Idk if you respond to comments but is there a reason why you use the regular barrel bombs and not the large or mega?

If you’re referencing the small barrel bombs, I use those instead because they detonate quickly on their own and are enough to activate offensive guard for more damage. Also I try to respond to every comment but sometimes im busy so it may take a bit. Thanks for asking!

The barrel bombs aren't to damage the monster its to activate the counter move.

Both palico and palamute have sleep weapons. You can see the ailment clouds when both of them hit the monster.

Its not a mod. Your hunter quips every now and then in Rise/Sunbreak.
You can thankfully tweak how often they do it or just straight up disable it.
I have mine set at 20% frequency just because I find the cringiness funny sometimes
