  • Logic Formations SE was originally intended as background music to visuals exploring logical combining of patterns, lines and shape primitives. What eventuated became an experimental electronic music composition comprising several forms of sonic creation - Eurorack modular synthesis and sequencers, G-Stomper software rhythms and signal generation sources for the atmospheric tones. The music is therefore a hybrid of techniques, adding unique characteristics to the sectional development of the longer electronic music form. The music was clocked at 50 bpm with different sequences repeated in groups of three. The first main sequence consisted of a sequence created on the G-Stomper Rhythm software. This sequence is made from various rhythm patterns based upon the Roland TB 909, 707 and the 606 rhythm units. Also included are various percussive samples and inverted sinewave samples. The whole sequence has been effected by a thick reverb to some degree to give it a surreal quality. The sequence has a retro-techno feel to it with some elements sounding very electronic, others - very percussive. Another G-Stomper sequence that appears at the end has a more slower and lumbering feel - with slowed down percussive samples effect by thick reverberation. The result is a slower and pressurised rhythm sequence that is heavy thickened by the combination of sounds. "Liquid" rhythms were created by various Eurorack synthesizer modules. Fluid phase-shifting rhythms were created by a pulse feeding 2 x Blue Lantern Mr Fill Gates modules. The first module clocked the second module to create varied note spaces. Some sounds used 2 x Pittsburgh oscillators set to different frequencies and controlled by decay out from a Doepfer Quad Decay and a Doepfer Audio Divider. The pulse not only controlled the step sequencers, but also the switching of the Audio Divider. The outputs were processed by an Audio Damage frequency shifter and Doepfer Spring Reverb. For a final touch, the Behringer Tube Ultra Q vacuum tube parametric equaliser imparted tube warmth to the sound. Another sequence used the same twin Blue Lantern Mr Fill Gates sequences to clock an Antimatter Brain Seed CV recorder. 2 x Pittsburgh oscillators were controlled by the Brain Seed. The twin oscillators were FM-effected, and the Behringer Tube equaliser used to impart warmth. A frequency shifter was used to impart mild phasing effects. Metallic string plucks came from using the Doepfer Spring Reverb to its maximum capacity. Metallic percussive rhythms came from using the Blue Lantern Mini Shimmery drum module and twin Mr Fill Gates step sequencers to provide the timings. A stable background rhythm was used to knit the whole composition together - twin Mr Fill Gates modules controlling the pulse and sawtooth outputs from a MakeNoise DPO. Feeding the exponential FM inputs came from the same Blue Lantern Mr Fill Gates modules. The two DPO channels were cross-modulated by different amounts to impart buzzing/modulated tones. The Din Sync Sara filter provided high-pass filtering. The starting rhythm also used 2 x Mr Fill Gates modules with the sounds provided by a MakeNoise DPO, then frequency shifted and subtle spring reverb used. Signal generated tones were modulated for some of the background atmospherics and a Hammond Organ VST emulation chord used as a background. The concluding sound is a Doepfer Quadrature VCO FM-modulated and processed by a MakeNoise Echophon and frequency shifter. The visuals are electronic texture weaves created by logical combination and blending - addition, subtraction and the Exclusive OR (XOR) function. The visuals are complex simulations of what might the EMS Spectron Video Synthesizer could have produced by complex mixing and superimposition/blending techniques used in conjunction with logically-created patterns. The result is a very complex interaction of sound and image, mathematical and psychedelic interactions.

Very interesting clip !! Thanks a lot for using and mentioning G-Stomper
