This is great! I'm gonna check out the other videos you have up! I tried to dig through the archives and it's really exciting how much stuff there is but I can't find the jazz profiles or almost any of the interviews from the video. I can see a lot of it on the UNT finding aids but I can't find a lot of these interviews beyond seeing there documentation. Anyway these videos are great and I would really like to have more of each interview.
Thanks for the note - and please check back with us. We'll be launching more Jazz Profiles shows in the future.
Legend. The greatest ever
Turrentine - the king of so-so jazz. No matter how elegantly fancy Miss Nancy tries to elevate his "significance". The only reazon he could continue on BN 4 so long, is, that he sold a lot and the Animal Bros needed the turnover to be able to make the innovators, such as Andrew Hill, to flourish. Soul jazz is just soul jazz, not real jazz. Innovation is what truly counts. Jazz funk was virtually a subgenre of disco. Ask Joe Sample, 4 1 ...
It’s unfortunate NPR is a liberal spewing arm of the Democrat party. Anti-Trump, anti-Conservative, anti-Christ. Now that I got that out of my system. I used to donate to the KLCC in Eugene for their multi-hour blues program. No longer - they’ve done away with it and I can no longer stand their liberal activities. How they are supported with my tax dollars when they spew so much hate is awkward and wrong. I am a tenor sax player and I appreciate Stanley and many other great tenor players - and there are many.
That was a great look at the Great! Thanks for sharing!!
Incredible!
29 viewers slash listeners and not one 'like'. This is why this Great Music is forgotten. A Genuine Shame... I see MJQ, I immediately prick up my ears and listen.
Fact.
I remember vividly when I heard Bill Evans passed. I was in my tiny 4x6 cubicle in grad school. It was announced by the jazz station WMOT on the little transistor radio my parents had given me as a college bound gift. It was a sucker punch. I was shaken by the news. His music meant the world to me as a foreign student here in the states. There was no Bill Evans where I came from. Only the old greats like Ellington, Peterson. When I heard Evans' sound, it was a revelation. My aural palette is perhaps much larger now but I will always remember Evans who first revealed a new kind of beauty to me.
