Shadow probably realizes that the Biolizard is how *he* also might have ended up as, had he not been created with the Black Arms DNA. The Biolizard's existence is a reminder that there was never a possibility of him gaining life without Black Doom's influence. Considering Gens is all about Shadow's fate (as Black Doom's biological son and weapon) coming back to bite him in the ass, I can understand his anger toward the Biolizard.
The screams and grunts he makes when he's obtaining the Doom Powers sounds so realistic. And when Maria is saying goodbye, he sounded like he's about to cry. I love it!
Wow, JP Mephiles has a couple additional lines, and they’re all callbacks to things he said to Shadow in the past - only this time in a much more dog-foaming-at-the-mouth murdery rage. His seiyuu must’ve really liked the role to squeeze those additionals in there.
I didn’t cry in the English version but after watching this I sobbed like a baby especially at 28:48. There’s something so earnest in the way Maria speaks here, it’s so full of kindness and innocence a child has, not to mention a reprised version of Reflection from SA2 playing in the background. In the English version, I sympathized with the characters greatly, but I never felt the emotion of the delivery of their lines (except Shadow). To me, Maria sounded like a typical anime girl, not the sweet, gentle little girl she is. But here, in this video, Yuri Shiratori nails it. I never thought I’d cry over a Sonic game, but in this I did. Just imagining this poor sweet kid tragically die after watching this video broke my heart and for Shadow to lose them again? Wow. Phenomenal. Just phenomenal.
Big made Shadow smile. Amy reminded Shadow of Maria's wish. Shadow can help Amy find Cream and Cheese in his own game. I think he just likes Team Rose.
I really do love the part where Shadow helped Maria up since she’s the one that has supported him so much in the past and now he gets to return the favour and protect her 😭 I’m glad this game gave him some sort of closure but at the same time it’s so sad since he has to leave Maria again 😭😭😭 He couldn’t face it so much that he ran away before they finished fading away. Man it just shows how much thought the team thought about when animating these cutscenes… They did such a great job truly. Thanks so much again for translating and compiling this urghhh 😭😭😭😭💖💖💖💖💖
I love how soft shadow’s voice can get especially when saying Maria, there’s something about it only really captured by the japanese voice it captures his personality and who he is very well which is one of the reasons I always return to the Japanese voices despite enjoying the English mostly due to being able to understand it lol. There’s something special about the voice acting where I can hear who he is if that makes sense with the Japanese voice and it’s just so well done
"I want to exist" sounds like he's about to cry that he isn't in the main timeline and no one remembers him and going out like a bitch. "N-No... This time... I will...!" is much more in line with Mephiles' character and is much, much more raw. It shows his last-ditch effort to defeat Shadow and restore was all in vain as he continues to desperately try to cling on to what little life he has before Shadow seals him away and leaves him trapped.
Its honestly better. Mephiles sounds way too desperate in English, like pathetically so. The JP line feels desperate but frustrated and determined, it fits Mephiles character much more.

I'm glad they got Ryuzaburo Otomo back for the role. It's been a while since I watched Shadow the Hedgehog's JP cutscenes, but I vaguely remember what he sounded like there, so when I heard Black Doom in this game, I was wondering if that was Otomo doing his voice. And it was. The Japanese do a really good job retaining the original VA's.
It's really interesting how they made tweaks to the script when translating it into japanese.. Like, Mephiles for example! He's a lot less sad and frustrated, and a lot more blindingly enraged. It's so neat!

21:57 The cutscene with Shadow and Sonic has some interesting differences, from what I can tell there's no direct references to the Japanese dialogue of Heroes or SA2, at least based on your English translations for those games. It seems they chose to translate those lines from the English script at face value instead, with some tweaks to make the dialogue more natural. The final line from Sonic "Nice hustle!" being nearly exact is cool though, I really liked that line from the English version :D I'll come back and watch the other cutscenes once I finally get this game, seeing the differences between your Japanese translations and the English scripts are always fascinating!

I mean to be honest that is not a high bar to clear, it's usually agreed what whole Sonic generations is one of the best games gameplay wise it's story it's not one of it's strong points
I think the only changes are that eggman was redubbed with his new VA and Sonic has a few new lines in the cutscenes to match up with the added mouth movements in the English rewrite.

I think the English script for this game would be the original, yes. But in regards to the Japanese VA's, they've been mostly consistent since the Sonic Adventure games, so they're practically the original VA's (Shadow, Sonic, etc.).

There is only one timeline. Any time there wasn't (aka during Forces' development), it was just a very poorly written retcon.
