*EXTREME* MAKEUP DECLUTTER | Getting rid of my makeup collection cuz I'm ✨ overwhelmed ✨ MINIMALISM

  • Extreme makeup declutter. I finally decluttered about 80%-90% of my makeup. I tidied my space and it actually changed my life. Decluttering keeps your space clean. How to check if your makeup is still good.
    🌈 MORE DECLUTTERING INSPO:
    ‣ DECLUTTER MY APARTMENT: • DECLUTTER WITH ME (get...
    If you don't know/met me and wondering why do I have so much makeup... hi, I'm Anne. And my old channel was very beauty-focused and I had the opportunity to be social media beauty content creator at one point in my life. I am eternally grateful to have experienced different opportunities because of this and be gifted with the majority of these products you see in this video for consideration as part of brand/PR mailings. I recently had a change of heart and decided that I wanted to go back to my old corporate life. Since then, my relationship with makeup has drastically changed. All of the things became too much for one person to have. I realized that I don't even use 5% of the products that I have and they started to take over my space.
    I was pretty ruthless this time compared to the other countless times I've tried to declutter this room (in my previous channel). Even though I have been practicing minimalism for a few years now, I had a hard time keeping up with the incoming mail that was showing up in my doorstep. And since I was almost never home pre-pandemic, I was able to hide the clutter in the 2nd room that was once my beauty room. It was out of sight, out of mind. When the lockdown started and I started working from home, I was forced to deal with the clutter since I saw it every single day. Being at home the majority of the time, the excess stuff was making my space feel a little claustrophobic.
    Knowing that I will not be using any of these within the next few months with the pandemic restricting any sort of social activities, I only kept the ones I know I'll use within the next year. There was no point in keeping any backups. I got rid majority of my "makeup collection". It was hard letting some of them go because of the guilt/attachment I had. But I had to be kind myself and learn to gracefully let them go to make space physically and mentally.
    Since most of these products have been with me for several years and have long expired, I made sure to responsibly dispose of them by taking them to a SAFE/hazardous waste disposal center since I didn't just want to throw them in the trash. Some of the products I've received more recently, I was able to share with some of my friends or have given them to my friend who works at a hospital to see if anyone would be interested in them.
    I tried to be really conscious of the products I gave away. Even though most of them are unopened, I wouldn't want to give away anything that's past their shelf-life.
    Below are the two websites I used to check some of the products whenever I was unsure when I received the product. For the most part, I had kept an inventory in my Excel spreadsheet of the things that I've received in the mail as I got them. Yes, this is not a normal thing to do. And I honestly think that I'm the only one who did this. But helped me keep track of when I can toss them out. These websites have been a useful tool for me, but also please do try to use your discretion and best judgment as well.

    Great declutter. I agree that getting rid of stuff clears your mind too, I’m constantly decluttering, and then going back over areas and getting rid of a little more each time.

    This was the year I also got rid of most of my makeup. I kept maybe 2 of each one. 2 lipsticks, 2 foundations, 2 palettes etc. It was so hard to throw them away but it sure felt good afterwards.

      Wow, that’s amazing! That’s a nice minimal makeup stash. I can def understand how hard it is sometimes to let things go, but it does feel amazing to see all the freed up space that you gain from it. You also realize and appreciate that you don’t need much.

      @@AnneEdited let me tell you when I think about the amount of money I spent on the makeup I threw away it makes me sick. Next thing I’m doing is downsizing my designer purse collection. This is a lot harder to do especially my Chanel bags. I’ve let 5-6 bags go and not gonna lie but I was sad for a minute lol. But at the end of the day they’re only purses right?! Please do more videos like these. Makes me feel like I’m not alone 😆

    • @AnneEdited

      But imagine the extra cash you gained from selling your purses (I hope you sold them lol) to help with the sadness. Pick a your favorite Chanel bag to keep. I’m really glad that you found this video helpful, and good luck on your decluttering journey. Will share more decluttering videos cuz you are not alone especially with the struggles that come with it! I know sometimes it’s not easy, but it does feel good once you let go of any attachments to material things.

Also, thank you for educating us about these batch codes!! for the makeup!

      I was definitely nervous about posting this video (aside from the clutter anxiety of seeing my mess again lol), but I also realized that hopefully this will raise some awareness on the amount of things that get wasted that comes with sending products out. Hopefully, brands will be more intentional with PR mailers in the future and working with influencers in general. This whole decluttering exercise has also help me reevaluate other things I bring in to my life. Thank you for watching. Glad to know that you found my video helpful ☺️!!

    Great job Anne! Decluttering is a stress reliever for me (especially during quarantine) and I’m the same when it comes to recycling those boxes. I hope PR companies will stop and think about their packaging. That huge lip box was bothering me. Merry Christmas and can’t wait for more videos!

      Thank you, Julie! I have noticed that some brands are more aware about their packaging, but could still use some improvement. I agree with decluttering being a stress reliever. And it’s even better when you’re done cuz you also free up some space. Merry Christmas to you too 🎄✨.

    Love this!! It definitely was sad to see the unused and unopened makeup go straight to the trash, but your skin and someone else’s skin will thank you for this. It’s so nice to see a UA-camr/influence acknowledge how much PR they get and give it away/get rid of it in the right way. I know you are straying away from the beauty world/have been, but for any PR packages that you still get, how do you plan to approach those packages so you’re not having a lot of clutter again? Love to see your videos on how minimalism has really transformed your life :)

    • @AnneEdited
      @AnneEdited  3 роки тому +4

      Thank you, Vanessa! It was so hard for me to let the unused ones go straight to trash 😔. But there’s also no point of me keeping it and taking up space in my room. It was a hard lesson that I learned. I do hope that this will some how help raise awareness for brands to be more intentional when sending out PR to influencers. As far as PR packages, I rarely get them these days. They almost stopped coming when the pandemic started. But the ones that still do make their way, I keep the ones I know will use and offer the rest to my friend who works at the hospital to give to her nurse friends. I’ll def share a video on how minimalism has transformed my life. Thank you for the suggestion ☺️.

    Whoa, I use a spreadsheet too! It definitely makes the process longer to put away make-up, skincare, etc products but it's so much easier in the long run to know when I got the items, when their expiration date is and I feel like it's worked out really well for me since I started using a spreadsheet a couple of years ago! Another good tip I do is use my label maker and label each item so it'll be right in my face to use a specific lipstick before I use the brand new one I just got so that I'm doing my best to use up my products before they expire. Thank you for posting this! I definitely need to go back into my collection and declutter.

    • @AnneEdited
      @AnneEdited  3 роки тому +1

      Yay! A spreadsheet user ☺️. It’s def a good tool to use to keep track of things. It is a bit tedious to setup in the beginning, but once you get to maintaining it, it also helps see what you currently have in your stash and you’ll be able to reevaluate your stash. It’s also easier since you’ll be able to filter on the columns. I also implement the labeling method you mentioned, but I’ve only been good about doing it for my skincare products. Thank you for sharing and happy decluttering!

      I downsized my makeup collection a few years ago, I still have a larger than normal collection but not all over my room lol. I don’t track my makeup or log it, if I want it I buy it and use it. My makeup is a joy hobby for me a welcome distraction from stressful things..so I don’t want to track it and log it bc then it becomes less fun. I’m sure it’s different for her bc it is I guess a business for her.

    • @AnneEdited
      @AnneEdited  3 роки тому +1

      The logging in the spreadsheet is the relaxing part for me since I love working on Excel lol. But yep, there’s no need to track your makeup... just sharing some tool that I like to do/use to keep me organized. But it’s much more manageable for me now that I have downsized by a lot. Thank you for sharing that you found joy in a smaller collection of makeup and having it as a hobby ☺️.

    hey! i just discovered your channel...i feel the same guilt about letting the makeup go. But i found a solution for that! since i cringe at wasting products i decided to use my expired foundation /concealer with any coloured pigment coming from lipstick or eyeshadow or any coloured powder or cream : mix them and create paint! that way i can create paint (liquid lipsticks can work without foundation they work beautifully on their own =) )

    • @AnneEdited
      @AnneEdited  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you for this suggestion! This is also a good alternative for people who like to paint/create artwork. It’s been really hard for me to let most of these go because of the guilt of being wasteful, but I just had to accept that it’s already here and it just taught me to be more mindful about what I bring into my life.

    I thought expiration applied to opened products?

    • @AnneEdited
      @AnneEdited  3 роки тому +3

      Unopened products also have a shelf-life based on when they are manufactured. It might not necessarily mean they’re bad, but they might not be as effective if you use them way later. I also didn’t want to chance it either in case I get (or whoever gets the product) some sort of allergic reaction to it. I also think about it this way, when you buy milk, it normally has an expiration/best if used by date. The milk will still go bad/clumpy even though you didn’t open it all and it stayed in the fridge. I just applied the same idea with cosmetics since it goes into your skin or I technically eat it (with lipsticks).
      Personally for me, I don’t feel comfortable using anything that’s been sitting around for 2 years (opened or not). Once the product has been opened though, it does have a shorter life since you are introducing bacteria/air in to the product (ex. Mascara = 3 months, certain creams or liquids = 9 months). These are just guidelines that I use for myself especially since I was getting an influx of products sent to me and just sharing it. Use what works best for you. Hope this helped and it made sense 😅.

    Thank you for this - I have been watching makeup declutter for inspiration, getting ready to do my annual declutter. I have a small cache of makeup but I am also concerned about dried out or expired product mostly because I used to have a pro kit and held on to some of the palettes. It's been three years, though, so this is the year anything left from my pro kit gets tossed, no matter how much I loved it. I'm trying to scale down, too. In the end, it's just makeup and if you get a lot of free product sent to you what are you supposed to do?! You certainly cannot use it all.
