"Mary Poppins" is one of the greatest films ever made in the history of cinema! In my opinion, it should've won the Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Cinematography!

I thought I would have a chuckle or two while shaking my head during the viewing of this video.
Boy, was I wrong.... big time!
I am flabbergasted, humbled and deeply appreciative of your eye-opening assessment. Wonderful production and wonderful revelation, thank you.

I entirely agree that Mary Poppins is a wonderful and truly touching movie. It is one of those movies that is lighthearted and fluffy on the outside, but extremely emotional the deeper you go. Not to mention the outstanding music and acting. Of course its only one of my top favorite movies, more of a lotr fan myself. :)

Same here. LOTR are my favorite movies, although I would put Mary Poppins near the top.

My second-favourite film of all time. I saw it when I was six in 1964 and it set me up for life. At the moment I exited the cinema I said to myself, I am not going to be like Mr. Banks, like my father. I will never work late and my time will be focused on my children. Throughout my professional life I never left work after 5:30 and I never took work home. I worked in the financial services industry where this was practically unthinkable but it was a non-negotiable for me.
And besides being such a brilliant moral tale, the music, joy and wonderment of the movie has remained with me for six decades now. One of my cherished memories is playing it on video for my children from the flat we had at the time, which had a roof-top perspective over the city. It was magical again.

I’ve always found a lot of value in this movie. How elaborate the magical lessons are, and you wonder why she chose the mode she did to teach the children and how she teaches the parents in tandem.
We all need a Mary Poppins.

A good review with some very good points made. A better microphone would help a great deal. Also there is a missed opportunity there at the end. You should have named other movies that people consider to be the best but end with Mary Poppins.

It always flew over my head that she was there to save the father, not necessarily the children

Mary Poppins reunited the Banks family! The children got lost frequently and hated their nanny, Mr. Banks was fully focused on his job, and Mrs. Banks was fully focused on her suffragette movement. At the end of the film, the entire family is outside flying a kite. ❤️

I agree with your assessment until "Mary Poppins Returns" was made. This newer look at Mary is my pick for best movie ever. I am 81, and have seen a lot of movies, so I choose with some experience. The new film, as was the older one in its day, is the culmination of the best of movie making in all its aspects.

  • @maxi2310

A very good analysis; however, that proposition during the last few seconds: CHEEKY! :P
I doubt that the lack of a sequel is due to a lack of ideas on Disney's part. The more prominent problem will be the fact that P.L. Travers, author and inventor of Mary Poppins, was so displeased with Disney's adaptation of her work that she ruled out any further adaptations of the later Mary Poppins novels in her will. So sadly, until they find a way to somehow manoeuvre around that, there will be no Disney sequel in the foreseeable future.

    • @NickTierce
      @NickTierce  10 років тому

Thank you. I approached that proposition fully aware that Disney had developed various sequel concepts over the decades.
In fact, Travers herself co-wrote a film sequel screenplay with writer Brian Sibley in the 1980s.
The rights issues are not as clean cut (nor strictly as prohibitive) as the circulating rumors would have you believe.
