The dumb ass starts asking Jimmy G to play outside of himself. The chiefs defenders were visibly frustrated they couldn't stop the run that SB. Mahomes played terrible that SB too.
Yup. Set Purdy up to fail. Letting Chris Jones wreck the play over and over with no adjustments. Passed more than ran , that alone sealed the deal. If he had called 7 more run plays. 49ers win by 7 in regulation. Kyle sucks.
Saying they didn't run the ball in the second half last night is a bit of revisionist history. In the first half they ran the ball about 40% of the time and then in the second half + OT they ran about 40% of the time. For some reason though 2 straight series throwing it 3 times in a row is inexcusable when it doesn't work and they punt, but multiple stretches of 3+ passes in first half series isn't a problem at all because they didn't directly lead to punts...
@nbriggs133 8 of CMC touches was in over time. You was up 10 when you came out throwing the ball and putting your young quarterback on 3rd and 10+ repeatedly. Instead of 3rd and 4 etc.....
@@smoove2432 Not my qb, I'm a Chief's fan through and through. I just don't like it when people complain about the play sequencing when it doesn't work, but never seem to mention very similar play sequencing when it is working. Like if the throwing was the problem then say they were throwing too much all game long. Like you mention putting your qb behind at 3rd and 10 repeatedly, but the first 3 and out had one incompletion and then a false start putting them behind and the second series was 2 short passes or screens to start off with which is basically just the modern run game. And the third series (which you don't mention) started off with a McCaffrey run for no gain and they were in the exact same problem.
The difference between Kyle Shanahan and great coaches like Andy Reid in the Superbowl is having the smarts and the guts to make in game adjustments. He's constructed an amazing team in San Fran but sometimes he needs to lift his head out of that playsheet and watch the results of his calls, the lack of McCaffery in the third quarter was so glaring to everyone watching the game so why wasn't Kyle finding a way to scheme him open? Also the fact that he didn't even use a time out in the redzone in overtime to run through the critical, game on the line play with Purdy is mind blowing to me. The Niners post game comments confirming their confusion of the OT rules is super damning really, Chiefs players had two meetings on the OT rules this week alone.
Yep, his biggest issue is he trusts his own playcalling and decisions over the results that he’s been given on the field. It leads to a disconnect between players- coaches and it’s why he always seems to fold in high pressure moments And I’m not sure how you fix that. Maybe he needs to give up playcalling and focus on the other stuff. It’s not like he couldn’t overrule a bad call
He did the same thing in three super bowls (falcons, sf,sf) he throws the lead away. With all the momentum he abandons the run. Which tires out his defense and keeps the other team in the game. Three times now.
The part that bugs me the most is for a genius run designer, in all three games every one of the critical third down late that could have iced the game was a pass incompletion.
CMac's fumble in the first quarter reminded me of the high snap to Peyton Manning in the first snap of the Broncos vs Seahawks Superbowl. It was a bad omen. Then, when Greenlaw gets injured running onto the field it seemed to confirm that it wasn't the Niners night. Despite those things, the Niners had every chance to win but they just couldn't grab victory from the jaws of defeat.
3rd quarter will forever be haunting. Purdy looked great when we ran the ball. Then went 4/11 in the 3rd when we ran the ball once. Defense knew what was coming and pinned their ears back and pressured him every single play
No shit. When you play one-dimension that's gonna happens? Defense will adjust. Why you think the Chiefs kept running the ball even if they didn't make a difference.
@@legitdragon6202 Great QB's can't make plays when they have pressure in their face on every throw. And regardless of that, Purdy still had the best game of every QB the Chiefs faced in this postseason, which includes Tua, Allen, and Lamar. Everyone just thinks Purdy isn't good because he isn't as gifted as Mahomes or as talented as Allen or Lamar.
Imo the issue with Shanahan and some of these other young "offensive geniuses " is that they seem to be unable to make the second half and in game adjustments. Idk if its because they're too confident in their scheme and too prideful to adjust or if they're just incapable of adjusting.
The issue isn’t the players, it’s Kyle. Kyle needs to change his perspective of system construction and build around the abilities of his players like Reid. Reid took the same Chiefs roster that went 2-14 in 2012 added Alex Smith, kept the rest of the roster and took the Chiefs to 11-5 in 2013.
You know what Andy Reid also did. When he was the Eagles coach he kept getting close over and over again……and failed. Had a lead in the Super Bowl……and failed. Reminds me of ummmmm……what’s his name again…..oh yea. Kyle Shanahan!!! The point is. You don’t just give up and fire a VERY good coach who keeps getting you close but can’t get the ring. You hang in there and give him a chance to make the adjustments and get better. Andy Reid didn’t get that much better as a coach. NO. He got Patrick Mahomes. He couldn’t win with Donovan McNabb or Alex Smith
@@revealingtruth3329 never said anything about firing Kyle. People really should look at the comparison between Andy and Kyle. It has only been “recently” that Reid’s had post-season success. Before that he was something like 10-14.
its a cool quote but john elway got one of the worst QB performance in the SB in a winning fashion. as a pack fan, elway was pretty bad. i dont even think he completed a pass to a wide receiver the whole game. it was all about terrell davis. of course he bounced back the next year against the falcons. but the falcons was not deserving to go to the sb, a bit like the chargers.
@@MightyNinermahommes changed andy reids narrative. So its actually on Purdy😅. Andy still does questionable things, even in this game he refused to run 4 yards away from the endzone. Luckily his quarterback is insanely clutch

They averaged 3.5 YPC on runs not by Brock Purdy. It's not like they were gashing the Chiefs all game long. Spags successfully scared them away from it.
@LucasSChiefsLightning I know that but you have to stick with it because there were a couple of runs that almost broke and we know that 49ers have at least one big run in a game when it looks like they not having success.
@@shawnsockwell9181 Abandoning the run has been a common theme against the Chiefs. Every team (with a great running game) has gone away from it versus the Chiefs in recent years; 2019 Titans and 49ers, plus the Bills, Ravens, and 49ers in 2023. You think there's a reason for that?
@LucasSChiefsLightning that opening loss to Detroit, they didn't abandon it because that coach knew what it took to beat them, and he stuck to his guns. Most teams try to match qb play to Patrick to prove that they're a qb can do the same thing as Patrick, but that's not the case. CMC finished with over 80 yards and barely used Mitchell. Just think if Shannahan had chosen to run more in the 3rd quarter, the outcome might have been different. The chiefs know teams will give up on the run within 3 quarters of its not working. I tell you it is better to cover than having to keep coming up and making tackles as a corner, played right into their hands.
I think you can say the 9ers is cursed, but I also think that it is a fair play if the people in charge of the team made conscious decision to ignore obvious weaknesses and those weaknesses come back to bite them in the behind. The most obvious weaknesses that Lynch/Shannahan ignored has been the poor O-line. They didn't draft anyone to help with the O-line other than trading for Trent Williams. All the QB injuries in the last 6 years were partly due to that as well.
@@HendersonHinchfinch under John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan? Why are you talking about ancient history? He's talking about the modern team right now under Lynch/Shanahan and the weaknesses they've ignored.

Shanahan has NEVER fixed special teams in his 7 years in SF nor has he ever fixed the o line, nor does his team have really good discipline, that falls on Kyle.
No way on Cousins. You think Cousins would have faired better against this KC defense? Would have been worse. Cousins is a statue. At least Purdy has descent enough athleticism to get out of the pocket & make plays. Not even MVP Lamar (with this years best defense) made enough plays to beat KC. What Purdy did this year wasn’t the same as Jimmy G. Jimmy G in 2019 had the best defense in the league and relied solely on the run game in the playoffs. Purdy did it with a good defensive that had holes, a great running attack and distributing the ball to his play makers while making the necessary plays to win consistently. You just need to tip you cap to KC & the best QB on the planet in Mahomes. It is what it is
You're are 100% correct. Cousins is a mediocre QB at best. If he didn't have Jefferson and this year Addison to make him look good no one would even think about him to come to the 49ers. They even made the Interception machine Mullens look good.
So when a crazy play like the Jennings touchdown works out, it's "coaching" but when you start the 2nd half with not one, not two, but three 3-and-outs where you make just the one rush attempt (on the first play of the third drive) even though you were making good yards with your running game, with 7 of those 9 plays being from the shotgun, that's "the players let you down"?? Chris is making excuses for his friend.
MCAFREY HAD 15 CARRIES IN REGULATION THATS CRIMINAL! AND WHY DO WE KEEP COMPARING PURDY IN HIS FIRST FULL SEASON TO THE TOP QBs IN THE LEAGUE THAT WILL ONE DAY WEAR A GOLD JACKET🫠
I just don’t know how the 49ers get better, great defense, an embarrassment of riches on offense, you got edged out on a single pass from Mahomes. Teams need to start focusing on being better in those moments instead of losing faith in what got there. One or two better defensive schemes and Kyle has two or 3 SuperBowls. Sometimes it’s just the at close. Being that close 3/3 and losing is WILD
How can you be better with stupid mistakes? Like the punt where McCloud try to pick up and run instead of recovering the fumble? How can you be better when Moody kick the ball low when he should have kicked it high after the TD? There is no reason to kick it low unless you're doing a 50 yarder or something to give the ball a better trajectory? How can you be better in terms of not getting Greenlaw injured? You can't. How can you be better in terms of not getting Deebo and Kittle injured? You can't. These are just bad luck you can't control. And YES, in ANY SPORTS sometimes, the winning team depends on some luck to win games. Even right down to the officials of the game. He may be a Chiefs fan and didn't want to call holding in a crucial play for example. Every thing have to line up correctly for a team to have success.
@@reptilexcq2 my only critique is that Shanahan in hindsight should have elected to not receive. The 2nd team is at an advantage if they know what they need because instead of kicking a field goal on a 3rd and short you get an extra play on 4th if you know you need to get a 1st for a touchdown so I think the new rules and this event will make coaches think diffrerntly in overtime. And obviously 49er players were confused on that final play they thought it was the end of the game instead of the start of the second quarter had the they ran the clock out. A lot of them even admitted after the game they didn’t realize the new rules meant there wasn’t 8 seconds left in the game but 36 minutes and 8 seconds. That was shameful.
@@alexanderdumas- At the time of watching the game, I didn't question when the 49ers decided to have the ball first in OT. But now that I thought about, yes you're right, there is a huge advantage when you know what to expect. If you know your opponent scored a TD or a field goal, you know what to expect and change the play call accordingly as far as how aggressive or not. But giving how great the 49ers defense is throughout the game, he probably think it'll be hard for KS to score a TD. Never the less, you don't take that chances. 3pts is not going to do it against Mahome. And without Greenlaw, it's a disaster because the Chiefs are taking advantage of his backup.

@@alexanderdumas- I think the mistake was accepting ball possession first in OT rather than defer to KS. If you go 2nd, you can kind of watch and expect what you need whether you need 3pt or 7pt to tie or win and you can play with all the 4 down to get the score you need. To me, that was a mistake by Kyle Shanahan. And also, if you let KS go 2nd, they don't want to just score and tied with a 3 also because they know when 49ers get the ball back, they can win it with just a 3pt field goal. SO, winning the coin toss and not taking advantage of it is a HUGE mistake imo.

Purdy's arm is just not good enough. I hate his elongated wind-up. There's a hitch in his wind-up just like in Michael Penix Jr's. Ball takes too long to get out of there and to the WR if Purdy doesn't throw it early because of his average-at-best arm.

Do not think Kirk Cousins is the answer. He's more the question. The Niners should ride or die with Brock Purdy. IMO they'll eventually ride with him, unless Patrick Mahomes is on the other sideline in the Super Bowl.
Kyle Shanahan is Philly version of Andy Reid, top notch HC, great offensive mind but always finds a way to overthink the big games. Hopefully he can figure it out eventually like Reid did, even though having Mahomes makes life way easier.
The biggest concern is the salary cap honestly. That reduces the chances big time of repeating returns to the Super Bowl. Coach and Coordinators change. Keep the core which has youth. Draft some hogs for the OLine, grab another OLB and please for the love of football find a shutdown corner. We haven’t had a shutdown corner since Deion. Give the defense options against the running QB!!!! PLEASE!!
Purdy made some amazing plays, you cant even being to say the niners lost because of Purdy. He also did not turn over the ball. If niners get a better O line (right side) you will elevate Purdy to even a higher level. Purdy is also on a rookie deal and will allow the niners to retain there team next season. Mahomes was the clear MVP, 73% completion rate, and 333 yard in the air, plus 66 on the ground. The only other choice was McDuffie or Jones, because the defense played the way they have all year. Jennings kept the 9ers in the game, and was their best.

Don’t forget that Elway got Shanahan to the SB, but one-man magic show that made them kings of the regular season couldn’t get them a win. When they finally broke that, Elway wasn’t the magic man anymore, he was a really experienced game manager, and Terrell Davis plus an unbeatable O line got him the rings.
i find it remarkable that people are defending purdy's play. He missed several key throws and he literally answered the question 'Is he good enough to win the super bowl?' Nope. What other quarterback circumstance is better in the league? I mean, the 49ers have the most talent by a WIDE margin and this dude literally couldnt put any drives together. Like, he literally answered the question IN THE SUPER BOWL. He got blitzed every play and couldnt handle it. Crazy shit. If the 49ers win, would purdy even been in the discussion for super bowl mvp? He wouldve been an embarrassment to the award.
Just an observation about Shanahan, he clearly uses the most of his talent, probably one of the best in the league. However, in big games, he doesn't seem to have answers or adjustment. Super 59 second half is prime example. Last year's NFC championship not having an answer for the hot Haason Reddick and getting two QB's injured? This superbowl, Spagnola brought in different looks with heavy linebackers instead of the nickel- no adjustments.

I don't think Shanahan's job can survive anything less than a Super Bowl win next year. I know that's a lot of pressure, but he's already proven he can win in the regular season and in the playoffs. That's not what the Niners are looking for anymore. If they don't go back or if they go back and lose again (god forbid it's another loss to the Chiefs), they gotta fire him.
As a niner fan Kyle Shanahan is ordinary coach in the posteseason especially in SB and yes of course a GENIUS in the REGULAR SEASON when it doesn´t matter
The SF defense played well enough to win that game. The SF offense, however, let KC hang around and didn't build a bigger lead when they had ample opportunities. It's only fair (and right) to put a performance like that on Shanahan.
You can't blame the team. The team played well and the QB played well. People go out of their way to blame whatever QB the 49ers have rather than point fingers at the coach. The Chiefs defense was better. Period.
I think he coached good overall but there was some big mistakes 1. The 3rd quarter offensive play calling was horrendous. The defense had to just keep coming back on the field. 2. Taking the ball first in the OT, and giving Patrick Mahomes an extra down. 3. When you took the ball first and got down to the red zone, that needs to be 4 down territory. Again, giving Mahomes an extra down and all he needs is a field goal is suicide.
Its not that there wasn''t that play from Purdy, It that Kyle S. didn't let Purdy spread his wings. Kyle has PTSD from Jimmy G. Which led Kyle to ground Purdy on the biggest stage.
Everyone talked about how it was Purdy's supporting cast that made him look good. He put balls in catchable places and that supporting cast got out played by the Chiefs DBs. McDuffie outplayed Deebo. At some point when your QB puts the ball in the right place you need to go up and make a play and that didn't happen. Other than Jennings. McCaffery fumbled. Williams had badly timed penalties. Kittle was anonymous. Pinning this on Purdy explains why Phil was the more successful Simms.
Kirk Cousins??? GTFOH!! What Cousins gives them as a better passer he also limits them because Purdy moves better. You ain't winning anything with Cousins. Cousins has 1 wildcard round playoff victory in his entire career and even that game was gift wrapped by Drew Brees
People still putting way too much stock in Purdy lol....He's gonna be Jimmy G 2.0 in the sense that you're never going to win bc of him, he managed not to be reason they lost, but he's not gonna win it for them.....If you look at the playoffs Purdy tried his hardest to lose it for them if not for dropped interceptions and some Dan Campbell coaching malpractice. If they ride with Purdy to get them over the hump, they're never winning. He's not that guy. But the NFC sucks so much he'll look good probably every year till they play against legit AFC QBS.

He is definitely the Chiefs second best player and he was more consistent this year than Mahomes. Guy is up there with Reggie White. An inside pass rusher can control the game just as much as a great QB can.

It leads to a disconnect between players- coaches and it’s why he always seems to fold in high pressure moments
And I’m not sure how you fix that. Maybe he needs to give up playcalling and focus on the other stuff. It’s not like he couldn’t overrule a bad call
The difference is having an all time QB. Reid lost a lot of big games before Mahomes.
I said the same thing, he killed the rhythm of that offense to start the 2nd half with 10 passes to 2 run plays and 3 three and outs
Agreed CMC in your backfield and your passing?
Shanahan isnt losing to greatness he has single-handedly created greatness for the Chiefs. Shanahans incompetence has given them 2 of their 3 rings.
He is helping other teams in the playoffs. does not care about 49ers.
Man, i never thought about it like that! Kyle does not learn from his mistakes!
The Chiefs' center was snapping the ball low the whole GD game. It didn't stop him.
Great QB's can still make plays when everyone knows they're going to throw. 49ers have a pretty good, not great, QB.
If players execute, we're not even questioning Shanahan's playcalling.
To put this loss on Purdy is absurd
Whats equally absurd is Niner Fans throwing other segments of their team under the bus to defend Purdalicious

A muffed punt return, a couple fumbles, Greenlaw injury.. none of those were his fault
@@HendersonHinchfinchbad offensive line..

3 straight possession only 2 runs. What was crazy to me was where he was calling play action passes without even running the ball to start the 2nd half.
The 49ers are this generation's Bills from the late 80s/early 90s.

For real. Does anyone really believe Cousins is the answer? Plus, it’s reasonable to think Purdy will continue to improve for the next few years.
Thank You Chris! If Mahomes or Brady were on the 49ers, they would have won the game. Simple and Plain

Also he replaced Roddy with Sanu and they’re basically the same player only Sanu ran the wildcat occasionally.
Cousins over Purdy? Are you nuts?
What the hell is greatness. Everyone knew who was going to win the game before it was played.
Yeah, that's why the 49'ers were the betting favorites....
his reluctance to run the ball is astounding
Its not that there wasn''t that play from Purdy, It that Kyle S. didn't let Purdy spread his wings. Kyle has PTSD from Jimmy G. Which led Kyle to ground Purdy on the biggest stage.
Blaming the players and obviously not fairly criticizing Shanahan
He is a fantastic coach. I’m not even going to entertain the narrative that he can’t win the big game. Just hasn’t happened yet
Chris sat too close to Peter King... poor guy rest up
I mean look where they put the mics
Give shanahan the best quarterback ever and im sure he’d have a few
Kirk Cousins??? GTFOH!! What Cousins gives them as a better passer he also limits them because Purdy moves better. You ain't winning anything with Cousins. Cousins has 1 wildcard round playoff victory in his entire career and even that game was gift wrapped by Drew Brees
It’s just the Kirk Cousins curse still in full effect
Kirk wins that game
People still putting way too much stock in Purdy lol....He's gonna be Jimmy G 2.0 in the sense that you're never going to win bc of him, he managed not to be reason they lost, but he's not gonna win it for them.....If you look at the playoffs Purdy tried his hardest to lose it for them if not for dropped interceptions and some Dan Campbell coaching malpractice.
If they ride with Purdy to get them over the hump, they're never winning. He's not that guy. But the NFC sucks so much he'll look good probably every year till they play against legit AFC QBS.
cam newton is rubbing his chin right now!
I'm not sure why?
Did Cam Newton ever win a Super Bowl
@@TXN79 lol with that team ..no sir
@@spunn_co so did Purdy make game changing plays?????? no
@@Chalk89 Purdy isn't a play maker he is a guy. not bad but just a guy
I still believe in Shanahan this one hurts
Bang Bang Niner Gang promised Super Bowl or Bust - Honor your word - ! Shanahan and York MUST GO - Why keep proclaiming genius and nonstop arrogance with Boom boxes, Bosa stat chasing, Kittle trying to be Zoolander, etc etc. Bitching about the practice field, alarms going off etc etc . EDDIE D where are you? LETS BE MEN - Faithful FOREVER!
How does Florio always come up with these insane conspiracy theories that would never happen and that no one else would even entertain cuz it’s so stupid and unrealistic??
Bottom line is SF was recognized as a small favorite, and they lost, so there's not a lot of excuses available.
I think ppl really under shoot the ability of Spags and also Chris Jones. Chris Jones is up there with Reggie White. He's passed Aaron Donald last year. He is definitely the Chiefs second best player and he was more consistent this year than Mahomes. Guy is up there with Reggie White. An inside pass rusher can control the game just as much as a great QB can.
Absolutely right you must have been reading my mind!!!!!
Purdy in his 2nd year led the NFL in most passing metrics. The idea you just dump that for another QB is so stupid.
Are you sure you guys aren’t talking about the Dallas Cowboys?
If Kyle Shannahan goes through that game and his reaction is maybe we need a better QB, that would be exactly the problem with Kyle Shannahan.
He is not "cursed", he is not capable to manage and finish games with led on the score. He just melts.
As a 49s fan I just desire he leaves, he is good, but neither 49s and Kyle will won a SB together.
A couple of mistakes by the 49ers players and the injured players on defence was the the difference, it wasn't on Shanahan and Purdy. You have to play flawless to beat KC in any game, especially the SB.
Patrick, Mahomes said I got you guys come on my back and win the Super Bowl!!!
Mahomes is clearly the best QB of all time already.
