The composer writes: 'I wrote more... and found myself in the unusual position of rejecting everything as superfluous, as diminishing the force of the idea. Live with the final E flat, it "contains" the other notes. And that there is nothing after it is perhaps shocking: the end defines the meaning.' (Jonathan Harvey)
