That little tremble in Joel's voice when he says "I'd like that" made me cry. Such a beautiful, poignant moment in a game filled with hatred and darkness.
And then he dies the next day. So neither of them got that chance. I think that's why Ellie is so disturbed at Joel's death. That she never got the chance to mend the relationship
I've been playing video games since getting hooked on Space Invaders in 1980. This is literally the first 'boss fight' I didn't want to win. And that's part of what elevated this game above all the others I've played. It takes traditional video game narrative and turns it on its head.
I'll be honest, now that i've read a bit about the ending, i actually consider it reasonably hopeful. It's been confirmed that the title screen after you finish the game is Abby and Lev's boat after they successfully made it to the fireflies, which i consider a win. Also, we know that Ellie is wearing Dina's bracelet again too. Whether that means they're back together or not doesn't really matter; she dragged her ass the 6+ week walk back to Jackson, injured and greiving, rather than go anywhere else, and that bracelet proves she's going to be there for JJ and Dina whether they get back together or not. Also, the fact that the journey to Santa Barbra and back would take 3months total, but the farmhouse looks almost exactly the same as in the previous farmhouse scene (no snow, ripe grain in the field) would suggest that it's been an entire year since Ellie left, which means she's been in Jackson at least 9 months before she goes back to the farmhouse. Why would she do that if she weren't planning on at least keeping an eye on Dina and JJ from a distance the way Joel did for her? Tommy's alive. Lev's alive. The fireflies are still out there. Yes on the face of it, the ending is bleak, and everyone has suffered *so* much, but there's hope to be found everywhere if you look.

When Abby said to Lev, "I got you." my mind flashed back to Joel carrying Ellie out of the hospital and it was at that point, the dam broke. I had to pause the game for like 5 minutes because I was just sobbing uncontrollably. Then Ellie has her (what turns out to be) final conversation with Joel and he says, "If somehow the Lord gave me a 2nd chance at that moment, I would do it all over again." was the 2nd time I was crying. So much happens in this game, I had completely forgotten about the significance the guitar Ellie plays at the end. It took a second playthrough before the emotional weight of Ellie leaving the guitar behind to fully hit me and again I started crying. Gawd, this game just emotionally wrecks you.
For me it was the flashback to teen Abby. I had her motivation spoiled for me so knew the whole time what we were walking into. Then she goes and tells her dad that she would want her head cut up to save the world and the fact we know Ellie would have wanted the same just kills. Then we watch her run into the OR, alarms blaring and see her collapsing to the floor at the sight of her dad's corpse. Then there's the flash forward to Joel being beaten to death. That sequence is a lot! I don't really cry easily at media. I get emotional of course but I was crying for a good half an hour afterwards. Good bloody job on that front, Naughty Dog!
When Ellie tries to play the guitar I believe it's symbolism for the path she chose just as Abby did and lost everything. Ellie lost the last thing connecting her to Joel, the ability which he taught her, to play the guitar.
When Ellie set the guitar down next to the window it was a sign of forgiveness. She forgave Joel for everything that happened and she’s letting him go.

I love Abby. She's been through a lot of shite just like Ellie. Both are great characters. Can't choose a side and can't ask them to be friends either. Waiting for TLoU part 3 or The First of Us part 1.
My heart broke for Abby and Lev when I found them on the pillars the first time I played. I had grown to really like and respect Abby and I felt she deserved so much better than what she got. But luckily Ellie spared her in the end and ended that cycle. I hope they come out with a third game where Abby and Lev are trying to find the fireflies and Ellie is trying to find Dina and JJ. Again, another thing showing how they are reflections of each other.

When the game made me play as Abby I really didn't like it, but she grew on me so much that by the time I went back to playing with Ellie I no longer wanted to kill her, you get to see the story from her side and helps you understand why she did what she did, at the end when they fight and Ellie lets Abby go I was relieved none of them died, but the end is heartbreaking nonetheless.
@CX VI well it's just different viewpoints all around. No one is gonna agree on everything and that's fine. They both lost everything because of the need for revenge. It's a sad story. I wish Joel didn't die. Hopefully they make a game with him and the 20 years right after the outbreak.
At the end when Ellie tells Joel that she won't be able to forgive him but that she would like to try, I find it one of the most poignant, sad and hard moments because we know that the next day Joel doesn’t 'is more...
I think that's where a whole new level of the game unlocks retrospectively. This whole time we have this idea that it's vengeance at the heart of Ellie's rage and violence. And sure, there it is looking at us as we play. But then in the end, we get this sudden reveal that maybe it's guilt. Guilt that she didn't forgive him. Guilt she didn't give him the love she wanted too, the validation she wanted to give him, guilt that he died and maybe he died unsure. I think that's a part of why she get's her finger bitten off and then we see her trying to play the guitar later too. Out of her guilt she rode vengeance to the point that she actually lost her ability to connect with the guy she couldn't forgive before he died. that's what broke me. That maybe this isn't just a story about why rage is bad and vengeance hurts everyone, and brutality is awful. But that also, guilt will eat us alive and hollow us out, drive us to feel and do things we don't deserve. That we shouldn't withhold forgiveness and love. or I'm over thinking lol

I already had a really tough time playing through that final Ellie/Abby fight. I can't even imagine how weird it must be to play through it when you have to brutally beat down your OWN FACE!
Your own face, furthermore, that already bares the signs of such suffering. For Abby to have lost that much muscle weight...it's harrowing to see her so physically diminished and inspiring to see her still able to carry Lev through it.
I remember Cascina was pretty freaked out at that "Abby, Abby, Abby..." Ellie chants in the end, and it's very eerie I must say "Leave Lev alone" "It's not worth it" "Poor all of them" yup, same feelings. I honestly felt as this time that I didn't want to fight, I never wanted them to fight, not even when Iwas still conflicted about Abby, it really is interesting how the game makes yuo do this and some of us are like "NOPE, I don't want this" But I can't help thinking how Ellie was just about to leave without fighting Abby, it's a pity she didn't do that, wish she has preserved her finger but she can still learn to play with the other side, not all is lost and I believe she can heal again, Abby too, she can heal again. Neither will ever be the same but Abby can recover, Ellie too. After a while I guess despite it all, I believe in them healing

My experience of the ending mirrors yours. There was several times where I just tried to stop attacking, but the game forces you to continue. I think I reached my limit well before the drowning bit. I'd definitely gone through Ellie's emotional journey with her - happiness - vengance - emptiness. Had to step outside after finishing it.
From the pillars to the flashback is so heartbreaking. When Ellie's alone with her back to us, I've seen footage from the front, still fully animated 💔 she looks so sad. I know you said that Ellie's hurt Dina to much. But when Ellie's back at the house, she has no guns, she's wearing Dina's bracelet. And doesn't seem surprised or upset that it's empty. Still curious about this. Anyway after all that heart ripping stuff I still found the very end positive, a new start. Thank you Jocelyn, it's been an honour to watch your playthrough. I think she was upset but unsurprised, she knew that Dina didn't want her to leave. So she left, turning her back on Dina's dream life. Elly isn't stupid, she knew what would happen. A single mother with a small baby on a relatively defenseless farm with livestock...that's clicker bait. Of course Dina was going to leave. Very sad, very human.

Ngl when i first played this game i caught on the bandwagon along with everyone else.. after having a few new life experiences and facing some serious demon's of my own i now have a new perspective on the things i spend time with.. i recently replayed this game with my newfound perspective and can now finally appreciate this game for what it is. A FUCKIN MASTERPIECE. What sucks is that it feels like things have to fall into place too perfectly for anybody to fully appreciate this artwork so only a few will ever understand and i also feel like it was done on purpose but now I can confidently say this game is far better than the first. This game is like god of war if it came out during ancient greece, it wasnt the right time and everyone got offended. Im jealous they put your face in the game. No other game left an impression on me like this one
I really hope that Naughty dog will eventually give us some type of dlc like they did with left behind, maybe a continuation of Lev an Abby after the end or their journey to Santa Barbara. Something/anything
The fight between Abby and Ellie tore to me pieces emotionally. I just didn't want any of them to die. I rarely get actual emotional in games, and this was one of the few times that actually got me. I honestly didn't expect to see myself love Abby as much as I did by the end, but I ended up loving her character as much as I loved Ellie and Joel. Her character was just as broken as Ellie's. Both of them deserved peace in the end.
I wanted ellie to die to be honest, it just made sense, she lost the fight. Abby was willing to kill a pregnant diana just to spite ellie, but then in a fraction of a second she changes her mind and decides to let her go seemingly for no reason other than the boy didnt want her to kill diana. Kinda bad writing but still a fun game.
My spicy take of Part II: the are actually two great twists in the story: 1. ... and suddenly, you have to play through half the game as the quote-unquote "main-villain" 2. ... that quote-unquote "main-villain" was actually Ellie EDIT: for typo

Just wanted to say real quick how amazing you were as Abby in the last of us video game, I really enjoyed your character honestly and begin to realize your character was my favorite after understanding the story. Sometimes the hero is a villian in someone else’s story, but overall such a phenomenal job! Amazing put together story and voice acting in the game.
The first time i played this game i stopped playing when joel died. Then i picked it up a year later i have since replayed it multiple times. I think certain things hit us differently at certain points in our life. Anyway glad i found this channel. God bless.
Enjoyed playing the game and jocelyn you rocked playing abby ive grown to love the charcter as i was playing at first i was like man she dont have no weapons but as her personality changed after saving lev. Loved it.
It took about 37 parts to get here, but we finally did it. Although I watched some of the streams live including the ending, I am going to miss these videos.

What a amazing gamplay ! This game is both incredible and sad. Tragic history of Ellie and Abby is heartbreaking and give a lot of thoughts. Is revenge a good option ? I think no and that game showed this. Revenge never brings peace. Only brings more pain and sadness. Abby proved that she is a good person. She did wrong killing Joel ofcourse but he very hurted her killing her dad. Not everyone have to like her but she deserve to be understanding. Thank you so much for great gamplay 😀!!! The ending is always gonna make me depressed, everything about it from Ellie having that lust to get revenge for joel and by Joel boats her remembering Joel and wanting to kill abby but not doing it makes it so sad. I really wish we get a 3rd game with Ellie actually being happy again for once and is with Dina and JJ and tommy and all them that are still alive
I flinched at every blow I landed in that fight. I love Abby so being forced to keep beating and slashing her when she was already starved and in pain was very unpleasant!

I honestly felt as this time that I didn't want to fight, I never wanted them to fight, not even when Iwas still conflicted about Abby, it really is interesting how the game makes yuo do this and some of us are like "NOPE, I don't want this"
But I can't help thinking how Ellie was just about to leave without fighting Abby, it's a pity she didn't do that, wish she has preserved her finger but she can still learn to play with the other side, not all is lost and I believe she can heal again, Abby too, she can heal again. Neither will ever be the same but Abby can recover, Ellie too. After a while I guess despite it all, I believe in them healing
Got delayed finishing this series, but I'm finally ready for the finale!

It took me 7 months to play the game again after i finished the first time and every time i see a gameplay it gets me like the first time
It took me 2 days lol. 20 hr straight binge. I didn’t feel great about it
That last scene on the porch, that is the most touching scene of all in TLOU2. Always tears me up.
This game is an example of how vengeance and hate can destroy a person.
Its so hard to watch that final fight let alone play it. And the ending always makes me cry.

Crazy that you used to be a naughty dog worker and then they approached you about being the face model. Did you have any idea this game would blow up so much? Love the series and game adaption, can't wait for the 3rd game.

No More Heroes both 1 was also about revenge and it did it better
Your gameplay as Ellie was fascinating, entertaining, and even kind of cathartic! I loved the "meta" experience of watching you, Abby, and Ellie all on the screen at the same time. I'm glad Naughty Dog took a chance and scanned you!
My experience of the ending mirrors yours. There was several times where I just tried to stop attacking, but the game forces you to continue. I think I reached my limit well before the drowning bit. I'd definitely gone through Ellie's emotional journey with her - happiness - vengance - emptiness. Had to step outside after finishing it.
And thats the beauty of this game. Not many games can make the player go through the kind of journey the last of us can make us feel and think...
My mind was telling me no I don’t want the two to fight but I’m like “I’m sorry I’m Ellie right now I have to”
From the pillars to the flashback is so heartbreaking. When Ellie's alone with her back to us, I've seen footage from the front, still fully animated 💔 she looks so sad.
I know you said that Ellie's hurt Dina to much. But when Ellie's back at the house, she has no guns, she's wearing Dina's bracelet. And doesn't seem surprised or upset that it's empty. Still curious about this.
Anyway after all that heart ripping stuff I still found the very end positive, a new start.

I think she was upset but unsurprised, she knew that Dina didn't want her to leave. So she left, turning her back on Dina's dream life. Elly isn't stupid, she knew what would happen.
A single mother with a small baby on a relatively defenseless farm with livestock...that's clicker bait. Of course Dina was going to leave. Very sad, very human.

This must be one of the best stories of this century, including books and movies.
Ngl when i first played this game i caught on the bandwagon along with everyone else.. after having a few new life experiences and facing some serious demon's of my own i now have a new perspective on the things i spend time with.. i recently replayed this game with my newfound perspective and can now finally appreciate this game for what it is. A FUCKIN MASTERPIECE. What sucks is that it feels like things have to fall into place too perfectly for anybody to fully appreciate this artwork so only a few will ever understand and i also feel like it was done on purpose but now I can confidently say this game is far better than the first. This game is like god of war if it came out during ancient greece, it wasnt the right time and everyone got offended. Im jealous they put your face in the game. No other game left an impression on me like this one
I really hope that Naughty dog will eventually give us some type of dlc like they did with left behind, maybe a continuation of Lev an Abby after the end or their journey to Santa Barbara. Something/anything

I’ll never forget ever
The fight between Abby and Ellie tore to me pieces emotionally. I just didn't want any of them to die. I rarely get actual emotional in games, and this was one of the few times that actually got me. I honestly didn't expect to see myself love Abby as much as I did by the end, but I ended up loving her character as much as I loved Ellie and Joel. Her character was just as broken as Ellie's. Both of them deserved peace in the end.
I wanted ellie to die to be honest, it just made sense, she lost the fight. Abby was willing to kill a pregnant diana just to spite ellie, but then in a fraction of a second she changes her mind and decides to let her go seemingly for no reason other than the boy didnt want her to kill diana. Kinda bad writing but still a fun game.

1. ... and suddenly, you have to play through half the game as the quote-unquote "main-villain"
2. ... that quote-unquote "main-villain" was actually Ellie

I agree on the animals death, even in films, a human character is something you may expect, but animals death hits me right in the gut, is too sad for me.
Hey jocelyn! Just wanted to say real quick how amazing you were as Abby in the last of us video game, I really enjoyed your character honestly and begin to realize your character was my favorite after understanding the story. Sometimes the hero is a villian in someone else’s story, but overall such a phenomenal job! Amazing put together story and voice acting in the game.
The Elle vs Abby final fight was so emotional to watch Jocelyn. But overall, this was an unbelievable play through to say the least.

The Rattler messing with the chained up Zombie sounds slightly like Steven Ogg to me for some reason.
The first time i played this game i stopped playing when joel died. Then i picked it up a year later i have since replayed it multiple times. I think certain things hit us differently at certain points in our life. Anyway glad i found this channel. God bless.

What a amazing gamplay ! This game is both incredible and sad. Tragic history of Ellie and Abby is heartbreaking and give a lot of thoughts. Is revenge a good option ? I think no and that game showed this. Revenge never brings peace. Only brings more pain and sadness. Abby proved that she is a good person. She did wrong killing Joel ofcourse but he very hurted her killing her dad. Not everyone have to like her but she deserve to be understanding. Thank you so much for great gamplay 😀!!! The ending is always gonna make me depressed, everything about it from Ellie having that lust to get revenge for joel and by Joel boats her remembering Joel and wanting to kill abby but not doing it makes it so sad. I really wish we get a 3rd game with Ellie actually being happy again for once and is with Dina and JJ and tommy and all them that are still alive
I flinched at every blow I landed in that fight. I love Abby so being forced to keep beating and slashing her when she was already starved and in pain was very unpleasant!
@25:29 i dont know how Abby manage to carry Lev & can fight w/ Ellie, she looks like Drained & Exhausted. Ellie too, pain & lost of blood makes u weak.

I don't think any other game has ever made me cry so much. The entire game was a crazy emotional rollercoaster. I know a lot of people hated this game but honestly, I think its a master piece. Truly.
