When he said "im raising my son not a glass" that gave me butterflies (': this is how the world needs to be honestly. What a great dad 😎 wish i had parents as rational as this.
So true :') but we must love them for doing their best nevertheless as they may not have had materials such as this book growing up to show them better beliefs and values
If there was one video I wanted to be perfect it was this one. But then I realised that no matter how good the video was it wouldn't do the book justice. The book is that good. It gets better and better as you go along. Sometimes you read a book and it leaves you asking more questions than you found answers. This is not one of them. It answers a lot of questions and each chapter is extremely useful. The book quickly made its way into my top 3 but by the end its honestly challenging for the number 1 spot. A must read. Thank you Dr Steve Peters.
Thanks for the video, I have been reading it and doing some of the exercises. I find it awesome that you used personal and other examples that others can identify with rather than using the stock examples!
Someone introduced me to this this morning, I work the 12 step programme on a daily basis and have found this to be very similar to the way I now try to live my life on a day to day basis. "Thoughts, Feelings & Behaviours" - "Am raising my son not a glass" - "Forget about things I cant change". Very interesting and I got a lot from this video, thanks
This book is fixing my mind on so many levels. Anxiety being the biggest enemy, this book actually makes you the driver and sits you in the driver seat of your own mind. If you want the change in your life that is , the secrets lie inside the book it becomes how much do you want to break free from the chimp. Its that simple.
Steve, thank you for this 11 minutes of great enlightenment. This gives meaning to see all sides of situation, and how we give our power away. I will use this technique in the future.
I’m currently reading the book and it’s really good. Really helps you understand yourself and others on a bigger scale. It’s not like he kind of cheesy wishy washy self help books that just recycle the same stuff. And another thing thats great is its sciencey so you don’t have to believe in a god or spirituality for it to help you.
Robert, thank you for this excellent animation. I read the Chimp Paradox about 18 months ago and as a result it has profoundly influenced how I manage myself. I've been an avid promoter of the book amongst friends and family, but a missing piece of the jigsaw has sometimes been how best to convey the key messages the book contains. Your video is what I will use from now to help with this. Once again, thank YOU for creating and sharing .
Your beginning quote from your dad about being angry in the right way is a brilliant quote from Aristole. It is a sub heading in the book: Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goldman.
My dad said, "the man who stays calm under pressure will have no regrets, he who doesn't may have many." Someone bit more famous than my dad once said, "getting angry is easy, getting angry at the right time in the right way, at the right person, that is not easy." You are correct that famous person was Aristotle.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been trying to find a way to explain the chimp paradox to my highly emotional, sports mad, 10 year old son. I think this will be perfect!
A good effort Sir, well done. I have been aiming to do some Chimp Paradox animations of my own to help me with my own learning if nothing else. I've been on a Chimp Paradox course and also immersed myself in the subject...I think the preferred terminology is about 'managing' the chimp and not 'controlling' the chimp. In reality we generally manage our chimp and situations as we can rarely control them. All the best of luck to you on your journey into Chimp Management.
+leon m Thanks Leon for taking the time to comment. Thanks for your insight. I agree 'managing' the chimp is a great way to look at it. Best of luck to you too.
