Americans are not interested in these kind of machines and Renault knows it, why bother just to lose money and sell just a handful of units? In America is all about drag racing and humongous power figures. They laugh at you when you talk about your 200 hp sports car. Yes, the Cayman is almost perfect and easy to drive fast. But the Alfa 4C and Alpine A110 have "character". They have some minor issues but you won't use these cars as an everyday driver. They are good for the weekend (or a race track) and therefor your second (or third) car. They cayman could be your daily driver but it won't thrill you. That's the reason I bought the Alfa ;)
An engine start button SHOULD be orange, not red. If a button serves an dual function (in this case start OR stop) it should not be colour coded to either of those functions if it can't be to both. Now, green is generally held to mean go, and red to mean stop. What comes 'in between'? yes, amber ... AKA orange. You're welcome.
An engine start button should be green. An engine stop button should be red. An engine start/stop button should be Amber 😉 AKA Orange. You’re welcome too👍🏻
what he forgot to say is that the alpine is as fast from 0 to 60 as the Porsche Cayman GT4 but costs £ 40K less ! and besides, what he thought was plastic is real carbon fiber available in two finishes (matte and gloss) and if the sunvisors do not have covers and the speakers are so "cheap" it is to remove unnecessary weight...
He was wrong about the speakers. They are made by Focal a french loudspeaker company that makes some of the best speakers in the world. I suppose most people wont know that though.
Excellent review once again. A shame Alpine decided to benchmark Porsche on price (as well). The engineering in assembly, the materials specs and the versatility are just not par with Porsche's together with its gearbox and not to mention the brand's history, dealership network and mods parts supply chain. Here we have another brand making the same mistake as Lotus have done for donkey years: trying to be par on price with Porsche without being level on all attributes. Hats off anyway for a very well engineered chassis and an overall lightweight figure. Too expensive in my opinion and too restricted in what a customer can opt for which is another Porsche strong point
This car is a throwback to 80's and 90's when an M3 could get away with "just" 286bhp and it's on-point now since BMW did just release 1M being a lightweight aggressor. I like the fixed steering wheel centre and fact it's that light so 1.8 turbo can deliver.
I'd have this over a Cayman any day. You can see interviews with the manager of the project and you can see how cool of a dude he is and how passionate he is about the car and the project. It's amazing what they were able to achieve with such a limited budget.
I never use "best". something new is always around the corner. As a musician, years of " who's the best drummer or whatever) or best artist. IMHO Its not a competition. however my car crush is 959 Gruupe B
Love the car, but hate the price. Even if you hate the TTRS you can't deny the performance you get for the same money: 2.5L 5-cylinder 400hp engine, 4 wheel drive, better fit and finish, plus rear seats.
Since it's made by Renault maybe Nissan can use the chassis to make the next 240SX/Silvia or maybe some new sports car that's supposed to rival the BRZ.
@James_N you are a genius I want to see that if nissan made a new sport car but I think that wouldn't be a Silvia because Silvia is only a name for S chassis after the S13
Disappointing?? I own an Alfa Romeo 4C and it makes me smile every single day. It's a much better car than the Porsche 718 Cayman, which I also have driven, and I had to try hard not to fall asleep driving it.
@@davideneco Sure, the interior is basic, but the driving experience is anything but. Which is what this car is all about. Which is what any sports car should be all about. If I wanted a nicer interior I would have bought a luxury car. A hand-made, carbon fiber and fiber glass super-car/sports car, that has the performance of cars with three times the price tag, is a burgeon. In Australia, the price of the Launch Edition 4C is already AU$30k-40k higher than what it was sold for, 4 years ago.
Better reliability as the TT ? Certainly not ! Better build quality as the Cayman ? Certainly not ! More fun to drive as the TT or the Cayman ? HELL YEAH !!!!!
Someday this is gonna be a modern classic. A track car on public road. And since you mentioned Alfa 4C. That is a great car. And then Touring got their hands on it and it become Disco Volante turned it into a very beautiful masterpiece.
I’ve always wanted McLaren to make an entry level 4-cyl mid engine sports car. The Alpine is basically a McLaren 250S; lightweight with amazing handling but with a supple ride, very McLaren-like.
I love your videos quite a lot. But that "cheap plastic" vs "expensive plastic" is ridiculous. It's the same plastic, where one are painted with "rubbery" paint which will peel off in few years. I used to be editor of car-show on comercial TV back in 1998 (in Slovenia). Than the reviewer praised "high quality" plastic on new AUDI cars. The rest is history; the cheapest possible white ABS plastic revealed soon under plasti-dip like paint that car industry uses for 20 years now. When ever I hear "quality plastic, I get measles , since in few years that will become sticky, peeling off crap, that will deminish any resale value of the car it had. In my car I had fortune that it was black plastic under black paint at least I could rub it off all and it was just shiny "cheap" plastic that looked way better than before.
Yeah you nailed that one. It's the same plastic, it can be put together better and that will vary from car to car even on the same model so... Yeah it is what it is.
I know what you mean with the peeling, previous Citroen did that but I wouldn’t say that’s what good plastic is, on the 2017 Volvo I’m driving at the moment the dash is plastic but soft kind of spongy, far better and different to rubberised hard plastic
I feel the difference and smell the difference. They base mix might be the same but you can finish the plastic without coatings that peel. The finish can be final and wont peel as its moulded differently.
Matthew Holmes It's ABS in the cheapest and in the most luxury car - possible made in same EU factory for all brands (in my country one factory make seats for almost all EU manufacturers and my frineds work there). There is some effort put into how it will look and feel to touch, but it is made from same granullate of plastic. As one said also how it is put together. More expensive car will put more effort on joints that will not squeek (that soon), than the oher. Also some cars have rather spongy foam over plastic than just rubber paint. Alfa 156 had thhat kind of soft dasboard that was great looking and non reflective and looked like leather, but was pain to clean after dust sticked in pores. I remember 2000's Audi (VW on general) had rave about "quality plastic" only to be revealed after not long that under "plastidip" there is the cheapest white ABS. Worse than any "hard plastic" which was actually tinted to proper color, so it was as it was forever. :) Also "wood", "chome", "aluminium" elements mostly just stickers or special painted plastic parts. Just to differentiate trim levels. All materials and components of base model already have to meet al regulation, so what they try is to convince us to opt for expensive trime leves with gadgets and "feel" for as little cost as possible. I also hate that cars become smart-hhones or gameing consoles. I want buttons and levers and knobs that I can operate in my dreams not stupid LCD screens that I need to pull over to navigate safelly since they not offer any mechanical feedback of my input and driver must pay 100% attention just to change heating. How this is SAFE, but using phone that is only holded at my ears is NOT?
I think one reason for the 'cheap plastics' is that it contributes to the cars very light weight. There will a trade off with a modern car for it to be only 1100kgs.
The tester criticizes the infotainment system. It is from Bosch. The tester also does not know that it has a built-in automatic stopwatch system for measuring the acceleration values 0-100, 0-200 km / h. Instead, he uses an external system.
There are plenty of other options in the same category that have little to no "forgiveness of faults" required. However, the quirkiness and distinctive exterior styling will certainly move a few units. It sort of reminds me of a 90's Toyota, if you squint. (I'd love to see a Lancia Rally inspired car for the road)
Check out the A110 on the Nurburgring driven by L'Argus. The competitor cars have nowhere near as lively handling as the A110! Opposite lock in nearly every bend!
A Lotus Elise in your driveway is more convenient than a Alpine at the dealership so not sure why you'd judge a car on convenience. If you mean more practical i.e. luggage space, access etc then people don't really buy little sports cars on that basis. If practicalities are a deciding factor the Cayman or TT beat the Alpine hands down.
Steve Cade simple ! I am not judging a driving car on convenience but if you look at the first 4 minutes of the video, the alpine is juged on this aspect! So my comparaison is utterly fair! And for having had 2 lotus Elise I can confirm that those cars are fun but not convenient at all.

Americans are not interested in these kind of machines and Renault knows it, why bother just to lose money and sell just a handful of units? In America is all about drag racing and humongous power figures. They laugh at you when you talk about your 200 hp sports car. Most of them don't get these small, very light and supple cars, where it's all about balance and handling, not feeling g-force when smashing the throttle between traffic lights.

Yes, the Cayman is almost perfect and easy to drive fast. But the Alfa 4C and Alpine A110 have "character". They have some minor issues but you won't use these cars as an everyday driver. They are
good for the weekend (or a race track) and therefor your second (or third) car. They cayman could be your daily driver but it won't thrill you.
That's the reason I bought the Alfa ;)
My Cayman IS my daily driver, and it’s a thrill to drive every day! Plus it has as much luggage space as a small hatchback.
I didn't care for this car until now. Brilliant reviews on this channel.
My favourite modern car, along with The manual GT3.
I truly hope that Alpine sells as much of these as possible. Would love to see what they'd come up with in the future!
You’re welcome too👍🏻
What a cool alternative. Wish we could see these in the States.
Very nice review. Thank you from France.
what he forgot to say is that the alpine is as fast from 0 to 60 as the Porsche Cayman GT4 but costs £ 40K less !
and besides, what he thought was plastic is real carbon fiber available in two finishes (matte and gloss)
and if the sunvisors do not have covers and the speakers are so "cheap" it is to remove unnecessary weight...
He was wrong about the speakers. They are made by Focal a french loudspeaker company that makes some of the best speakers in the world. I suppose most people wont know that though.
Perfect car, perfect reviewer, perfect channel.
It’s for driving period!❤️🔥
Excellent review once again. A shame Alpine decided to benchmark Porsche on price (as well). The engineering in assembly, the materials specs and the versatility are just not par with Porsche's together with its gearbox and not to mention the brand's history, dealership network and mods parts supply chain. Here we have another brand making the same mistake as Lotus have done for donkey years: trying to be par on price with Porsche without being level on all attributes. Hats off anyway for a very well engineered chassis and an overall lightweight figure. Too expensive in my opinion and too restricted in what a customer can opt for which is another Porsche strong point
i got to test drive one of these today and god i love this thing. Yes it is expensive but i had a smile on my face the whole time.
Beautiful car and color… love it

The sound on this video doesn’t do justice to how awesome this car sound in the flesh, especially in sport mode.

Love the car, but hate the price. Even if you hate the TTRS you can't deny the performance you get for the same money: 2.5L 5-cylinder 400hp engine, 4 wheel drive, better fit and finish, plus rear seats.
Lots of comments on here are always about the car but I’d always like to see that Mat is a genuinely great host.
Since it's made by Renault maybe Nissan can use the chassis to make the next 240SX/Silvia or maybe some new sports car that's supposed to rival the BRZ.
James N not sure that renault would want’s to share their new baby
@James_N you are a genius I want to see that if nissan made a new sport car but I think that wouldn't be a Silvia because Silvia is only a name for S chassis after the S13
Just use this chassis for the next z. That way its not horrible in weight, not sure if a v6 could fit up front if the made this in a FR layout.
A mid engine 400z would be really cool though.
Wow, you pronounced « Renault » perfectly👌👍

Love the look of this car. I had an Airfix kit of the original 110 when I was a boy so I have something of a soft spot for the look.
Great video, my wife has Dacia Sandero 2015, the same switch for volume, mute, bluetooth...
Disappointing?? I own an Alfa Romeo 4C and it makes me smile every single day. It's a much better car than the Porsche 718 Cayman, which I also have driven, and I had to try hard not to fall asleep driving it.

Expensive and horrible interior
@@davideneco Sure, the interior is basic, but the driving experience is anything but. Which is what this car is all about. Which is what any sports car should be all about. If I wanted a nicer interior I would have bought a luxury car. A hand-made, carbon fiber and fiber glass super-car/sports car, that has the performance of cars with three times the price tag, is a burgeon. Lovely car
I’ve always wanted McLaren to make an entry level 4-cyl mid engine sports car. The Alpine is basically a McLaren 250S; lightweight with amazing handling but with a supple ride, very McLaren-like.
It's Alpine like. Alpine existed 11 years before McLaren did.
When ever I hear "quality plastic, I get measles
, since in few years that will become sticky, peeling off crap, that will deminish any resale value of the car it had. In my car I had fortune that it was black plastic under black paint at least I could rub it off all and it was just shiny "cheap" plastic that looked way better than before.
Absolute true. Well done, mate!
The external system is very accurate.

This car is still much more convenient that a lotus Elise 220 which is even more expansive
Expensive
@@emrefifty5281 😂
Great editing!
