Thank you. My last build was red but I wan't something different. Some of the people that have gotten these setups from me have gotten so many colors. I love seeing people's takes on my desigins.
Using this video I made my own cantilever front suspension with an old plastic plant pot I cut up and some screws. Obviously it's not as good, but it does the job.
That is just awesome, Alberto!! I can't wait to start building mine. A quick note for the viewers: A 3x18mm Machine screw, with 2.5mm Allen Head is readily available through Associated, and nearly any Hobby Shop. AND, those Brass sleeves ARE hard to find, unless you collect Tamiya hardware bags on EvilBay, like I do.... BUT, are still manufactured and sold by CRP, available at most Hobby Shops, or on EvilBay! QUESTION for you, Alberto. .... Fortunately, I bought a stock of those shock ends from AmPro(thanks for making those!). What I'm not clear on, is what *length* of shock am I going to need?? I've got two, from a 1/18th Scale Losi. I believe that they are 75mm, eyelet to eyelet. Will that work? I do know that they need to be very soft. These are... In fact, they're a little softer than the stock "Bic Pen springs"! The only thing I haven't got yet, is 3mm washers. I do have a package of 100 of them, coming from China, on a VERY slow boat!!! However, it was only $3.15 for 100. 😀 ~ Carmine
Yeah I also collect parts bags. As for the shock ends, you need the 16.75 units if you are using 75mm shocks. 80mm are better but start with the 16.75's. The 22.75 units I really don't like to use as they are really long. Man I need to get some of those washers! I am running out.
..... Could I do something sacreligious - like move the rear mount FORWARD about 5mm?? 😲 I don't want to sacrifice any travel, and these shocks are *SOFT* !! Thanks for the advice! I'm pretty sure that I bought 16.75. I'll check. ..... and yeah, that's why I just got a package of 100 washers!! 👍 Those sucker get eaten FAST! I got black, so they won't stick out from a distance. Crap! Just realized that I also need 4mm! 😠😠
Yeah let me know what you ordered. You could move the base forward but I wouldn't. Mainly because it could adversely affect the geometry in a way that I do not know. If you didn't get the correct ones, let me know.
AMPRO Engineering OOOOOH! You just helped me find something for my oldest friend! Carm, you got TWO surprises coming. Thank you Sir! I'm just starting to go through your videos. You've got a very creative mind, just like my friend, Carmine. You both have the same, upper crust, educated and refined voices. Consider that a gift! Murph
Have you thought about designing a cantilever front shock setup for the Frog? Maybe even a mono shock setup that would allow both front and rear (one shock per side) to operate with one shock? It would be similar to the Hot Shot mono shock one front, one back except it would be one shock right side and one shock left side. Just thought it would go well with the lay flat theme of the stock Frog rear shocks to have lay flat front ones...
I did but it took up too much room under the body and the chassis was a pain to work with on the outside. This is why I made the micro tower set up for it. That was clean and works perfect.
@@AMPROEngineering What about converting the stock friction spring tubes in the body to a mono damper of some kind? You'd have to drill out the tube barriers separating the two tubes so that you'd have one tunnel. But, after that can you envision any way to turn that tunnel into a mono damper with maybe an internal spring? I know it's a reach...
I wanted to say something about shapeways. The first time I ordered from them It said it would take a very long time for parts to be made and delivered and at first I thought “well maybe I can just make this myself”. Instead I went ahead and ordered and to my surprise it didn’t take anywhere near as long as they projected. In fact nothing I’ve ordered from them has taken as long as they say. I know now days with stuff like amazon primes 2 day shipping people want instant gratification. Maybe if you’re a little impatient and don’t want to wait for something to be produced and shipped you may find yourself apprehensive about ordering something from them. If my experience is anything to go by, the wait isn’t nearly as bad as they would lead you to believe. However, your mileage may differ.
It seems dependent on time of year. Order after thanksgiving to xmas, you are looking at 6 weeks. The rest of the year. 2-3 weeks easy, sometimes faster.
@@AMPROEngineering I thought it might need some modifications. Would you say the cantilever setup is just for cosmetics? Or does it offer slightly more performance than the double Wishbone?
Over stock? Wow...that hard to quantify but I say the stock front end is like a ham sandwich. Gets the job done if you are hungry. This version is filet mignon. Basically it changes everything about how the front of this car behaves. The car no longer handles like a stock hornet. You can see several driving videos I have with this set up.
@@AMPROEngineering Figured it out. I had the arms crossed. Front suspension works awesome! I want to do the rear now. I also installed the roll cage using your rear shock mount and the rear body posts broke on the first rollover! I will need to purchase the parts necessary for rear suspension upgrade. Do I need a certain rear shock mount? It seems you sell several and in your rear suspension video, you dont make it clear which to use. Thanks!
I cannot find a 4.8 ball stud with a 4mm long m3 thread. I have searched the entire internet. I am using all the expletives even. Also no seller anywhere gives a thread pitch and a length sometimes one or the other never both. Could you link a product you believe would work? Please no chineese sellers. This is driving me crazy that’s all I need to find to do this now.
Awesome Build looks beautiful purple defiantly works and pops out for that RC

Thats ok man, as long as it works but I wanna see this!
I can't wait to see this finished. So unique!
Me too...I just want this project done.
Awesome. I have a grasshopper with some modifications but now I need to buy a hornet.
Oh cool. I love the Hornet...um...clearly...haha!
@@AMPROEngineering I cannot find the super fly 1.0 on shapeway.i cannot find the roll cage or the body parts.
All the parts are in the Hornet section here. There is a 1.0 and a 2.0 but the 1.0 body is way simpler and cheaper. They share the cage.
@@AMPROEngineering cheers.i am dumb.i was looking at the super fly bit
really cool hornet
Thanks Brian
Good installation. Clever design.
Thank you! SuperFly 1 has been awesome with these.

Just buy a chassis and a trans. That's all you will need!

Does this also work with the grasshopper? This is a sick suspension setup!
Yes but it will require modification to the stock body
@@AMPROEngineering as in? Just cutting for fitment? Or full on fabrication?
cool! what color is the body going to be on this with all the fancy purple parts?
I just don't know yet...It is bothering me that I have no design yet
I hear ya! =)
Another awesome video :-)
Glad you like it!
Now, would the cantilever suspension fit with a grasshopper body?
it will require some mods to the shell. I have seen it a couple times.

Does the suspension fit on the grasshopper?
With a lot of cutting and mods to the stock body. I have seen a few with it.
How much of an improvement did it feel like over stock set up? I dislike bouncing.

Sold.
Can you still use the original shock setup
Can you clarify? You can use the stock front end if that is what you are talking about.
It looks like when I connect the servor steering arms, that they will hit the bottom of the cantilever. Anyone can confirm this?
They shouldnt. Have you moved the servo? Is the arm in the right spot? Can you email me images? amproengineering@gmail.com

All m3 shank ball studs have a 4.8mm ball stud. I use Tamiya ones but as long as you get a ball stud with a matching ball cup, you are fine.
I’m a stooge. Just had to search for “m3 ball stud” be careful scrolling through images with safe search turned off though.
