It also works with RTSP security NVRs but it does require a connection to their cloud too. See more security cams: studio.ua-cam.com/users/playlistP... and subscribe! lon.tv/s

No offline mode is a deal-breaker for me. A summary of cameras that DON'T require the internet to operate may be a popular video. Thanks Lon!

I plan to use this for the back yard. Also for those of us who are concerned about Chinese surveillance, please watch the documentary called The Great Hack.

Can you recommend a similar camera that does not depend on the mfg to operate. I use several different brand cameras at my home but I can view them all using a android app
called tinyCam. I can also vew any of my cameras on a PC using firefox or chrome or programs like IP camera viewer. I have to open a port on my router and I use a free DDNS on my ASUS router so I never have to worry about my IP address changing. I try not to buy devices that rely on the mfg to connect to unless its a very reliable company. That company goes away
and you dead in the water. Remember what happened to the slingbox? I miss that box.

We really need to be cautious of cameras like this coming from these companies out of China

It's hard to trust even a UL listing these days. I was staying in a hotel recently, and the wrapper of the spare toilet paper roll had a UL listing on it. Yep, no thanks, I just utilised my own toilet paper for the duration.
It's just not worth the risk. I have good insurance but would prefer not to have the hassle of a burnt out shell of a house to deal with.

I agree with Bunch6835, plus having the servers in another country is a security risk!

Wyze already has an outdoor light fixture “extension” that lets one power their outdoor Wyze USB-powered camera via an outdoor light fixture (i.e. lightbulb fixture to USB).

Would this work in an indoor outlet like a lamp to give you inside camera security or putting the lamp in a window ?
This, for those who can't mount it outside like an apartment.

As long as you don't use the light or night mode it should be ok. These will reflect on the window and you will see nothing else. That is my experience with a camera I have inside, directly behind a window. The quality, even the window is tinted, is still ok for me.

Lon good thing is house voltage is not on your ham test it is 120 / 240 volts. Not hertz. 02:01

I am amazed at the number of sudo-technical people that call standard household power 110 volts. I was a little kid just learning about electricity when they made the transition to 120V.

I still think wyze camera is much safer cause anything Chinese based is questionable that camera phones home id recommend a sanitized network for something like this though

You said 120 240 Hertz outlets you ment to say 120 240 volt light sockets Edison base :)

Bought this camera and did not have a good experience with it. Tracking was unreliable. Playback was laggy and faulty. Limited recording time of 10 seconds (unless you pay for a cloud subscription).
After 2 months of unsatisfactory usage, suddenly the camera stopped functioning completely. Does not even power on.
No reason why that should have happened as it was installed stationary under a carport without any exposure to adverse weather.
I do not recommend this product. Mine is now in the dumpster headed to the local landfill.
