer to try. Maybe a Belgium triple or a DIPA, I’ll have it first. I don’t want a previous beer effecting my taste buds. Because more than often, a beer tastes different with bolder, fruity flavours on the palette… eg… a nice cask golden ale to me tastes more biscuity and bready after a fruity IPA. But the other way around, the golden ale will be hoppier, crisper and more bitter. Maybe it’s just me, but it’s always been the case.
Idea for future vids - more visits to regional brewery’s. Please visit the southwest… we’re more than just Verdant.

Regional, especially where beers are not exported, at least not to the UK. It's nice to see what you think of our favs and how they stack up against others, and i want more like that, but for you to try beers you've perhaps not heard of or at least the majority of us living outside of a region dont know of, seems exciting on both sides. German/Belgian/Czech/lesser-known historical beer brewing areas. For UK beers, i think you could take any angle on any beers and I'm going to be happy.

I have also experienced - and I know this sounds silly - that beer has a place. For instance drinking a bitter norther German lager on the North Sea coast match made in heaven. Drinking it in the Mediterranean horrible. On the same hand, drinking a Mahou ***** after a hot day on a terrace in Madrid with some fatty tapas great! Same beer in norther Germany horrible. Even if it is imported / exported stuff and not license brewed.
A New Zealand blind tasting would be epic. We have such a massive range of styles being brewed here with NZ malts and hops, most of which probably never make it your way!
Hmm.. what about a Slavic type taste test? Don’t really hear much about them but I’m sure there’s plenty to choose from outside of Baltika!

I would love to see a blind tasting incorporating Untappd. 'Hype beers' could be a good topic for this. Might add a critical note to the scores some beers get (unfairly).

Here's an idea I'd love to see you do, a blind tasting of an imported beer Vs the brewed under license in this country counterpart. You can find imported staropramen in Lidl so I'm.hoping there are other examples like that which will make life easier. For you. Great video as always and keep up the good work 🎉

'We've made up our minds before we have a drink' it's so so true, also if one person says 'I'm getting a bit of green apple' or whatever, then you cannot get that thought out of your mind, it's very hard to be subjective, especially in company.
Blind tasting home brews would be awesome, but as many have said, maybe you could check beers from different countries. I understand getting beer overseas would be hard, but perhaps you guys could try some from across Europe. Lately I've been introduced to Estonian, Polish, Spanish and even French breweries which were a nice experience and would be a breath of fresh air seeing in a bigger channel since most will always stick around US, UK, DE and BE beers.
Crossing the ocean, I can definitely say: give a try to some Brazilian wild fermentation beers. The variety of fruits and flora being used in the fermentation has been giving some amazing results. Check breweries like Zalaz, Fermentaria Local, Trilha and Devaneio do Velhaco to name a few.

With higher inflation and higher age (dangit) I will pick up a macro now and again and more than likely that macro will be Miller Lite. Do ensure it is very cold.

Would love to see a regional beer blind taste test. There are load of small brewer's popping up regionally in the UK and doing a taste test of those would be cool to see. Also could get a bit of North vs South rivalry going !
I really enjoy these beer geek tastes episodes. I often compare notes you make with what I thought on untappd. Often you’ll beers Ive yet to try, rate it highly and will go and find it. Next time in the UK, I aim to try Love and Hate in a supermarket for example (after raiding the indie bottle shops of course).
Id like to see one where you try beers from around the world. Could be several episodes - one per continent and then a winner takes all episode.

2. A fun variant for blind hype beer tastings could be to pick 1 beer with a lot of hype, taste it against 3-4 beers in the style maybe a few established names and a few new comers. See how the hype beer holds up, and with a few less beers on the table have a little more time to try and dive into where the differences are coming from.

How about going back to A Year in Beer and doing blind taste tests from the styles featured each month? Beers grouped by seasonality rather than specific categories.

Reckon you got a dud with that Tooth and Claw beer, I remember it being a solid supermarket ipa and everyone else I know scored it decently. On my personal scale I wouldn't factor in aroma much at all, my logic being unless it's exceptional either way it has zero effect on my drinking experience.
Nice to see a few go viral, I think it's important to remember with those type of videos that draw in more of a casual audience are still very interesting to beer geeks, so they are well worth making.

Gluten free craft! I just went gluten free which seems to have closed off quite a few beers from me. So, I'm interested: what are the good ones that support a craft/indy brewery, where are they available *and* how on earth do they make it gf? Does it impact taste negatively?

I started drinking again. That means I got to the store and get six packs of craft beer. It gave me a consistent feel. My favorite is 86 beer Holland, no surprise. I was drinking Sapporo even when I didn't drink.
When I started drinking I started Hard. I was a Licensed Bartender and I made my own Vodka. When I decided to drink again I started with a bottle of Jack Daniels and played System Shock. fosho

You wanted suggestions: The Thai craft brewing right now is amazing - worth a trip. So is the Chinese version of it - all done by locals, ditto Japan - reach out if you want introductions - it's hard to meet the right people unless you are the know. Also maybe look at the Australian scene - good and bad - they make the world's best wine but...beer? VB? NTB? CUB? Tooheys? Reschs? Cam and Dave at Mountain Goat are good blokes to help you navigate the product out there.
As someone who travels to Japan regularly the Japanese craft brews are good but the value proposition isn't there for me. Give me a 720ml bottle of craft junmai sake for the equivalent of US $10. You spend more it gets even better.

Madri has never been brewed in Spain. It is an entirely fictional brand, made up by marketing execs who claim it is "inspired" by a brewery Heineken own of a similar name but no actual relation to the beer
I'm not sure that's correct. It's credited with being from La Sagra brewery in Spain. I live in Spain currently and La Sagra make a range of faux craft beers here. My suspicion is that the original run of Madri was imported until the demand was too high and then it was contract brewed in the UK. I could be wrong but I've seen it for sale in Carrefour over here
