1903a4 sniper build. Its built from a sporterized Smith Corona 1903a3 barrelled action. Awesome rifle
how about an update? its 2024, are you still shooting it? how is it working out?
@@jwgbmp40 thanks for reaching out! I actually just sold her about 2 months ago sadly. On the plus side I used thay cash to purchase an authentic A4. Thanks for watching. I need to start making videos. It's been a while!
I thought smith corona didn’t make A4s?
@@edwardsawyer4081 they did not. Only remington did with only around 24000 made. This is a clone
I just got back from the south CMP store. I was looking for a beater with a good barrel that no collector would want. turns out that my rack grade gun had a number one muzzle reading. I took it home and it's a collection of parts from 1944 all the way to 1956. the trigger assembly up rod and the barrel are barely worn at all. I wonder where it's been since July of 44 when the receiver was made. the stock is b to hell but it's not cracked or anything it's 80 years old I bet. is there such sweet people it's worth it's worth going to the store for sure.
This is a cool but affordable gun. If you are into historical items, this one’s it.
Someone give this guy a cough drop
Nice, mine came with the vasteras rear sight.
Who was the guy that works on these ?
Hello, who did the work on tapping the scope? I heard that Smith Corona are very hard receivers and a lot of gun smith wont touch it. thanks
Thank you.
How do you get it delivered to your house and not have to go through FFL?
These heavy sighs are for?????
Hey is it a high or low reciever model, mine is also a 1938 but its a low reciever, i just bought the same optic you did, kinda scared ill have a hard time mounting it because of that low reciever.
Absolutely beautiful rifle well put together
I think if you want original stock, rack grade is it. But if you want a new stock, pick service grade and up.
Cool, debated but went with expert grade. Just received it today!
Did u swap that Slant Muzzle brake on it, with another one? Just bought one, and it came with the slant muzzle brake.
Yes I did. I ended up going with a BD2 fighter break. It's really nice
How were you able to request manufacturer? Is there a place on the form?
All I did was add a sticky note denoting I wanted a ww2 dated rifle. Thanks for watching
@@mitchell3042 thanks, I have been wanting to order one from the cmp for over 20 years
Is there a way to remove the scope with out cutting it off with a scope
I recently got one of these. How much would you say it sells for today?
They are worth a good amount. I see them for 1800 to 2800. For an authentic issued usmc rifle your looking more like 10k
@@mitchell3042 thank you for the information I got one in great condition it was refurbished by James River armory and I’ve been seeking to see how much it’s worth but can’t find how much people are selling them for
ALG TRIGGER BEATS THE SHIT OUT OF THE BOLTS AND PINS ALG TRIGGER NEEDS TO BE FILED DOWN
Can you fire the rifle when the stock is folded??
I enjoyed your very informative video. I’d make one suggestion. Use a pointer rather than waving your hand all over the place. All the extraneous hand movements were making me dizzy. I’m looking forward to seeing more from you regarding your AK47. Cheers!
Haha, thanks for the tip gary! I do have a problem with that. However thank you for watching! I make these videos for fun just to try and share the passion.
thank you for the kind words..
Chuck your more than welcome! You are a great wealth of knowledge, and a great smith. Thank you for what you do. I have been inspired by your work.
great vid! ive got a 96/38 from the Mauser factory and the threaded muzzle with only a barrel band not matching. im so glad i picked one up!
Thanks for watching and I hope you are enjoying your old awesome piece of history!
Great choice
Maggpul k2 grips fell way better trust. Lol
Can you still load the rifle with the stripper clips or do you have to load one round at a time? This is an awesome looking rifle. The nostalgia and quality of these surplus rifles is just addictive to me.
Can't use strippers clips as the scope sits directly over the magazine. Thanks for watching
Oh well still a great looking rifle. I’ve got one but I never fired it. May have to fix that problem here soon.
I got 2 from the CMP a couple years ago. I got a service grade and a special grade. The special grade looks like new (it mostly is). The service grade is in great shape too. The stock on that one is a little banged up, but that's what I wanted. I am pretty happy with what they sent me. I asked for WW2 era Springfield, and that's what they sent... It's nice that they let you ask, and they will try to give you what you want (if they are able to). Well worth the money and the process.... I'm almost done making a walnut display case (just putting the tung oil on the case).
That is great! It is an excellent feeling being able to hold and use an iconic piece of history! Congratulations!
Nice rifle,Thanks for the video.
You bet
Web site for the gunsmith u said ,please
There is no website. He is a very busy man. However his business name is Warpath vintage
Interesting video; thank you for posting. Question: You state the A4 was outfitted with match grade quality/air gaged barrels, can you tell me the source of this info.
Absolutely, and thank you for watching. It is listed in many books relating to US sniper rifles one to mention is US Marine Corps Scout Sniper. However there are many more that mention this.
It was fortunate that your Iver Johnson carbine fit into that M1A1 stock. If it was a Universal it wouldn't have fit!
Yes sir you are correct! However it did take some fitting to get to work.
@@mitchell3042 I can imagine
I put those Attero rear sight mounts on all my AKM's and agree they are rock solid.....
They are excellent. still rocking mine
Proud Philippine made 1911 pistol 🔫🔫
Yes sir they are a good choice!
If it was built in 1938, then it should of used a PE or PEM scope to make it more period correct. The PU didnt start to be used until 1942
I agree. I no longer have this rifle, It was a fun project either way
"high speed low drag" so eloquently put. No better way to describe they way we need to have our rifles ready for the bad man💯💯
Indeed. Thank you for watching
Does anyone know if they addressed the firing pin issue? I like for the company to fix the known problems before I buy a gun
I believe they have. It would be best to contact them either way.
😍💕😍💕😍💕😍💞😎💞😎💞😎
For a Rack Grade, you scored an awesome stock.
Nice! I've been debating the expert grade or a rack grade.
Not really in the white, its stainless and cant be blued. It was usually blackened with soot from a lantern or a few other easy ways. Its described in the training manual for the m1 cal 30 rifle.
Nice rifle! Great review, in Holland it is even more difficult to get a nice M1 Garand
anybody have a link to this Polish Firing pin??
Check apex
Very good video!!
Thank you for watching!
Hey Mitchell thanks for the video ! I'm looking to buy my first m1. Any pointers you'd have for ordering ?
Thanks for watching! Just read carefully and fill out correctly. Make sure you get it notorized and send in a copy of all the required documents. Then sit back and be patient!
They will definitely run out of supply some day. I would suggest not to dilly dally. I missed out on some options a couple years ago because I drug my feet. Still kicking myself!
I got my service grade HRA M1 on Aug. 10, 1984 from the DCM. It cost me $94.30 plus $27.66 for packing, handling and shipping, total, $121.96. Its a great shooter and I used it in leg matches.
I know the armor that worked on that rifle, he is glad to know you enjoyed the rifle they reworked!
Thanks for watching! That is awesome you know the armorer! Tell him thanks it shoots great and I am happy! Would love to know more about the rifle and parts he or she put on!
@@mitchell3042I sent him the video don’t know if he will be able to comment on it and keep his job, they are weird about things like that.
I believe the PB bolts came from when we loaned rifles to Denmark. Beretta and another company contracted to make spare parts, and eventually, complete rifles. I have a Danish with a PB bolt and VAR barrel.
I sent my packet in on 7/6 and got the DBU email on the 19th but it said they received my packet in the 11th. Everything I've seen leans towards 4-6wks so hopefully some time in the next couple weeks I'll get the shipping email and receive it the next day.
Did you get it?
Actually received it around the end of August IIRC. It's not bad for a rack grade. Pitting on the underside of the receiver is minimal fire something that's 65 years old. I've installed the Schuster plug but only taken out to the range once since getting it. Shoots 150gr Winchester Deer Season well enough
Looks nice. I thought "rack grade" was a nice way of saying "shit". Wish CMP was not as bureaucratic as they are. Too much paperwork and I have to find a club to join.
The Garand Collectors Assn is something like $14/yr
@@politicallyinsensitive4200 $25 per year now
Thanks man! I was in the process of sending my packet in to the CMP, but I was on the fence with the Rack Grade vs. the Expert grade, due to the fact that they are the only rifles available right now. Your video helped me make me define my decision. There's some guy doing the different grades calling the Rack Grade essentially sh"@t. Yet, a lot of other people where satisfied with their purchase. Thanks again Mitchell 30!
No problem! I hope you get the rifle you want!
@@mitchell3042 Thanks Mitchell!
