I remember being in a maiden tribute and one of the members added this song and back in the village to the middle of the setlist, back-to-back. Thats when I found out you can work out the forearm and palm playing guitar. The solos were a nice break whenever we rehearsed.

Ah man you don't know how much I appreciate that! As for learning to play it better, try setting the resolution to 1080p and playback at 75% or even 50%. With my own tracks highlighting the guitar parts and the multiple camera angles, it should give you a very good idea of exactly what is being played. I’ve been listening to this song for decades, but it’s taken me until now to realise you could probably sing the words of the verse of ‘Where Eagles Dare’ over it and they’d fit.

I actually did a thing on Instagram where I showed how Adrian's solo in this song is actually a full-on blues solo by playing it over a laid back Chicago blues backing track in B minor... Works perfectly!

Oh believe me...I'vehad my shares of struggles with all of these songs over the years 😆 They can be tricky to play exactly right! Glad you enjoyed the video and so hope it can help you figure out any challenging bits - I try to include close ups and different angles for these covers so that the fingerings are easier to see. Especially if you slow it down a bit.

Powerslave was the first Iron Maiden's album I ever listened to, I was 15. Dunno why, it has kind of a mesmerizing power on me: all the riffs and solos...I could (I actually do) listen to them thousands of times, and I never have enough. It happens especially with the two solos from 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner'.
I think it's because the riffs and solos on that album are unique sounding and particularly memorable all while being simple enough for a young person who might not even play an instrument to understand. And it's probably also the age at which we discovered this music... 🙂
For me.....the most underrated Maiden song still to this day! Shame people sleep on this masterpiece track. It alone is better than a couple entire Maiden albums whole, lol

Thank you!! I don't believe it was ever played live. I think the decision regarding which songs will make it to the live set is made as they're rehearsing the songs before recording them, based on how things are feeling... Some songs you know will kill on stage and others just make better album tracks as the pacing and/or arrangement doesn't really work with an arena crowd. A tour of unplayed favourites would be the coolest thing ever if they were able to do it in smaller venues, with the focus being on the musical performance rather than the overall stage show and running around 😊

I really don’t know why!! Like also Infinitive dreams, losfer words, flash of blades!!! This one here is one of the best maidens‘ songs for me, and one of the best melodies/songs i‘ve ever heard!!!
It probably just didn't feel right live. Some songs just don't work within the context of the set or with the vibe of the snow. Others just end up feeling messy or even like something is missing when you play them live. It's a weird thing but some songs just work better in the studio while others might work better live!

Its a discrase ro humanity that this and Flash Of The Blade were lefy out to play live its one of my favorites of the album with the title track and Rime of the ancient mariner
that 2nd Adrian lick is quite challenging for me (Legato + the high B note)
It's a great lick to work on your string skipping 🙂 Try starting the legato on the G string with and Up stroke and the E string with a Down stroke and keep doing that pattern for the duration of the lick.

In the chorus, is one guitar just playing the open A, then the B octave note and picking those higher strings? And then the same concept when it switches to G then A, all while the other guitar just plays the power chords?
In another cover I watched someone played the power chord and while holding it picked those notes. It just hurts to bar the power chord like that lmao

In the chorus, Dave is playing just the root notes/muted power chords and Adrian is doing open chords with the open strings as embellishments. Cheers!

Many many Maiden songs use only A, B and C chords, the difficult thing is to create something magic with that.
I argue they use C5 D5 and E5 more often than ABC
