How to Memorize Song Lyrics
Переглядів 39Рік тому
This is a process to reliably remember song lyrics. It is designed for the performing musician, but can certainly have other uses. Personally, I find reading lyrics while singing to be very distracting, especially when having to focus on playing guitar and/or lead the band through changes. Once I start relying on a tablet or a sheet of paper, it's one extra thing that is going through my head w...

I really love the Model 24 as the workhorse of my studio. It has a lot of flexibility in the way that it can capture tracks, and also makes it very easy to dial in a full-band headphone mix.

Performing "Lone Soul", a song from the CD First In Line, live in the Studio.
How long can you record for could you record a 45 minute set for a band?
You never see tracks 11 and 12 unless you go to the swap tracks option in the MTR. You can bring all your recorded mix back into 9 and 10 to fee up all the tracks gain. Once I located 11 and 12, it started to make sense.
10:00 Don't just take notes......HIT MARK (F4 button) so you can skip back to these point in a heartbeat/ with a click of a button.
6:19 And for a starter, set your gains at zero, the way they're set now, they're at Minus 10 dB (Like if on other mixers the "pad" button is set to on....). Around 11 O'clock is zero....
1:58 Small correction...MTR ia an acronym for "MultiTrackRecording", not "monitor"....
Yes this is the best information on this device we have seen. Could you possibly record another one and mount your camera to keep the picture still? Very helpful information!
Is it possible to print the EQ and compression on the tracks as they record. It seems strange that it would not have that option.
Compressor is printed but not the EQ. The new 2400 has a switch that allows you to toggle if you want to print EQ/Comp or not.
why my effect are not working in control room monitors. everything I have checked it many time, effect only coming through monitor1 aux and monitor aux
question : When I turn on control room knob- a noisy cloudy kind irritating sounds comes, what is it? I am not playing any audio, even not plugging any mic, but irritating sound comes? Question 2 - faders in or out is not affecting or controlling inputs. I have to press pfl to listen to.
Does the individual track compressor get recorded usb to DAW? And is this correct, No talk back?
The EQ doesn't get tracked????? Can you set it so it gets tracked?
Great video man, for example I have the mic plugged into channel 1 recorded unto that channel, but now I want to rec another vocal track on channel 2, how do you assign to channel 2, I couldn't figure that out , I had to plug out the mic out of 1 to 2 to get the signal, on my tascam dp-008ex I could jus assign where I want to record to any channel, Can you Help, thanks man
Have have you used the 24 with a DAW? Myself, I'm just now learning about DAWs.
Excellent. Double good as i have an SP404mk2 on my sub, so the possibilities are endless. Thanks for this video. Just what I needed mid-jam session :D
If channels (let's say channels 3,4,5,6,7 & 8) are set to Bus for drums or something, and recording a live event - are the channels still recorded separately on the SD card? Also, do both the Main and Bus buttons need to be 'down' or just bus for channels, and then main for Bus strip? Planning on buying one of these and doing as much research as I can. Please and thank you.
Yes, this is exactly how i use it live. It will still record if the channel is only selected for Bus.
This machine is perfect for smal bands. If you`ve the tascam prepared and a new song is ready to roll, nothing stands in the way. The tascam is very easy to handle, no menu-diving, etc. What you see is what you get. This board can fulfill more than just one job. And anorher whole world opens up when you connect the device to a computer (DAW)..... Have fun!
can you record on the SD card at same time as its going into the computer over multitrack usb ? Also are the one knob compressors good enough, are they noisy or elevate noise too much ? (Also Thankyou for your infomative review)
Good straight forward video. I just got a Tascam Model 12 yesterday. It didn't come with an SD card so I had to format a new one. Something newbies like me should know. Also, after creating a new song and saving it, you have to go out back to the screen where you see the time line before you can start recording. Otherwise, like me, you'll be pressing the record button and wondering why nothing's happening. 😅
Really😮👍 🇬🇧
Could I record say a bass to track one on the SD card. Then record a guitar on track 2 of the SD card while hearing the bass track I previously recorded to track 1? Can this mixer simultaneously play and record different tracks from the SD card? Thanks.
Yes it can. To listen to the track you previously recorded, slide the switch on that channel to MTR.
@@richrussman Cool! Thanks!
Is it possible record entire song without using Pc?For example rap song how put beat into it?
Send audio via USB or just talk to DAW?
I. Wont one of them can you mono in on all the tracks ii hope .the Stereo track part gets on my nerves its like give us all the tracks if you wont Stereo then use 2 tracks lol.
This records all channels separately so we can mix each channel separately yeah?
Yes that is correct.
Finally, someone who actually explained it step by step without assuming we know a whole bunch of other shit beforehand. Literally the only helpful video I found out of like 10 other ones I watched, which is honestly ridiculous. THANK YOU
Thanks, that is great to hear!
How is the build quality of this mixed. Is it as sturdy as AH ZED's??
Yes, very well built!
Great video, starts from the beginning, explains the basics to get started recording. The only video I found useful.
Thanks so much!
Thanks!
great video! thanks so much.
How do you set up all the tracks on Cubase
What kind of mic are you using on you vocal?
That's a Shure SM7B
thank you @@richrussman
This is probably one of the best tutorials on UA-cam
I think the same.
Definitely 🇬🇧 🏆 needed basic knowledge..not 🧇 waffle 🇺🇸 🌎 .
After you record on the SD card can you print the tracks into your DAW?
Here is another good setup scenario- if you have some outboard gear- in my case I do- hardware reverbs and other processing. Use fx out-Jack -mono send-disable internal effects- fx out Jack goes to your headphones distribution amp- I use a beringhear-and use a hardware reverb for it for talent-then I use Mon-1 and 2- sends to feed a stereo hardware effect chain in my case I run in series to a compressor-a saturation and widening unit and then into an aphex model 204-and return the stereo feed to channel 19/20-set to live input for a parallel type mix. For my hardware reverb send I use the ‘sub-out’ on a per channel need-engage it on any track you want hardware reverb-it sends to the stereo sub out fader and jacks-I use the Bluetooth channel as the reverb return. Any Mix of verb to dry can be done on the reverb unit itself. In my case I have 3 hardware reverbs- I run the stereo out to (2) passive splitters 2 in 4 out by galaxy audio-39 bucks each-then feed each hardware reverbs inputs separately-at the split- the re combine them to stereo for the return to Tascam using a Radial KeyLargo keyboard mixer-this way you have control of each reverbs volume- to create a dense exciting multiple reverb stereo return or turn any of them out of the mix. To taste, It only eats up 2 stereo returns leaving 18 open tracks 12 mono-3 stereo-which in a traditional situation w/ perhaps some ‘bouncing of tracks’ should be plenty. Hell most hit records pre 1980 were 16 to 24 tracks period-and 8 track in the early 70’s and backwards. Any outboard gear can be used-it’s the -routing- I have that makes the Tascam Model 24 in my case very usable and flexible as a standalone mix-record setup- In my case I have an RME BabyFace Pro FS-interface and an iPad Pro-I run my Mains Outs to the BabyFace as my two track master mix recorder so I do all final mastering inside an pad daw-I use Auria Pro with some plugins for sweetening as needed-if needed-and then export via audio share app to Postive Grids Final Touch App. Then save that mix in my desired format via that app.
Hi, a newbie…my question is would a patchbay be necessary or is there some benefit using a patchbay with the model 24? Or is the model 24 the patchbay?
Excellent unit. Only wish it allowed to save every setting (data) like the old Roland 2480HD did .
Why AUX1 for the floor monitor and not SUB?
I wonder if it sounds close to the [original Woodinville] Mackie 1604s? Those things were quiet and CLEAN. Fantastic sounding.
When you said the compressor and EQ is not tracked, do you mean the files to the SD do not have any EQ or compressor on the tracks? What if you wanted those effects on your mix on the SD or computer, not possible?
I’m new to this and wondering the same thing
Those are not recorded on the individual tracks “but” whatever you have set for the mix should be recorded to the SD when you export a master track.
I read somewhere that the setting can be changed to record pre-eq, post eq, and a couple other options. I do not own one yet so I can't confirm.
I’ve watched several vids here and on Sweetwater but haven’t seen the track level meters. Are there ones lol?
in the display window, you can select a meter view for the tracks
@@richrussman Thanks!
superb thank you, Tony New Zealand
Glad you enjoyed it
What SD card type/size does it take? Does it come with one?
From what I remember, it did not come with one. It supports -> SD (512MB to 2GB), SDHC (4GB to 32GB), SDXC (64GB to 512GB), Class 10 or higher required.
Justtgot my model 12 Thanks for helping to get started!
Congratulations, I hope you enjoy it!
Went through 4 of these trying to get a functional unit. One arrived damaged, 3 arrived with faulty pots and leds. 1 from Amazon, one purchased in person, 2 direct from Tascam. Too bad, there's nothing like it as far as design (SSL comes close but doesn't have the channel count). Tascam used to be the gold standard, no longer.
That is some terrible luck. I own all 3 of the Model series mixers and they all arrived in great shape.
Who did you order from? @@richrussman
Subscribed thanks for the review
Awesome, thank you!
Rich, great video. I like your tactic of running the external mic pres into each channel strip line input with use of a xlr to trs patch cable. Do you think that would work with other outboard gear, for example an outboard compressor, thus eliminating the need to use the inserts on channel 1-2? Effectively allowing outboard gear to run on each channel. Thanks for the video!
If I understand you correctly, I guess you mean on any given channel, you could run signal_source-->external_mic_pre-->compressor-->M24.. Sure that'd work fine. BTW, I really do love the onboard mic-pre's. I already had owned the APIs, so I figured I might as well use them. They do sound great.
@@richrussman Thanks Rich for the replay! thats a huge help and ill give it a shot. i do agree though I quite like the model 24 pres as well for what they are.
Great video, interesting comments, brought up my following question: Owning a Model 24 myself I noticed some input noise with sensitive mics ( Austrian Audio OC-818, AKG C-214) and therefore would love to have your set-up with those API mic pres, if the Model 24 input noise could be eliminated that way. Does it? I mean, is the mic signal noise-free in your set-up through the API‘s? Or is it a Model 24 thing to get some analog noise, no matter what input source you select? Thanks
@@jorgwasow4134I'm a little late to this party but the Model 24 itself is a clean signal. I have had this unit for 4 years. The gain knobs (preamps) on the model 24 can introduce some noise on sensitive microphones that need a lot of gain. The preamps are ok for strong signals. But let's face it for $1,000 you're not getting great preamps. I'm using a Neumann u-87 into a Neve 5017 preamp into the M24 for vocals and most if not all my instruments are running into a warm audio 273 stereo preamp. I am getting a wonderful warm articulate clean signal on my vocal chain my drums and instruments through the wa273 are Punchy and tight and add harmonic undertones that cannot be had on the pres built into the M24. I agree you can get a good recording on the M24 all by itself I have a few microphones including a c214 and sm7b etc, but my life changed when I got a Neumann u87 and a neve 5017 preamp.
Great video! I use the M24 as a mixer into my DP32. Love the set-up. If you’d like to hear the result- Neutral Earth- Current Volts and Ohms is available here on UA-cam.
That's an interesting setup as well, thanks!
I have a DP32 that I use and love too. Can you expand on how you use them both together for me? GAS has me in her grip, and I'm looking at the Model 16 or 24.
@@marksvideochannel3592 As stated I basically use the M24 as a mixer into the DP32. I find it’s easier to fade songs both in & out. The M24 EFXs are easier to use than those of the DP32.
Hit send prematurely. The M24 EFXs are different but better IMO. I have recorded full songs on the M24 and transferred them track by track to the DP32. I do tons of cut and pasting of tracks on the DP32, so I don’t want minimize its importance in my recording process. I record with a good friend under the moniker “Neutral Earth”. We live in different states, and exchange SD cards from each other’s DP32s. A good example of a song we did using my M24 and our DP32s is the song- Blue Leech on our UA-cam CD- Current, Volts & Ohms. Give it a listen. It utilizes the M24 EFXs to good use. Interesting panning, etc.
@@twelveouncetrance4034 I'll check out the song very soon. Thank you for the great description, I understand now why you have the Model 24 but I'm not sure you explained why you retained the DP32 though, what does this bring that the Model 24 doesn't...apart from more tracks :) Perhaps compatibility with your friend? To clarify, I thought the Model 24 would replace my DP32 so am intrigued that you use both, i'd like to keep both but am not sure what the advantages might be..? EDIT: after rereading your comment I see you mention cut and paste on the DP32. Does the model 24 lack in this area?
I noticed you said the Model 24 preamps sound great, but of course there are api pres on the front end going in haha😅. I thought about getting one of these, but I ended up choosing different that sounds good enough to not need outboard pres or EQ if I didn’t want to
I don't use the APIs on every channel, and I would not hesitate to use the Tascam pre's for everything. It just happens that I had already owned the APIs before I got this unit.
Why can’t I hear my microphone through the speakers? I have the speakers connected to the main output and my microphone on channel one. Everything is turned on but I still don’t get any sound.
Do you hear anything if you plug your headphones into the headphone jack? If not, then check that you have an input signal (green light) when you speak into the mic. And also make sure the little switch for the channel is all the way to the left. If you do hear signal from your headphones, then make sure you're using powered speakers, they are on, and your channel and master faders are up. Hope this helps.
@@richrussman yeah I am not using headphones I am using speakers
@@pachukomusic4338 I understand. Just trying to help you troubleshoot.
@@richrussman ok thanks
I see on your tape, you have OH on 13/14? Do you typically run your overheads into one stereo channel?
Excellent question. Im running each overhead mic into an API mic pre, and then going into the L and R of the stereo channel. Doing the same for the 2 Toms. Its a good way to maximize channel usage.
This unit rules, live off the floor jams sound lovely
No doubt! What else could we wish for. Maybe 192k and per-channel sends?
