How so? Is it sad because it wasn't played well (I'm a beginner, only playing for a year and a half) or is it sad as in the tune itself is melancholy?

OMG I totally get it - I still have mountain dulcimers, banjos, bowed psalterys, violas, cellos, trombones, trumpets, accordions, clarinets, oboes, silver flutes, ocarinas and a dozen other instruments in our music room just waiting to be played... but I need to nail down fiddle first :)

Yes! and thank you for the suggestions - I know I always lean toward using mostly the top of my bow (this is actually a lot more bow than I normally use haha). I've only been playing about a year and a half and I'm self taught so I'm just enjoying the journey... <3 I appreciate any tips!

@@modelenginerding6996 I love this little fiddle so much. And we never decided to fix it because the Luther checked it out and said whatever they used on it is solid and it's going hold. I play the heck out of this old fiddle and it brings me so much joy. It stays in tune so well. It fits like perfection in my arms.

@@thejenfo Yes, keep on! Perhaps I should post my beginner guitar playing. I guess that is a metronome you play along with - it adds a nice beat like a drum.

@@dimwitsadvocate6264 it's actually an app called Strum Machine. It works as a back up guitarist for my beginner fiddling.

@@dimwitsadvocate6264 yes, and I have my phone playing it on an external bluetooth speaker. You can play songs they already have in their library, or you can make your own songs. You can even edit songs in the library if you want different chords at different times. It also will repeat the song as many (or as few) times as you like. You can change the speed/tempo. There is even a feather which will automatically speed up the song by however many beats per minute (BPM) you like each round so you can learn to play faster. It was worth the purchase for us. Hope you have fun with it!

@@thejenfo I've always wondered how anyone can play a fiddle when it has no frets like a guitar or mandolin.

@@dimwitsadvocate6264 it's pretty tough compared to my Ukulele. My intonation is not perfect but since I've only been playing a year and a half, I figure it will come in time.

That's very kind of you - I try to pay close attention to my intonation. Of course, I can still hear little flats and sharps here and there. I think this was an easier song for me to figure out by ear than some others. I'm trying to teach myself a new song each day. This was yesterday's effort :)
