- Come along as we take a look back at steam fan-favorite Frisco 1522, on her last weekend of excursions before retirement, September 28-29, 2002. We'll ride the cab, chase trackside, ride the FireFly up Rolla Hill, and talk with her Chief Mechanical Officer and engineer Don Wirth about running her and what it would take to get her running again!
Please help us grow by liking and sharing this video!
Even if she may never run again, I like that she’s at least kept in good, indoor condition.
I still dream without a doubt that hopefully Frisco 1522 will be back and better than ever on the high iron via under a full head of steam.
She is of course... My No. 1 Favorite Steam Locomotive, hence why I still believe it for her.
Lottery dreams for myself as well. A full restoration And someplace to run. That whole museum could benefit from relocating where operations beyond a streetcar are possible. All it takes is money and a vision
@@railsaroundtrainguy Indeed.
And besides... we are in quite the renaissance period where a lot of steam locomotives restorations are happening and were accomplished. :)
For example... many thought a Union Pacific Big Boy would never run again, but man oh man... 4014 was able to prove them wrong! :D
Nice intro, Jimi 🤘🏼
I was thinking since we all want to see 1522 restored what if they get a boiler flue sheet from one of her sister engines? If they have any
I was hoping to catch the run by of sister engine 1501 at 27:00. They used 1501's pistons in the restoration of 1522. Although I never got to ride behind her, my grandpa took me to the National Museum of Transportation to see her last steam up where they ran her back and forth over the museum track. I got to climb up into the cab. What a great memory of 1522 and my grandpa. Thanks for the great content!
love this cab footage at 9:00, cool to hear the stack talk/whistle inside the cab.. amazing video! 1522 is a great memory in RR preservation
Good video, like...
great video Michael, you got me in the door of the crew car at Valley Park on the curve. That trip was one of my most memorable trips ever in railroading.
Good video and great sound Mike. Even with the old geezer's comments.
Great video, 1522 sure could talk, couldn't she?
You did great! I need better equipment for phone interviews like that
Sure must've been awesome getting the chance to ride in 1522's cab before going back into retirement. Would be great to see her run again, but I have my doubts it'll possibly ever happen.
But you know me Evan: I'm still a dreamer. :)
Cause one can't forget that Frisco 1522 is without a doubt My No.1 Favorite Steam Locomotive :D
@@jimmyhook4852 I know, but not everything will always have happy ending.
@@evanf1293 Heh =3 I'll still keep dreaming though. ;)
Was 1522's booster engine working?
Yes, perfectly
Well done Mike!
Thank you sir!
The chance of that running again is the same chance of N&W 1218, PRR 1223 and 7002 running again. The group that ran it on BNSF disbanded.
It's interesting seeing the engineer and firemen use headsets to communicate like when piloting a plane. I've never seen that done before with a steam loco.
Per crewman Steve Anderson who shot that footage for me, they were the only 2 engine crew that wore those. Don Wirth did not
@@railsaroundtrainguy I guess it's preference then.
