thanks Michael for a great dig into, Scott was a teacher at GIT and I was a student... the guy is insane good. Dog Party awesome, THEN Tribal Tech Face First ! -caveat: he's always very critical of his own gear, and would sell tons of guitars while I was there, but really he got some amazing tones while playing live there... with everything !... at GIT he played while in class through Peavey solid state amps with a TS-9 ... sounded amazing.... then during concerts through Ts-808 through 2x 30th Anniv Marshalls as power amps forgot the preamps... amazing. the guy HAS the IT factor.
I've got SO MANY of my friends into the blues by recommending the Tore Down House albu. One of my favorites of all time
AMAZING tune, tone and player. Thanks again Michael!
I love the "fine scotch" analogy. It's perfect.
And, John is the finest guitar maker in America.
Super post, thanks Michael!
Very cool vid Michael and great recommendations. They're a few of my all time favorites of Scott's.. Tribal Tech blew my mind back in the day, still does. Good to know abut his IR!
Great sounds man. My fav Scott Henderson blues tone!
Hell yeah! That tone changed my life forever 10 years ago. Possibly my favorite strat tone ever.
Hell yeah! this is what I needed for my Friday. I miss the old school rack talk.
I own one of his old Bogner 410s w Kendrick’s, so so good and Scott mojo straight from the source
Killer video Michael! Wow.. thanks for the deep dive, the tone is righteous!! (and looks like I have to add the Jan Ray & Green Rhino to my collection) 🤘
Oh wow man! Now I gotta try my Jan Ray on zero gain. I’ve never even thought of doing that lol. Great vid Michael!
It's really great in low gain, stacks with others nicely and is a nice little lift-y boost, and is still fat
I first heard Scott with Chick Corea many years ago when I was a kid in jazz camp. I bought Tribal Tech Face First and Illicit sight unseen. I was blown away with Scott’s tone and chops. I’d say jumping into the Tribal Tech stuff from that era is the best. It’s dangerous playing but not as indulgent as the later stuff. Granted, I love every era, but it was a fantastic entry point.
I was about to sell my Green RINO in a small pedal purge.....but now I think I’ll keep! It sounded KILLER with that Suhr! Great video! 👍
Scott is amazing - though as you say, perhaps requiring some time to become accustomed to for some. That said, I find "Vibe Station" to be very accessible as well. Thanks for this great video Michael!
Wow dude! "rebuilding tone" rubricue comes back!!!
Awesome content! 🤘
His best tone was on his first instructional video, when he turned off the chorus and crazy effects and it was just a clean overdrive... That was a killer tone.
I come here for the giving Scotch to kids comments 😂😂
Always enjoy your videos. Hilarious when you said this about giving scotch to a kid. I understood and know you weren’t advocating for this. But it was hilarious. 😂😂
Haha! That didn’t even occur to me that it could mean an 8 year old! Hahah 🤣😂🤣
These days a 21 year old is a kid to me.
@@BigHairyGuitars yeah I hear you. I do sound at a club on the weekends and I’m always thinking we have underage drinkers cause 25 year olds look like babies.
I also think we know a few of the same people in the NY area. I believe I saw you in a FB of a friend of mine. I lived in NyC for 11 years. Had worked at Clinton Recording Studios at 46th and 10th Ave in Hells Kitchen. Gone now. Closed in 2010.
I’ve probably played DOLEMITE at least 500 times over the years… perhaps even 1,000 times! Killer song!
Well to the bone is crazy stuff!
So much harder then it sounds
Stellar work Sir - I just want to repeat an earlier request- please get the camera angle sorted so we can see exactly what your hands are doing - your playing and tone houndary ( its a word 😂) - just 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Great content.. please more...
Damn! was thinking of selling off my old Suhr Scott Henderson HSH Model in pepto pink, but this video has me wanting to keep it!
Oh hell yes
Seems we like the same Stuff... Scott and Dan (Huff) are in my top 5 of all time and will always be. And the the Scotch analogy... man... You should see my collection ;) AND we have also almost the same amount of subs. You lead by about a 1000 ;) And that KOA Suhr. Man!!! Awesome. If you ever come to Frankfurt Germany, come over for a nice Scotch tasting and guitar stories.
yeah, saw Scott back in march in Hamburg ! AMAZING although the club sound wasnt that great. Scott played his ass off joked around and his tone was amazing.
Another Great Video Michael. what are the specs of that lovely Suhr - Reb Beach Model with Passive pickups?
I don't think it's technically a Reb model. I might end up just going back to EMG's they're fun :)
bro you got a do Acacia off his new album!!!
Is that a Shanks ODS1 ( the balls) ???
Great video Michael. Did you notice a tonal difference between the classic RC booster and the double one? I love my old one- but was curious about the newer one. Best
Thanks! Yes. There was a huge difference between the 2. I thought. I LOVE the RC, 2 would be better! But the double was sort of its own thing. It didn't have the always on, always better, super sweetness thing that the single RC Booster has (to my ear).
@@BigHairyGuitars I heard the old ones are better - but you always hear that. BUt you just confirmed it. thanks
Sounds great as always!!! Just curious what audio interface you use, I have a PreSonus and thought about upgrading
I have a Lynx Aurora (n). It's strictly a converter, and I have some API preamps, and other stuff. I needed a lot of I/o for work. If I didn't I would go with something much less expensive. I use RME, UA, both great. There's lots of great options.
@@BigHairyGuitars thanks for the info, I was thinking of the UA Apollo Twin, but also just seen the Volt
Definite Mahavishnu vibes to the head
Interesting how it didn't really come together until you got the "right" IR in there. 🤔
From videos I have seen online,he always maxi's out the volume on pedals!
Finally seeing rb suhr again! Damn that guitar sound good! Imo i think it sound stratier than the classic s. I suspect its the bridge. The gotoh 2 post trem sound a bit stiff than 1996t
There’s something about the Suhr where the low E sounds a bit like a flat wound. I have to take it to a master to see if they can sort it out.
@@BigHairyGuitars u mean this particular one?
@@BigHairyGuitars oh i can hear it. Just noticed
I covet your Reb guitar …❤
Is that the pre-amp the guys from School of Fish used?
No, that was the Demeter TGP-3 ua-cam.com/video/46AMIZRKSl0/v-deo.html
@@BigHairyGuitars I own Scott's CAA 3+ SE...it's been modded for more mids on the clean channel and a hotter crunch channel, has as much gain on crunch as it does on channel 3 but not as compressed...KILLER TONE!
@@youscreamiscream 😎😀WOW! That's awesome!!!
Great tone and video. I think he used the TS to boost the vodoo lab od.
Thanks! Voodoo Lab OD pedal???? What is that?
Voodoo 1 Roger Mayer maybe?
@@BigHairyGuitars my bad, voodo 1. but there is a voodoo lab od. I allways thought it was the same pedal but no.
@@konradpajek9804 yeah! but there is a vodoo la od too! i think scott used the vodoo 1
@@konradpajek9804 AHH! Probably what he means. It's definilty not sounding like the Voodoo-1. I'll do a vid on that soon. That's much more soft and fuzzy.
Niiice! I also love his tone from the early Tribal Tech stuff with the Charvel.
Great tones and awesome Suhr! Floyd or Gotoh 1996?
I THINK a Floyd... I have to dig it out and check. 🤔
@@BigHairyGuitars Looks like a Gotoh 1996.
@@bonerhed So, what's the scoop on that. Are the Gotoh's poop? Should I replace it with a Floyd?
I like anybody who likes Scott Henderson 😎
🤘😎🤘
“My wife says to add more gain.” We see why you married her.
Somewhat ironic that a screamer can’t be found.
Green Rhino is based on the screamer. And I assume the Maxon, while different, can cop the same sounds just with more gain and bass.
MORE RACK VIDS!
Suhr reb Beach ❤😊🎉🎉🎉🫶🎸👑
Nice, buuuuut - hey man, you played the same blues lick all over the place!
I disagree. I believe you should start with the Tribal Tech albums because it’s more palatable than the blues albums…those get crazy.
Tory Slusher is the best guitarist in the world. Copy her tone.
From what I hear, she is one of those people that her tone is coming 99% from how she plays. The tone itself probably wouldn't work for someone that doesn't play like her. She's pretty unique.
Unique is correct. That is the goal.
I gotta warn you about Tory. She is so good, you might just quit music, and sell all your gear.
Had the Chance to see him life in Germany, Münster some years ago. He played his wet/dry setup in a small Club (JazzClub Münster)
Before the gig he sat there on the floor of the stage and changed his strings by hisself.
I asked him to take a picture with me.
He said yes and was very kind
Great Guitarist and human beeing
I will remember that gig my life
Dude! Awesome selections. His tone and phrasing is insane on both albums.
