I loved this video…. She really is just having a blast stoking that thing. Now I wouldn’t pack mine like that, but I guess it illustrates a point that the stove will eat thru wood like a hot knife thru butter! My feeling is that many folks will do the same…. Kudus to you for just having a blast!

If I cleared a forest and wanted to burn it as fast as possible then this would be the tool.
No you would just ask this lady to burn it. She's feeding an amount of wood and creating a flame size that is ridiculous and unnecessary for relaxing around a fire. The level of intelligence is demonstrated by throwing a flammable liquid on the fire.
Yep I used a Yukon yesterday to get rid of all the tumbleweeds on my property. No muss no fuss.

thanks for doing this video. I do believe this is the best example of how to utilize the solo stove regardless of size but especially for the Yukon size that I have seen on UA-cam video. And yes I definitely love The encore at the end of the video, lol.

I have the same one. Works great. Puts off more heat, has great air flow. You can have a small fire or load it up. Burns thoroughly

I am in the market for one of these fire pits. But I literally just watched you burn a good nights worth of wood in a normal pit in 3 hours.
it's not required that you use that much wood. I was trying to show if you are a pyromaniac that's how much wood you need and how long it lasts.

I wanted to dislike this video so many times, but could never bring myself to actually do it. After all I kept watching for absolutely no reason.

I’ve been using old washer drums for over 30 years.
20$ each at local appliance store.
Not only can you “feel the heat” from them, you can extinguish whenever you want.
I think this Solo thing is clever, but impractical.

In 1 video you talk about conserving resources an in another your burning resources like there's no tmrw. Just some advice from an old Indian guy I met. He said Indian build small fire sit close. White man build big fire stand way the heck back.
Nice! I’m thinking of getting this to burn wood scrap and sawdust from my woodworking hobby.
They are really great stoves, you may want to try to compress the sawdust like fire starting bricks, or sprinkle it on when the fire is going, otherwise it may just fall through the bottom grate and into the ash pan.
A burn barrel with good lower venting would be cheaper and better if you are just looking for a way to get rid of wood scraps
Seems efficiently inefficient. Who wants to burn that much wood over just 3 hours? I’d be much more interested in understanding the heating properties with respect to wood volume than how quickly I can torch an entire tree....
It does burn quite a bit and a lot of the heat is not felt to the sides. Seems better for standing up. But very low smoke.
@@wiredforstereo I burn 8-10 pieces of quarter split wood in 3 hours. You don't need a 4-5 foot flame. My family members feel plenty of heat radiating from the sides so I'm not sure if you are speaking from actual experience or speculating.
This might be a stupid question, but can you use this as a grill too? Boil water and such?
You can, its just a little tricky, you either need a grill grate or a tripod hanger, it does get hot though! The smaller ones are a bit better for cooking.

In realistic usage wood lasts far longer than this. I’ve found the size and amount of wood she’s using will last hours, not minutes. That being said, I’m not trying to get the fire to touch the moon.

The heat goes straight up. It's a nice stove, but it doesn't put out heat like a steel fire pit with vented holes, I prefer all around heat if I'm going to be outside
You can't be speaking from experience. My stove radiates plenty of heat.
If you behave properly, not like this lady, and just use about 10 pieces of split wood, you will get a borderline smokeless fire pit that radiates a great amount of heat. No one has to take showers afterwards because the smoke doesn’t stink everyone’s clothes.

Pretty much the exact opposite of the official solo stove tips & tricks videos for how to use one of these.

thing seems like a $600 burn pit! all that wood burned in only 3 hours! its gonna be regular fires for me… that much wood would last me all night
Do you have it raised on blocks for any particular reason?
The mats below the stove are rubber, I wasn't sure how hot the bottom would get so I added them just in case, it also makes it easier to pick up for the occasional clean out. The blocks aren't really required.

@@steve-rs6vk No...it's not. There are vent holes on the inside of the tub. the wood has to stay below those holes. That's how it is able to burn hotter and stay relatively smokeless. If you're just going to fill it like a bucket....then buy a bucket.

I wish Solo Stove would come in a powder coated black or something other than stainless. It turns to $Hi7 after the first burn. Looks like someone used it as a toilet after diarrhea.

I got a stainless dryer drum from a laundromat type dryer and took the plate with all the holes out and made a higher air flow grate type thing to replace the plate with all the holes. I then put it on my dire pit stand base thing and put a powerful floor fan that I took the little pipe base off with the two hand nuts. With that air forced into it like I have got, the whole thing glows red hot so intense at times I swear we can see through the metal, It is bad ass and I bet you could put a fan under that thing and get some great action too. You can melt metal and glass with the high temps and you can burn even more wood and crap even faster than what you are now. I even made a top that is dome shaped and has a stove pipe about 3 feet long in the middle. That is useful too for keeping more heat inside and for keeping the insane fire under control and not getting the fire dept up mu ass lol... If I crank it up with my top on it, it looks like a giant blow torch the way the clean hot directed flame shoots out of the pipe..
There is really no way to supercharge this thing without cutting a hole in the bottom, and even then you'll lose most of it out the intake holes.

Check around locally, we have a dump by us that accepts natural materials and will let you take it for free. The smaller sizes are better if you are restricted on your wood supply. They also have some that can burn wood pellets you can buy at your local hardwear store.
That's not how you load these fire pits. It's a TLUD design.

She seems to be quite ignorant about secondary burning, correct height of wood in the stove for secondary burning, proper heat generation, avoidance of smoke and soot, etc.,. The only thing she is interested seems like burning everything up fast !! - Which of course she does maniacally!! A few like her around, our forests would be gone soon!! 😀😀😀

I haven't tried to cook on the Yukon yet, as I don't have a grill grate that would fit it, or a tripod grill big enough.
I have cooked a lot on the Bonfire, Ranger, and Campfire, I recommend using charcoal in these for a nice even heat to cook on. If you don't have charcoal use a cast iron pan to keep the heat consistent.
Solo Stove makes models and accessories for grilling.
That's too much work... when do you have time to sit down and enjoy the fire🔥
There's plenty of time if you aren't feeding it wood like you're burning crime scene evidence. It's also nicer to sit around a fire with less than a 5 foot flame. This person is an idiot.
The Yukon is way too big for most people. If you're buying fiirewood in bundles from the store the cost will add up quickly. The Bonfire fits most size firewood horizontally while the Ranger will require you to cut even average size firewood in half just to fit. For the patio the Bonfire is perfect when having people sit around. When I need some fire therapy I just use the Campfire model to gaze at. The Yukon makes a beautiful fire though

Interesting there seems to be quite a bit of smoke coming from the fire, even when you have the wood below the holes. You seem to have secondary burn but still a good amount of smoke. Wet wood?
if wood is above the rim of the solo stove it will smoke like that.
I have a Solo Stove Bonfire. Even burning dry pinon wood kept well below the air holes it'll smoke. But it does seem to do a good job of sending the smoke straight up. It definitely chews through wood, but makes for a satisfying fire adding less wood at a much slower burn rate.
It can be overfueled. With too much fuel, you'll get soot. It's not smoke exactly, not the blue white stuff that is real smoke, it's more soot, like diesel smoke. All the light gases are burning off leaving the carbon behind. As with any burning machine, if you have more fuel than air, you'll get smoke. But in this case it is not smoke from cool burning. It has a distinctive smell, I have smelled it with my Solo camp stove also.
