    Keep in mind: this application is when you're only using one mic which will be the case most of the time. There are two mic applications where you could use both of these mics and blend them to get the best of both worlds.

      As soon as hearing both side to side, that was exactly my thoughts. Blending them would give you such a nasty tone! Great video mate, just found the channel, definitely got a new subscriber!

    Thanks for making this video. Just always a little weird to hear people say "this mic is for guitars" or whatever. All mics are potentially for everything. Many of the microphones that today get used most of the time for a specific thing, were originally designed to be used for something completely different. Just want to pop in and remind some of your less experienced viewers that there are no rules, except if you havent tried it yourself, you dont really know! A reminder that most good condensers people love for vocals, also get used a ton out in front of a kick drum.. and it can absolutely go the other way... don't make the mistake of letting somebody else tell you what a microphone is good for. Use YOUR ears. Again, Thanks for making this video, lots of good info.

    If you are going direct and using a mic, then the direct signal will provide the lower-end information just fine and a normal guitar amp mic will provide potentially more interesting high end detail…. So having a mic that is designed for low-end only is not always necessary and often redundant if you are going direct also.

    Just recorded my Bass Amp for my Metal Project with a D112 at the woofer and an SM57 at the Horn. As Well as a Clean DI and an Sansamp. The Amp was a Ashdown Evo III (tube engaged) and a Markbass 410. Never had such an fat tone! Was using a Jazz Bass V.

    This demo is perfect, I don’t know if the picture is accurate, but if it is, then your using a hartke hydrive 4x10, which are the same cabs I would be mixing up and my personal choice

    I like the kick drum mic better overall. It sounded like it had alot more headroom and didn't have the same upper frequencies that bothered me in the e906

    Hey I hear a lot about the idea of using a kick drum mic for bass cabs but what about GUITAR cabs? Yay or nay? (10-string guitar)

    don't forget:: in general, bass amps have bassreflex ports and you are missing the real low end by micing only the speaker

    • @FrostByte_AC
      @FrostByte_AC  4 роки тому +1

      True. This would almost be like treating the bass amp like a kick drum and putting it in the port hole. Lol that sounds funny.

    • @audiomatters9523
      @audiomatters9523 3 роки тому +5

      @@FrostByte_AC you wouldn't need to. Bass frequencies that low tend to be quite omni directional, so you only have to be near the port to catch that sound, besides, sticking it right in front or inside the port, you're likely to pick up wind noise. Good video btw, I was looking at getting the AKG for bass amp recording, cheers.

    I got excited when I saw these two mics on the cab hoping for a sample of them blended together. Slightly disappointed there but other than that good video

    Low frequency is low frequency.. which means bigger mic diaphragm is better suited to pick those low frequencies up.

    Use the guitar mic and you will compete with the guitar and snare in the mix. So go for the mids if you are playing without guitar but in a mix it’s realllllly bad. 😎

    The e906 is a guitar mic,i would not use it for bass guitar...not low enough range...the 112 was designed for low frequencies the e906 is really a wider range mic more suited for guitarists imo...i use an AKG 112 for my bass rig...they go low & are bullet proof taking huge spl levels...i won't change my 112,i'm not a 10"speaker slapper...i'm a 15" bass player....the e906 are for the Marcus Miller's out their, piccolo bass...

    • @FrostByte_AC
      @FrostByte_AC  11 місяців тому +1

      The e906 placement is meant exactly for that, a guitar mic placed in front of a bass speaker. It's used in addition to the kick drum mic to almost accentuate the high frequencies on top of the naturally low ones picked up from the D112. For example, the plugin Amplitude allows you to use this famous 2 mic setup within the software. Historically, it has been the SM57 as the secondary guitar mic used in combination with the kick drum mic. It's just another mixed signal that can be thrown out if it's too much.

      @@FrostByte_AC ...i take it Amplitude phase aligns the mic's being 2 of them...i do something similar when recording ,an AKG 112 & normally a Neuman condenser mic set back in phase with the 112...i'll need to check out Amplitude...cheers

    You get to a gig and you should have a damn direct box... if you're miking your bass amp live, you are doing it wrong.

    Strange my AKG D112 goes from 20hz to 13k...-5db at 20khz...sharp & clear...i use the D112 with a Shure SM57 .....or a better quality condensor mic if in a studio
    ....i really like the D112 as it can take crazy volume levels...160db clean & undistorted, some people claim more...thats more than enough for me...the Shure SM57 used with the D112 is good quality for bass cabs & a fair price for 2 mic's...i agree in a studio you would probably be better to use the Sehnheiser unless you want a nice heavy, deeper bass tone.....
