Efren was my pool hero when I was younger. When I turned 21 and was old enough to venture into bars, I fell in love with the game of pool. I watched every single Efren video, all day, and before I went to sleep. I imitated his style and his stroke, because I thought his windmill stroke looked beautiful and fluid, unorthodox even. Sometimes I'd exaggerate it even more to look like Bustamante's. Eventually I didn't have to imitate it, it just became my stroke after a while. I'd chalk with the left hand, and then slightly toss the cue with my right to choke up before doing a warm-up stroke, just like he did. I would get binder reinforcement stickers to mark where the balls are to set up every shot he played and I'd replay them over and over. I would spend 8 hours a day playing pool, practicing kicks, and watching Efren videos. The funniest part about it, was that eventually I got good enough to run an entire 9-ball rack, but as soon as I missed a ball, without fail, some older guy would approach me and say, "see, the problem is that wavy stroke of yours. You're never going to get any better with that kind of stroke. You need solid mechanics if you want to get good." I would just laugh, and keep practicing. Efren will eventually be gone, but there will be so many of us from generations after him that will carry his flame. I know I'm just a cheap imitator and I'll never be as good as he is, but I'll always do my best to channel him every time I pick up my cue.
not sure if i am a fan of earl but he is more fun to watch than most players. you guys should also watch him playing on the 10 foot table against shane.
people in the comments don't realize that pagulayan has a long history of clapping and cheering from the crowd when earl misses a ball. in serious matches.
Yeah your right wimpy Lassiter was one weenie Bernie just to name a couple could go on spend my youth at Bernie's pool room in Arlington VA saw many road agent come through
The Seminole Pro tour was run by Tony Crosby when I played on tour 2007-2009. It was the greatest experience I have ever had. There were 167 Pros on that tour. I got down to being ranked 58 and then I was in a head on collision , my Corvette was totaled and I was done.-Ron Cerelli- The Legend.
Say what you want about Earl, but notice his videos have about 10X the hits as other matches that he is not in. He brings spectators, can't argue that. People want to watch matches that he is in. :-)
The only difference is that Strickland is one of the best pool players in the world and Hellmuth is one of the worst poker players in the world.. They are similar because they are a cry babies....
True but when he got those bracelets many of them or at least a handful of them there were like about 200 people showing up to the tournament not the thousands and thousands that show up today. The sheer number volume that is, makes luck of the draw kind of an important thing LOL
Am I the only one that thinks Earl was just having a little fun once he started losing? I noticed him smile here and there throughout all the antics. Even the handshake at the end, he was cracking up. I know players that like to get under the other player's skin for fun and maybe Earl was just trying to have a jibe or maybe he was sharking. Nothing Alex shouldn't be able to handle

@Warren Lucian Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
@ steelz, nobodies perfect. We all got our flaws. Earl has a personality flaw but he not a bad guy. You don't have to respect him as a human or like him. I might not like Earl too. But because I know people are all different and have faults. I would still respect him. Also respect him for what he has done in the game. You got to give respect to one of the greatest players ever. Then just feel sorry for him on his faults.
Nobodys perfect. You're right about that. But if enough people tell you that you're an ass hole then the person can at least make an attempt to change.

Wenlong zhang summed It up perfectly. Phil Helmuth and Earl Strickland are twins, Both temperamental and immature, Their egos grew out of control but The emotional maturity never caught up.
What's surprising is how Earl failed to notice that the scorekeeper gave Alex his 5th game won for free in the middle of game 9, while Earl was at the table! Even the commentators failed to catch that! Someone had money on that match & clearly the scorekeeper had to be in on it!
if alex misses a shot and ends up still winning the match, he always remembers that one shot he missed, and tries to do it again, when their announcing his win lol
Knowing that larry Nevel is on the other table playing for the finals, it makes me mad to see the videos on the side has the finals match on there. Cant enjoy this video now.
Nobady can actually count on the luck but the luck is an important part of this game so if the luck dose'nt stand by you you're going to have a tough game but when you practice more and get more creative in the game you'll definitely creat your own luck and that's what great people do
I feel sorry for professional pool players. Even the best wind up broke with no other source of income in later life. That is why I limit my playing to regional amateur tournaments and I quit in a money game if I lose $50.
Karl Boyes (in other videos) and Corey Deuel are two of the best player commenters. They have a touch of humility that lend weight to their opinions. I wish they covered more matches .. but I'd prefer to have Corey winning than relegated to the microphone.
I know the kind of days Earl is having. It's not that I dont have the skill. We know he has the skill. But like me you can see his heart just isnt in it. I mean he wants his heart to be in it. But the level of energy..whatever you wanna call it. It's just not there. That's frustrating. Man when my heart is in it and I'm having fun. I am not that easy to beat. But it's like they said about Shane. Winning a world championship and they asked him what's he gonna do He said hes gonna go find an empty table and hit balls.. wow. I have..literally done nothing. I mean I've won some little tournaments here and there. I've won some decent money here and there. But I havent exactly sketched my name in Pool History hall of fame. And there are days I just can NOT make a ball because I just dont wanna be there. I mean I want to because I'm there but for whatever reason I'm just not that into it. But maybe if I could quit my job and focus solely on pool ya know. That would be cool. Win my first big tournament and realize I can make it off just playing pool. That would be huge. Dude I hate working. And it gets in the way of pool. Big time. Try working 12 hrs. Being sore from head to toe and coming to play your best. It's not gonna happen. Its flat out not happening.
Yeah he just needs to get disqualified a few times for his behavior and he would likely change, which would've happened long ago If he were playing snooker in England.
Despite its age, this vid shows Earl and Alex both playing well and poorly. Earl's sportsmanship is not too bad, considering his rep and the way the rolls fall in this match, and Alex, known for slooow play, actually gets his shots in line and fires away without delay. Alex should win this due to his youth, but never count Earl out until the last ball falls. I would always prefer watching vids of Earl instead of Alex because of Alex's propensity for very slow play. I can learn something from Earl's play, especially if the video is well done with many close-ups of him stroking the cue ball. Alex is a harder read; his short stature and need to use the rake so often does not align with the way most people of average height play the game, but no denying his talent.
I’d love to be in the crowd and wait til cry baby earl starts whining about when he is loosing everything is wrong, blaming every one every thing especially his opponent for wanting to beat him, if I were in this crowd I’d have some fun with earl the whiner, not a fan of 60 yo babies

Thanks for uploading.

How about you glide through these nuts. 🥜🥜

I wish earl would bring back the tennis sunglasses. that was nice, would go well with the 20 foot long cue and elbow bumpers.

That is crazy I never knew about that what is the story? Normally Earl would go crazy on someone cheering after he misses.
yeah, one famous is the match between earl and efren..
alex got a word for that.. phrase even lmao
This is true
Yeah and it's probably because Earl has been such a cock bag over the years to so many different players.
I think watching Earl Strickland he would be a great spokesperson for Kleenex wipe those tears Earl!!!
Earl Strickland will be missed. I don’t like these legends getting old...

Wonder what Earl told alex there at the end during the handshake. Probably “you got lucky” or some rude shit like that
Say what you want about Earl, but notice his videos have about 10X the hits as other matches that he is not in. He brings spectators, can't argue that. People want to watch matches that he is in. :-)

this time i searched earl vs alex, last time was earl vs busta, etc etc
I came for Alex and just muted it because I can't stand Earl whining.

earl and alex ... go way back.... nothing but respect for each other
You wish you could play half as good as Strickland!....he is a legend.
Yeah and a douchebag too
If i had to choose between loosing both hands or becoming like strickland, i rather not play again than become an insecure whiny asshole
If you have the braveness to talk and act like him you will be half way there.
Richard's World Traveler I think courage was the word you were grasping for. Strickland is an asswipe, no matter how you word it!
Earl is the best, he has beat Efren more than anybody else on the plt.
man, what a cue does he play there? how long is it? looks like a 2-3 inch extension
Babyface Gullyassy custom cue. I believe it's 64" long.
It's probably even more. It's not a cue, it's just an extension. Earl shoots with cutech and probably just had on a 4-6 inch extension.
Damico07
He was dropped by Cuetec a long time ago.
His stick has been taking Viagra or something .
the biggest question of the match.... did Alex make the shot after the game!?
You all prolly dont care but does anyone know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account..?

Lol I'm from pasadena Texas. Graduated at pasadena high school. I never knew earl lived here. I know he lived in Houston for a while.
if alex misses a shot and ends up still winning the match, he always remembers that one shot he missed, and tries to do it again, when their announcing his win lol
Thats how Efren does it. He will go back to recreate the shot he missed.
Knowing that larry Nevel is on the other table playing for the finals, it makes me mad to see the videos on the side has the finals match on there. Cant enjoy this video now.
