I was told that the sheath was, indeed Kydex when I bought mine. By the way, you can pass straps through the slots on the side of the sheath and attach a pistol magazine pouch to hold small gear like a Bic lighter, small fishing kit, mini flashlight, water purification tablets etc. Mine is made from 1095 steel, so it holds a decent edge. The new Warthog looks even better, so part of me wishes that I would have waited, but I didn't know that Kabar was going to re-design the knife. Either way, these are both serviceable knives.
This was Kabar's answer to the Top's Tom Brown Tracker 1 and it's awesome vs a $300 knife that is awkward and impossible to sharpen. I wonder if Swamp People use it skinning gators in Florida. MSK-1 Survivalist is $300 and its an exact copy of this Ka-Bar Warthog. MSK-1 came up with $150-$200 version and this a great suvivalist knive for $60.
If I could find an original warthog I would cut the back piece off the crossguard. I have the new heavy warthog totally different creature. I may just have to make a full tang version for myself
I had an original Warthog and gave it to my boss in 2002. Figuring on getting another one eventually. By the time I tried to find another, they had changed the style. Always regretted giving it away.
I lucked into a second one for $50 last year and snatched it up. It's way more beat up than my first one but still not too bad. Every now and then one might get thrown up on Amazon, I think that's how I got my second. And there's always Ebay.
@@bigghoss762 I stumbled upon a clone of the original Warthog in South America. It has Stainless stamped near the tang and that's it. I think it might be made for the tropical areas ? I won an Ebay auction and got the latest Warthog ( new ) for $28. Ka Bar should be forced to pay for me to upgrade to a ... 3/4 ton truck, now. Lol

But your right, I really like my BK-10 which I teamed up with my BK-9. Also a heavy work set.

Another great chopper is the off grid alpha dog

I love my BK-10
The 10 is awesome. The 7 kicks ass too. The 9 is king. You can't not have a BK9.
Me 2
imo i think the knife that best resembles the warthog is the Msk-1 but man that price to much for me really want one tho loo
The MSK does look more like it. The Ontario doesn't look much like the Warthog but it feels and balances like it and that's what I was looking for.
Cool
That gen2 warthog is way bigger and beefier!!!
I have one. It's a totally different knife from what I was looking for.
@@bigghoss762 I like the gen 2 better as a bob survival knife
