wow didn't expect the namedrop there! thanks for plugging my GTOs episode! this whiskey box set is high on my want list now, hoping we get an official release of all that film someday
Thank you for this video! I can tell you truly dive in when listening to an album! I just found out that you have a playlist with tons of Zappa related videos! Wow!!! By the way, I saw Dweezil and his talented musicians here in Michigan the other week. Sad about the bus breakdown, didn’t get the full show, but it was still legendary! I even got to talk with him. I asked him “how long do you rehearse for playing a whole album, example “Apostrophe”. He said “Well, we have played songs of the album in previous tours, but usually to focus on an album as whole, we rehearse for two month, six days a week, 10am to 6pm. Oh, for his sound check, he played Jimi Hendrix’s “Star Spangled Banner”! So impressive. I like how for extras during the set, he researched specific live versions that Frank did. He played one of my favorites: “Inca Roads”!!! Wow!!! It was like Christmas!
Dweezil is quite the gentleman and has a great band. I saw him the night before Royal Oak in Cleveland. There was a buzz in the online community about the continuing problems with tour transportation and a member of the crew having to leave due to a family emergency. I know you saw an abbreviated set(he would have played his whole show if there wasn't a curfew)but the delay made it possible for a lot of fans to get close up and personal with the Dweez. Thanks for watching and commenting! Coming up soon: The Apostrophe 50th anniversary Super Deluxe Box set review!
@@BillsBoxOfSound Yeah, he is quite the gentleman! I heard his podcast on the vinyl guide, he said he had to be careful of the weight for the trailer. He said there were certain instruments like the vibraphone that he can’t take on tour anymore. Also, where for like a six week tour bus expense (if I heard right, seems high) was $60k a couple years ago, now it’s $100k. So, yes, I got a shortened set, but I’m still extremely grateful that the show went on!
Looooved hearing the 3 sax players! Some songs like “king Kong” had Zappa’s guitar so loud it was hard to hear the saxes but I’m nitpicking. I just love LOVE hearing Bunk, Ian and Motorhead
BEST ALBUM OF THE SUMMER!!! I had this on repeat and even when I went to Mexico City with the wife (and bought Fred Frith’s Speechless vinyl) THIS Mothers live album was on REPEAT. On the plane, various Ubers, bus station, the shower etc…good new memories
We can always rely on Bill for a full, insightful, knowledgeable review, possibly the best Zappa reviewer on YT. I immediately ordered the cd set. Thanks Bill !
I just looove these early Mothers. Similar to the early Magic Band members, it fills my heart with HUGE PRIDE to know that they were native of Southern California (like me) and made some beautiful avant-garde music
Have you read Earth to Moon? Perhaps you saw Moon's interview on Ahmet's UA-cam channel, I think it's called Rocktails. Man, and pardon the pun, it freaked me out. I'll never stop loving FZ and his music but damn, the story she tells! Oh yeah, I agree with you, this set is pretty fantastic. Wasn't this the band featured on Ahead of Their Time? Thanks for your insights.
I'm about halfway through Moon's book, and yes, I saw her episode on Rocktails. Diva was on the following week. Yes, Ahead Of Their Time was the same band.
Today at the record store I purchased Whiskey a Go Go, 1968 3 CD edition, and a digitally remastered vinyl pressing of Sheik Yerbuti issued by EMI. I also put in a pre-order for the 50th Anniversary CD Box Set of Apostrophe(‘). From what I understand this box set includes the original 1974 Quad mix, on the included BluRay disc. I loved the quad mixes included on Waka / Wazoo and Over-nite Sensation boxes, so more four channel Zappa can't be a bad thing.
Excellent video Bill. I bought this as a pre order, as Ive been doing with thelast few Zappa boxes-man, they know how to get us by the short and cueleys dont they? and I enjoyed this set. I must admit that being a (very) amatuer musician myself, I respect all of these early Mothers recording and their historical significance, but i still sometimes get a little bored by the music or a "I guess you had to be there" feeling....but overall, considering the tiny space that the band was made to set up in, they do indeed play all the music quite well-sometimes even in tune! Again, a fine review by you and I , as always, look forward to many more reviews of the Masters catalog.

It still makes me so happy that you are on the Zappacast.

Every human being with a PULSE that breathes O2 and exhales CO2 MUST OWN THE BIH ALBUM FROM SPUDLOK💜💙❤️. Some great Ween-esque stuff
Very well done

Nice job, Bill!
Thanks!
It should be mentioned that Tiny Sick Tears is, in at least a minor way, a spoof of 96 Tears by ? and The Mysterians.
I spy a beautiful 10cc box set 😉😉🤣
Hi Bill,
I assumethat thge total music on the 3 cd version is the same as on te 5 lp box set ? Thanks Merci
@@marcpatrickbehar5098 Correct! Thanks for watching.
Hi Bill, why you didn't made review on Zappa's Over-nite sensation 50th anniversary releases? or did I miss something?
It will not be released until September 13th. Chill out, I'll review it!
