Great video. Personally as someone who wasn't well versed in Hellboy, this film was promoted as another action comic book film along the lines of the Singer X men movies. The horror elements weren't very present in the movies. I think Ron Perlman was perfectly cast and the film looks great but something was missing. I think this movie was a victim of it's time, producers were scared of non mainstream comic book characters...hell they still are.

I like these and the reboot. But the animated movies were a perfect balance between del toro's movies and the comics.

Between Hellboy 2004 and Hellboy The Golden Army, I think Hellboy 2004 is my favorite, I know The Golden Army is a better film, but I prefer the dark, gritty, almost gothic aesthetic this movie has that kinda resembles the comic. Granted that this movie has flaws and not an accurate representation of the comic, this was my first introduction to Hellboy and is the big reason why I'm a big Hellboy fan of the comic as like so many others who weren't aware of the comic before.
I can't think of any other director who could have pulled off making a live action Hellboy at the time besides Guillermo del Toro and he was probably the only director who could do it.
Ron Perlman was born to play Hellboy, perfect casting. His look and some of his mannerisms were more comic accurate than David Harbor's Hellboy, plus his Right hand of Doom was more comic accurate than what the lazy and bland design we got in 2019. Out of respect for Ron Perlman, I use his voice everytime I read the comic. Overall this is a solid movie.
You should definitely checkout and review the two animated Hellboy movies, I think they are a more accurate representation of the comics in terms of characters, gone is the love relationship. Please do a video review on those

Yeah ima do those next, The golden army is the better film but you’re right the aesthetics that the first film had should have carried over to it which is why it turned me off when I saw the golden army, it didn’t feel like Hellboy? If that makes sense. But yeah I’m definitely gonna talk about the other animated films I got them on blu ray ! 😃

To be fair, I never read Hellboy, but I was a huge Neil Gaiman and Alan Moore fan since the mid-90s, so this mystical story was gonna be right up my alley, and I loved the vibe from the trailers.

@@RicJoJo thanks! and yeah its in that realm and the feel of this film definitely attracted everyone who was into that stuff back then. If you do want to check out a hellboy story definitely read the Wolves of St August, i always recommend it. Dark horse comics trades are expensive as hell though sometimes.

I'll definitely look for that, thanks. Also, I know at least one of you on here was at Awesome-Con a couple years ago, which was how I learned about this channel. Will either of you be returning this year?

Alright, 2 more things: 1. I hope you do make a video about how you would've approached the first film. That'd be cool.
      2. I definitely understand coming from a fandom and seeing how things are changed for a mass audience and being bummed about that, and thinking they weren't necessary. But from an outsiders perspective, I think it's easier for such an audience to believe that people would be afraid of someone who looked like Hellboy rather than take it in stride. A place that still looks more or less like 'our world' where someone like him was not a big deal would, I think, require a lot more explanation. It sucks, though. I hear you.
