Used to live by there. Every now and then you would hear about someone breaking their neck cause the ground is literally where the waves are. Pretty cool to watch though!! Beautiful video!

.... When swell peaked at 5:00 am that morning.... coast guard reported a 30-35+, mavericks+teaupoo looking wave that was 2 miles off of HB cliffs, and had a barrel that width of a large motor home and a small car right next to each other....

In the Los Angeles area, is the Wedge the best place for a large south swell?
Just so you know it's generally referred to as the Orange County area and not "The OC" like some people say, it's like saying "Is Maverick's the best northwest swell spot in "Frisco"? The Los Angeles area has good south swell exposure and spots as does much of the Southern California coastline. I think the Wedge would have to rate up there as one of the best south swell spots. Just don't tell that to the bodysurfers who frequent there they are none to pleased with all the stand up surfers going out there. The secret is out, stand up surfers have been enjoying it for years! Cheers!
Ned Marr lol, and well im born and raised here, I call it OC... calling it OC is more like calling San Francisco San Disco.. depends the scene i guess.. 1503, 714, OC all recognized terms, though the 949 is gaining recognition from certain ethnicities. ha! love my OC the Orange Curtain..
also check out salt creek, if your looking for super fast.. Id say salt creek is closest to pipeline when it fires...

CAL DURING A BIG SOUTH SWELL ...THE JETTY CAUSES A "WEDGE" EFFECT FROM THE WATER "REBOUNDING" OFF THE BREAKWATER AND ANGLING BACK INTO THE MESH WITH THE NEXT INCOMING SWELL...IT IS REALLY AN AMAZING COMBINATION OF MERGING HYDROLOGICAL POWER.... axis4studios Interesting that a man made structure can improve the quality of the waves. I wonder what how the waves were like before the rock wall was built? Is it the water bouncing off the rock wall into the next incoming wave or is it the water running back from the beach into the previous wave making contact with the incoming wave that makes the perfect peak, if the timing is right?
