In 1961 I marched with my Uncle Russell down 2 Street. As a 17yo, it was the highlight of my life. Girls and women kissing me, some getting frisky, people giving me booze. It is a cherished memory as I turn 80. If I remember correctly, he was a member of the Golden Slipper Club and lived by 2nd & Sigel Street. This is the first time I saw 2 Street again, what a pleasure to see it. Oh yeah, I was taught how to do the Mummers Strut and can still do it.
this is the real deal!!! this is the way it was and should be, GREAT STRUTTING, GREAT MUSIC. hate all the theatrics. stopped watching. not a parade at all now. those stupid performances are boring and have no SOUL. bring back the feathers and the great marching choreography. this was so great, have to go to 2nd st. to see real mumming.
I’m embarrassed to watch the String bands perform on New Years Day. Because the instruments are spread around, the sound just goes into the air. Whoever stated this, should be fired! I don’t want to watch a broadway show. Go back to the old way, it was beautiful!
You guys get to see them live. We used to love watching them on TV on New Year's Day in sunny Ca. I'll take em any way I can get them. Oh and I'm listening right now play an old favorite of mine. I'll See You In My Dreams an old Gus Khan hit.

Totally agree...a culture change that has not ended well...substituting novelty and excess for talent and hard work.

@@Beach510 exactly!! they are putting on cheap imitations of broadway shows and it's awful. the traditions are lost.
@@leslieadkins5774 yes, like another said, it's embarrassing to watch. alot of showboating. no spirit.
