Well your reading this apparently. Didn’t even know people still read these. Anyways, this is my channel. On this channel I do overviews of mostly US and British Gas masks or other related CBR equipment from WWII-1st Gulf War. Mostly on the M17 series due to myself placing most of my research on the M17 series. I do look into other things from time to time.
How about a quick Q&A as well.
Q: Will you buy X mask and review it? A: probably not unless it’s a US mask of historical significance.
Q: you made X mistake in one of your older videos. A: I know, I didn’t know anything back then. Maybe I’ll redo them someday.
Q: That filter has asbestos be careful/Don’t wear it it contains asbestos. A: I am well aware of what masks I own have asbestos filters. I shall wear them when I please. (W&S93s GP-5 filters are dangerous is BS.)
Q: How do you store your gas masks? A: I store them in a cool dry environment away from sunlight where my masks can lie out in a relaxed position.
Guten Tag Ihnen!

Early Vietnam (1962-63) ABC-M17 Protective Mask Kit (M17 Gas Mask)
Sick setup! I know I’ve asked a lot of questions on your channel here lately, but I have another one. It regards the m13 filtering elements for the m17 masks. How long were they supposed to last in a CBRN environment? And if sealed, would they still be somewhat viable today? And one more question regarding the m6a2 hood. When they were issued were they to be attached to the face piece constantly or only when needed? I’ve seen pictures of marines training with the hood not being used. I’ve also spoke with a marine that said he never had the hood.
So when these were issued, were they meant to always be attached to the mask or only when authorized?
@@NureinFeigling The original M6 hood was first introduced in around 1962. But it was a special purpose only thing. It was only authorized and issued by a chemical officer of a platoon if the mission required them. Most people wouldn't have one early on. It was around 1972-73 that the hoods became a standard issue item for every soldier. So you didn't see them much prior to the early 70s.
Little off topic comment here, I don’t know if you’re open to video requests but if you are, could you make a video on how the m17 mask should fit your face? I’ve never found much clarity on this topic other than the m17 fit and drill film, which didn’t help much. I’ve got an m17a1 and it’s loose in the chin area so I’m wondering if I should go to size small. For it to seal properly, I have to have the straps so tight I can’t properly don the mask, instead I have to loosen them and then tighten them when I have the face piece on which wears down the straps rather quickly.
@@NureinFeigling I very well could! I have quite a few M17 manuals that go in depth into the sizing procedures for the mask. So I definitely could do it for a future video.
@@gl883 sounds good! If you don’t mind me asking, what are the names of those manuals? I’m a big fan of the m17 and would like to collect some accessories for my masks
@@NureinFeigling The earliest ones were TM 3-4240-202-15. There's a 1959, 1962, 1968, and 1971 edition of those. The 1968 and 71 editions have two different kinds for the ABC-M17 and M17A1. I forget exactly what the M17A1 version is called TM wise as I don't own any. The later ones were TM 3-4240-279-10(or 20). 10 being the small handheld individual issued manuals and 20 being the big depot maintenance versions. There's a 1975, 1983, and 1987 version of those manuals. And there are also many little document changes that occurred to the manuals over the years, but it's harder to track those down.
@@gl883 thanks! I’m may pick one up on eBay or something. Again thanks for the help!
been trying to find some info on what all would be carried with it and how it should be packed, any info you can give?
@@thetroodon9482 My apologies for not getting back to you at an orderly fashion. If you still are looking for this information, I do actually know how the mask would be properly carried. I have a technical manual from the late 50s on how to properly pack and carry the M9. I probably should do a quick video on that soon lol.
Just got an early war m17 mask. Manufactured by D.T.
Meu sonho ter essa máscara me dá ela de presente por favor
Have two of the PMK-3's. That are complete down to the plastic and cardboard dunnage. That is packed inside of the mask. There is also an emergency respirator. That is part of the kit. There is also a "Nomex" fire hood in there. In the same camo as the carrier. These masks were bring backs. I have the original canteen tubes as well. Have just converted them to use US canteens. These kits were new and unissued when I acquired them.

Everyone loves an M40 unless you're stuck in Iraq for 3 months ducking SCUDs and dodging sandstorms like my old man. Just put out a new vid on mine and others about an hour ago, ironically.
Finally someone who actually knows what they’re talking about! The pmk is a relatively good mask! Weapons and bullsh** 93 gave this mask and many others bad reps.
This channel is hecka underrated
Honestly the more and more I look back at w&s93’s m17 videos and his gp-5 filter crap the more I realize how much sh#$ he’s filled with
I found one of these for sale locally. Would there be any respiratory danger in using it for cosplay?
No you should be fine. The pads used in the mask are just of a tightly woven cotton felt like material. Worst thing that could be is the pad is clogged with dust. These were just dust respirators so there aren't really any dangers with the filters. They weren't designed to filter any major particulates so they wouldn't have anything like asbestos or such in the particulate pads.
Also killer 8 track radio on your shelf! What brand is it? The orange tube lights are gorgeous
Killer video! You've got some good content! A shame you never gained too much traction. Hope you are having a good 2024
awesome collection
After I got mine awhile back, I ordered the 60mm to 40mm conversion kit so I could fit the NATO filter on it. It's practically a new mask with that, making it practically usable.
I have a 2013 where can I get cartridge
I have a near mint one stamped MSA 63. Aside from slight yellowing on the lenses, and likely storage deformation the rubber is perfect.
Yo sick I got one for 10$ off facebook. Looking at history
where i can buy it ?
I have one
@@javiermeza6436 where did you get it
Im using this for my gas mask. I prefer it to my Blackhawk carrier.
I can see why these are pretty nifty carriers lol. Also what you running for a mask?
@@gl883 i currently own an MSA Advantage 1000. I dont like the blackhawk carrier for it rides too low on tbe thigh. This old school gas mask pouch rides higher right below the waist level
What kind of cover were you wearing on ur m1?
Its just a regular old vietnam era mitchell cover. Except I have mine reversed to the brown side instead of the green side on my helmet.
@gl883 ohh yeah I forgot they existed
The PDE-1 was first introduced in 1983. Also an interesting fact is that the shoulder strap is a seatbelt. They must have had extra material so they decided to use the spare seatbelts for the mask carriers. The decontamination kit and disposable chemical suit(looks very similar to the Czechoslovakian JP-75) go in the other side pocket. I collect primarily 70s and 80s militaria(NATO, Pact & everyone else) so if you ever have any questions I'm always happy to help!
I was actually thinking to myself that the strap seemed a lot like a seatbelt! Thats really neat! Was that with just these particular carriers with the dark green straps like mine? Also thanks for the content dump! Pretty neat to know my mask is a relatively early one!
@@gl883 As far as I know only the PDE-1 Bags have the seat belt straps
I have recently stumbled upon some updated info recently on these carriers so I am going to pin this comment for people to see this new info. First off, The original lots of M15 carriers dated 1960-around 61/62 will have a different shoulder strap design. The little strap that the D-ring is looped through is sewn facing towards the back of the carrier on the original carrier lots. They changed this relatively quickly and all the slighly newer carrier lots were made with that strap facing away from the carrier. You can see my 1st pattern carrier has such strap sewn towards the back of the carrier at 3:19 in the video. and all my other carriers for example my 2nd pattern at 6:45 has it sewn away from the carrier like most are. It turns out even 1st patterns can have the updated strap design so if your looking for the OG 1959-61ish carriers make sure to look out for that. Secondly, The ABC-M17 marked M15 carriers may have appeared earlier on then I initially thought. The name of the M-17 was changed on Oct 21st 1963 to ABC-M17 so the ABC-M17 marked carriers may have appeared sooner then I thought. This would also predate the M17A1 so disregard what I said about that in the video. As of now I still haven't seen any ABC-M17 marked 2nd pattern carriers with the early pockets that would be indicitive of a 1964 and prior carrier but they might still exist. Thats all I got for now but more of this might change so be sure to check back from time to time for possibly more updated information.
Glad you like the mask!
Thank you again for it! Things awesome!
Good information with visual aid and reference.
are these masks still being used if not what was the last year they made them?
I couldn’t give you an exact date but as far as I can tell these were produced till around the 70’s. Maybe the early 80’s though I feel that’s pushing it as this is a 50’s designed dust mask.
@@gl883 my hubby said he used these in the early 90s at one little independent coal mine he worked in, so they must have been some hold overs or something.

damn I wish I could get my hands on one of those
Yeah man these things are awesome! It took me a good 2-3 years essentially to find this one since most are very overpriced or in absolutely trashed condition. They do sometimes show up for cheap on eBay like how I got mine. Just gotta look around every once in a while and you can find someone who listed one cheap not knowing what it is and get a good deal on one like I did.
@@gl883 how much was yours?
@@certifiedgluesniffer I ended up paying around $80 for mine. Not the best deal ever but its better then the $200+ they've been going for as of late.
Just wondering if you have any spare masks and/or suits to spare as I am trying to start up a second channel about gas masks? Please let me know
I'm not sure that I got anything to get rid of at this current point in time. Will definitely let you know though if I end up getting rid of some of my collection pieces.

were do you get all of your gas masks? i wanne get some of them
I got like 90% of my masks including this one off of eBay. they have the best selection for this kind of thing. The rest were pretty much from antique stores/surplus stores. But for the most part, if you want something along the lines of this eBay is the way to go.
@@gl883 ok thank you,for sure gonna buy some
Speaking of your shelf full of gas masks, it would be interessting if you show all the gas mask you own by now and wear it for presentation... Would be a nice and fresh restarter for the channel and a cool video too :) Thank`s a lot and keep up making videos
Yeah that would make a great video! probably will make a video like that soon. Collections changed a lot over my last collection update lol.
cool
Great Video - Really looking forward for the upcoomming videos :) Also, it`s cool to see you in front of the camera agaain - makes more relatable to you... What do you think about making a in depth test of (whatever) gasmask with filter for a longer duration and different exercises? Keep up your videos - appreciate it
Thanks man! Also I definitely could touch on in some of my videos the overall performance of these masks and some original reports from soldiers on the comfort and breathing resistance on these things.
Looks absolutely amazing.
Hi, how long are these masks good for? I have a C50 bought new in 2011 but was never used. Does anything start to deteriorate with the materials of the mask itself?
Hello, I wouldn’t worry about deterioration on a mask that new. Rubber deterioration really only starts if a mask is stored incorrectly for many years at a time. I have gas masks are early as wwii that are still serviceable. As long as you keep it stored well, (Like away from sunlight or heat sources) it should last you many years with little to no problems. The only thing you’d probably have to worry about is deformation of the mask over time. If you store it all smashed it will eventually take that shape which can ruin the seal of the mask.
I think the M17 with these Hoods are the best but so difficult to get one in the UK
Yeah they have a very unique and distinctive look thats so iconic. I wish you luck finding one of them things!
nice
Damn that's nice
Why don’t u show ur face anymore

Wow. Good video! I wish more people were as well educated on their gear when making videos talking about militaria like this.
I case you don't know already, I think the small pouch is for a decontamination kit. Also this video is epic 👍
