single income Christmas decorations (from a non-minimalist)

In today's video we are decking the halls and talking about how we handle single income Christmas decorations. In a very heavy, consumer society it can be difficult to establish boundaries, especially when you are not at all a minimalist like myself! Hopefully some of these ideas will help, if you find yourself in the same situation. As always, so glad you're here! www.meganblakelie.com •••••••...

So nice!🩵❄️🩵❄️

As single person and have a child .i would live the choice to stay at home but get no income if u did .i work full time 3 days but do mental hours in 3 days and that’s my single income .i have one child as couldn’t afford anymore I mean as in have buy more food or clothes or things like that for them ! No stuff like holidays or car ( can’t drive don’t have one lol have a bike and use public transportation in my country only ! But I make do just about in single income as social care worker .not great money but it will do for time being
Omg! Those handmade stocking tags are gorgeous😍 now i want to make them for my grandbabies, can you tell me the things i need to start them please, ive never done nothing like that😊
This was such a encouraging lovely video, it helped me to comm my inner peace, because i been feeling a little sad, depressed because I'm not able to gifted my little ones this year. Thank you for sharing so much positively 🤍✨️✨️✨️🫶
Love how you incorporate Jesus into your kids and platform ❤ imnow your new subscriber ...thank you for sharing these lovely ideas😇🫶
UA-cam is not considered income? I would consider it a work from home position that may not pay a lot for some but it's a pretty decent income source for many influencers. So it's supplemental income. I think most homemakers can do little hustles from home to lighten the financial load and to create abundance. Just my 2 cents! Keep on keeping on.
You’ve inspired me to make a hot cocoa bar! I’m so enjoying it!
We give our child a bible book along with stocking on Christmas eve. We don't do santa.
Lovely ideas! My girls love hot cocoa. I make it by the mug full. I mix 1 T cocoa with 2 T sugar, pinch of salt , 1/4 t vanilla ( or leave it out if you don't have it) with a few tablespoons of hot water to make a smooth chocolate syrup. Add 1 cup of hot milk and stir and enjoy! 🎄🎄🎄
Thank you so much for this recipe! We will have to try it soon ☕️❄️
Hi, is your cup from Stanley? I hope it’s not because I like the look of it but i’m not willing to spend that much. Do you mind sharing where it’s from? 😊
No this one was a white elephant gift at Christmas. Not sure where it came from but it isn't Stanley! I have gotten dupes off temu before though that I liked. Just don't run the straw through the dishwasher haha I learned the hard way!
If only everyone utilized these ideas consumerism wouldn’t be as big of a problem
God bless you and your family this Christmas ❤
Thank you, you and yours as well!
I love the ideas that you have. I am new to your channel. Also now a new friend. Can’t wait to see more of your videos. ❤❤❤
So so glad you're here! ❤️
How much do you spend for groceries?
Love this. Just something of interest for those of you who celebrate Advent and who have kids and want to have safe candles, they make battery flameless Advent candles for Advent wreaths.
Love it!!
Oh gawd she said “90s vintage”I think I just realized I’m old 😮
😆🙈
Oh my God. Grandma at heart, vintage 90s! The 90s for me doesn't say Grandma to me! I was born late 80s, so 70s av earlier says Grandma for me. I mean, I'm Grandma at heart too, but 90s says childhood for me. I just felt so old when you said that. 😂 Oh lord. I'm that age now. Oh well. I'm still watching your video, but I love it! We're one income and I'm trying to figure out how to make Christmas big without spending a ton. Thanks!❤
Hahaha this made me laugh! I was born in '94 so it kinda says childhood for me too. Apparently the kids call that vintage these days though 🤣🤣 either way, I love it!!
Excellent idea with wrapping thee books. I wish that had occurred to me 30 years ago !😂
I think wrapping the books you already have is great because young children do like new, novel things but they also love the familiar! If they like something, they will ask for it over and over again. I put some familiar items in my baby’s Easter basket and he loved recognizing them!
Very true! I love that 💗
Hello, Megan nice video, I’am one of your new subscriber’s!🫶🏽✨🌻
Thank you, so glad you're here!
@ aww you’re welcome ☺️
👍👍❤️
My baby watched this video with me and can't stop smiling at your face. 🥹 She really likes watching you!
How sweet! Bring on all the baby viewers 💗🥰
Did I miss the video where you put the girls in the same room again?
No! But I love that you've been here long enough to remember my previous effort 😅 this is a slow process of moving our 2 year old to a big girl bed. She still has the crib in her own room but is playing around with "slumber parties" in here.. I'm hoping it will stick this time!! 🙏
Great video! I absolutely love your spice jars- did you thrift those or do you have a link you could share?
Thank you! They were thrifted. I get asked that question often ❤️
Have two aprons when you bake or cook with the girls . They will have one to treasure with all the memories of baking with you for years to come
I love that idea! Such a sweet sentiment. ❤️
A thought.... Every year when you bake with your kids....hand write a copy of the recipes for each child..... , and find a new treat each year to try....put the recipes in a photo album with pics of you all baking together sprinkled throughout.....then when theyre older and starting out on their own give them each an album❤
This is what kids will remember! Not needless toys Memories are priceless
Yes, agreed 🥰
Yup this is me this year. Low income. High quality
Absolutely!!
Living room is beautiful! 👍👍❤️
Thank you!!! ❤️❤️
I so agree about making sure there is decor in the little one's rooms! They love it so much❤. we always have little dollar tree christmas trees with cheep little strings of fairy lights that act as night lights in the kids rooms during the season. They love that they can decorate them as they like and make little ornaments for them and rearrange as they please!
Love that! So special!
We made a paper Christmas tree out of construction paper and put it in the hall. We cut out ornaments in different shapes and our daughter spent hours decorating it over and over. We put 24 "gifts" under it, also on the wall, and she removed one each night. They always had the name of the book we would read at bedtime, and a snack coupon for a cookie, or eggnog, popcorn whatever. She played with that tree until Easter.
Great ideas regardless of income. I love the idea of the Jesse Tree and the wrapped books every night. We celebrate advent so you can also read a Chapter out of luke every night in December leading up to Christmas. We read about the real Saint Nicholas and the true meaning of gift giving on December 5th and do candy in shoes on December 6th for Saint Nicholas Day. I really hope to teach our children that Christmas is more than about stuff but about relationships and Jesus. Thanks for your ideas.
Oh yes, I've heard of reading a chapter every day but not personally done it yet. Love that so much!!
We do the wrapped books too! I loved everything you said. It’s so true: it’s the little things and the simple moments spending time together that matter. Your girls are being taught at an early age, so it will definitely continue to bear fruits as they get older!
It truly is the little things! ❤️
❤❤❤
I love their room decor! I agree. Christmas is so fun to go big with decor :)
Thank you! Their excitement makes it all worth it ❤️
6 to 7 years ago, we discovered that we could do all of the cooking the day *before* Thanksgiving! GAME CHANGER! We weren't exhausted from cooking and got the kitchen cleaned up. On Thanksgiving Day, we heated the food up and then relaxed after eating (I also switched to paper plates and foil pans, so clean up is a breeze!)
My husband and I are empty nesters now, but I remember what a blessing it was for him to bring home a deer or two each year when the kids were home.
Happy Thanksgiving weekend and first Sunday in Advent. Thank you for sharing your Thanksgiving .
This was such a beautiful and encouraging video. I really appreciate your perspective on Christmas and decorations. This is my first year as a mom where my toddler understands Christmas and is excited about it, which gets me excited! I’m usually not much of a decor/consumer person BUT I’ll admit this year feels different 😅 I’m going to be wrapping some of our frames with Christmas paper! New subscriber and looking forward to more videos ❤
Everything looks beautiful! I loved your little girl sitting by Santa and chuckling. Precious. Happy Thanksgiving!
Oh yes The Little House books. I read the series every year. I love the simplicity and hard work shown in the books.
The apple pie looks amazing! Maybe you can share the recipe on your blog! North Georgia is one of my favorite places! Your girls are adorable 🥰! Thanks for sharing! Blessings from Bama!
Thank you so much! We have family in Abbeville ❤ maybe I will share the pie recipe soon on the blog, though it is not my own so it would be looped in with other seasonal favorites!
I agree 100% lifestyle swaps are a much more accurate term.
Yes glad it's not just me being too detail-oriented! 😂
Super helpful xx I’m a full time working mum at the moment. Heart is with my family / home ❤
It can be tough to balance, but I'm sure you're doing amazing! 💖
Fellow North Georgian here! Just found your channel and absolutely love your content. My husband and I want to do this once we have children, but have been implementing these things for a while now in order to prepare. Especially #5 - anything we can diy, we diy :) God bless 🤍
Hi neighbor! So glad we've crossed paths 🙂 we had so many fun DIY home projects in our pre-kids era. Lots of fun memories! Enjoy!
Hello!!, I think is a great example of sustainable life, is a integral life with spiritual, love, nature, family... I hope more poeple enroll on that... 🎉
God bless your family! First viewer, we are also trying to figure out where the Good Lord wants us to move. Were not sure (praying for an answer) also trying to be deligent with our money, I LOVE your content, question, which nails did you use, also, how did you know where to move? Thank you kindly for your answer 🤗
Thank you for being here! I use tge kiss brand nails, always with glue (even if they are press on). And we moved back to where my husband grew up, so half or family was already here. It is also a rural area where kids can be kids with a low cost of living, so we had a lot of peace about it!
I am such a creative person too! And I have that same problem that sometimes I get so caught up in my creativity that I slack on homemaking tasks. And to top it all off I work full time so it is a lot to try and balance. I’ve come to accept that I will have great days where I’m thriving everywhere and then not so great days where I feel like I am behind on everything. It’s just an ebb and flow journey!
Yes absolutely! It can be such a challenge.. ESPECIALLY working full time. You're doing great though, I'm sure!!
Your house is full of tons of stuff so im guessing that your single income is pretty good
It's enough for us to make it work! We are certainly blessed by family and i love to thrift. To be honest our income is still below the poverty line in the US, but like i said we are blessed and thankful!
A smaller income goes a lot further when there’s no debt. Frugal people look for second-hand and save for larger purchases. I’m astonished how many people jump into gatekeeping mode when the topic is low-budget or poverty level homemaking. Low income doesn’t have to equate to shabby and dirty.
Mien fulla stuff but when moved to a new home notning and a tight budget get bare basics now for rest the stuff like tv stand and coffee table I will get for free off zero waste sites ! I found a free black brand new long glass table in my apt block couple of weeks ago . Cleaned it up and now added my lamp and looks perfect ! I took free items to save out my grandmothers home too.its amazing what can do when thrift !
A good reorganize is always great to watch.
I feel the exact same!
I love the first world perspective disclaimer at the beginning ❤ instant subscribe 🥺
So so glad you're here!
