- 🦆 In this video we place duck breeding baskets for the new season. 🦆 Of course made from willows from Dutch soil. By placing the ducks "villas" we offer a sheltered nest. It deters predators from raiding the nest and eating the mother duck. We have been installing them for many years and now have a success rate between 75% and 80%.
My tips for posting:
1) To be installed from February (depending on the weather)
2) Fill the duck baskets with 2 to 3 hands of straw, hay, reeds, etc.
3) Select water where you often see the ducks
4) Find a sheltered/quiet place
5) Place 4 stakes crosswise in the water to place the basket on top. Willow lasts a long time (will spread), bamboo (better with beavers), or make a nice construction yourself.
6) Place the basket above the water, taking into account the rise of the water (40-60cm)
7) Place the duck basket with the opening facing the open water
8) The opening of the duck basket facing east (E, N/E, N - due to storm and rain from S/W)
9) slightly overhanging at the back so that the eggs do not roll out
10) bring them indoors, preferably at the end of summer, then the duck basket will last longer
Finally, shoot a lot of predators! 🦊🐀

Hi Musher, thank you! We got to many predators 😂 but marter, fox, rats, crows, domestic cats are also an issue. When we got young ducks, also the heron and pike. It was fun putting them up, not very warm though, but can;t complain with your temp. 😉 have a nice weekend

Dankjewel! Ik maak ze nog altijd hoor 😉 Dit zijn afgesloten putten, dus geen gedoe met snoek. Maar rat is wel een dingetje... zouden mensen voor aangenomen moeten worden om aan te pakken 😂

Hi Oliver, thanks! Glad you liked, although there is no gun involved 😂 It's typical Dutch, make them myself, like you probably saw on insta. In Dutch it's called a eendenbroedkorf. Depending in what area you are in Holland, there are different types. I make this model. Have a nice weekend

Waren al de manden gebruikt?
Hoi Rick, leuk dat je er naar vraagt. Heb vrijdag een video op instagram gezet, holtan.media met de resultaten. 17 gecontroleerd, 15 bezet. Dat is ons beste resultaat tot nu toe. Fijne zondag gewenst
Zijn er niet al veel enden uitgekomen
Korven beginnen wij te zetten vanaf februari, zo ook deze lijn. Pullen hebben insecten nodig, als ze te vroeg uitkomen gaan er veel verloren en komt er een tweede legsel. We hebben zelfs eieren gehad in juli.
