It's been a few weeks since the last time I checked in with my company owner. Her daughter's move went well and she's all settled in, but I don't know if I should get back to her on discussing my approval yet. I don't know if there's anything else that needs to be done, and if there is something I don't know about, the last thing I want is to keep coming off as impatient. The other day I saw my company had posted an Instagram story tagging a mom's video of her daughter's Cinderella/Tiana party. I couldn't get a really good glimpse of the Cinderella performer, but I'm pretty sure I recognized her from some of my company's older posts and had just never met her in person. But I recognized the Tiana performer right away because we used to do theatre together. For reference, there's another girl we did shows with who has been a regular performer with this company for a couple years now, and every once and a while she'll refer a friend to the company owner to do 1-time parties (like I know she had one of our other theatre friends step in as Ariel once alongside her as Cinderella.). So my question is, was the Tiana performer an official new hire or was she just filling in for that one party? Because if we're planning on having her be a main part of the cast at some point, that means now would be an appropriate time to contact my boss about my own opportunities to perform. But if it was just a one-time thing, I don't want to keep emailing her and coming off as impatient every single time. What should I do?
Hi Grace! I would go ahead and email her and ask, or ask in person if you see her. I don’t think you should bring up this other performer you saw, just keep it between you and her. If it’s and email, you can say something like: Hi ____, Good morning/evening! I am checking in about performing opportunities at ____ company. I want to reiterate my interest and passion for performing. I would be happy to help out with a one-time party for scheduling needs or have a fitting to see if I suit your character needs.
