Moved to Hawaii Sept 2020 and Matson charged $7850 for 20ft container from Santa Cruz Ca to Kauai. Another $350 for delivery to Kauai house from port. Very efficient service all around. I did have to build a ramp to load the container. Found some YT vids that were helpful on ramps. Leave room on side of container to slide the ramp in to use on Hawaii end. Then I built garage shelving with extra lumber. We also shipped 2 vehicles using Matson. $1750 ea. Great service on that too! We did all of our loading and unloading ourselves. But there are reputable people that will load/unpack your container if you need help. Look on craigslist under moving service. I've been enjoying your informative videos, Aloha!
2018: We got a U-Pack “pod” (8’x8’) delivered right to our driveway in San Jose. We packed it full to the top with 2 bedrooms worth of furniture, all our kitchen stuff including pots, pans, dishes, appliances (no fridge, of course), dining table with 6 chairs, bikes, etc. All in for $4,000. Pros: Very convenient: Door to door service. Also, I consider it a plus that you pack it yourself because if you have any valuables (and who doesn’t?!) then you get to be extra careful and pack them accordingly. Con: You pack yourself (Hence the name U-Pack, not quite as convenient as having pros do it.
In '99 from California I took furniture, piano, rocking chairs, etc to a semi dry spot in the south of big island. The salt, vog and humidity were not kind. Swollen wood, pitted chrome, etc. Rethink your lifestyle and adopt the motto Less is more. Live Aloha!
Thanks for all the info We are moveing To Hawaii from Texas in 20 days and and would love to meet yalls Amazing Group when we get there. Brilliant idea of a support group, and a great way to meet New Friends Aloha 🤙
Thanks so much for this video! I live 2 hours north of San Francisco, and am planning to move to the big Island in 2 years. I've been stressing on how I was going to get all my family heirlooms to the island at a reasonable price! that place in Oakland is perfect!
Awesome video and great tips! My wife and I were just given the opportunity to move to the big island and we fly out tomorrow morning! Packing for this wasn't too hard because we had already downsized to live into our travel trailer full time across the USA. We are so happy to be able to visit Hawaii now as well :)
Moved to hawaii in 2010. Sold almost everything in ca and sent some over in boxes. Suggest selling it and buying it again. Did send the car over. Everyone wants to live in hawaii and i did. I loved it but couldnt get career going there. Was a hs teacher and the teaching jobs werent real good. If you have to work you will probably not be able to retire there. Things are expensive and in my opinion the island only lets in some people.....a few stay and many leave. I always had the feeling that outsiders shouldnt have been able to live there...we took their culture from them....
@@365Hawaii Thank you, I'll look into it. My nephew and his family live there and are enticing my family and I too join them. I lived in Haleiwa Oahu years ago and worked at Turtle Bay. I left my animals behind at the time due to the process and since I knew it wasn't a permanent move. But this time it would be different since I'd be moving with my husband and daughter for good. Love your videos, great content.
All of your info was in reference to Kona, do you know if there is a similar facility that I can ship to in Hilo? I am hoping to make the move in about six months, also I am not a FB user is there another way to get the updates on hosing deals without joining FaceBook? Mahalo for your time.
Kona Trans ships to Hilo, too, They have a larger ship yard than West Hawaii! Facebook right now is where I am doing the videos, but if you give me your email address, I can get you set up on a listing alert with my real estate partners in Hilo. Send to Julie@Ziemelis.com
I used Aloha Freight in Torrance CA. They pick up if needed. It was easy. Everything arrives in Kona a week later, you get updates on you mobile. My wife and I use them every few months.
Have you tried delivering your stuff through the post office(USPS)? I heard it was the cheapest way to ship if you have a few things. Or do you any cheaper way?
Joe-we sent our plates through USPS..they broke 75% of them!!!! Books and non-breakables you can send media mail, but we lost a fortune trying to save money going through USPS.
i removed the back interior panels in my suv and stuffed it full of garage stuff. must have had 100 lbs of stuff in there that matson never knew was hiding back there. -yea i'm a cheapo
I've asked a few companies about that same idea. None of them lets you put personal things in your vehicle to be shipped, unless they are vehicle related items like jumper cables, tire iron, spare tire, etc.
Thank you for this video! Very helpful. So nice to see fellow redheads thriving and in the sun in Hawaii - it is a little stressful for me worrying about sunburn, but I know with flexibility and precautions (sounds familiar now in COVID19), we can adjust!
I’m going through a mover to get door to door service. About one bedroom apt worth of stuff. And one vehicle I’ll probably send via Matson. Budgeting about $6,000. Crossing my fingers
Dental & medical procedures etc is a very good idea to. I could give a shit about covid & it plays no role in my action. I earned that with 25 years in Surgical Path. It is just a good idea.
What a waste of money everyone puts in moving but I guess those of you who can afford those figures have enough to throw away and little to loose and plenty left. The meaning of frugal has no meaning.

Wow that is very reasonable
How long did the shipping take at that time?
@@wischfulthinking Not long, a week or two. Can’t remember exactly.
Thank you!

Saw the video. Great tips.
Great information and you are killing it with background views !!!
Thanks Lance!
Agreed on the background and the zebra doves cooing are excellent for relaxing background noise. Mahalo
@@jonathanmietzner8003 That is so funny..I did not even hear them in the video..their coos are so sweet...and NO Roosters in the neighborhood-yay!

Thanks for this. Been hunting for the best sofa when we move there. Like what fabric is the best?
Can you guys do an updated version of this video???
We are moving to Oahu in September for a couple years. Is there another moving company ? Our friend suggested Matson. Love all the tips!

Hi- can’t remember the way we get our animals to big island directly ? Lived there years ago but never brought my fur babies -
Any good moving companies to recommend? To Hilo from Midwest?
Did you move with animals? How would that work? Greatly appreciate any info. Thank you!
Moving with animals is a whole experience. The County has a very detailed website about requirements. It takes a long time and planning is essential.

Why did you move back to Sunnyvale?

This is interesting, however I have whittled down to to about 4 bags and maybe 4 boxes Just want to do it the cheapest way possible
I checked on pods and they do not deliver to Hilo at this time just FYI

Can you tell us if you filled your car withdtuff when you shipped it? If not, why? I would thi k a lit of it could have fit in a car being shipped?
Mason will not allow personal stuff in the car. Not sure why, maybe safety.

Thanks Celia, The sun was a little easier than we thought. Just do not go to the beach between 10-4pm
