(Replay 05) How To Get Better At Pickleball EVERY Time You Step On The Court
Another thoughtful and beneficial podcast. Sometime would like to hear more about ‘playing free’ which sounds like ‘the zone’ Rick Cipes talks about on his podcast. Seems that would mean the physical skill and mental strategy are all mastered and internalized. So much of my brain is used for the rules, reacting to a shot, court placement, etc. Only once did I get close, and it wasn’t about winning more games tho I did that day but it was almost effortless and the fun factor was off the charts. Best regards
I'm sorry, I respected you guys but after inviting a dude that spike drinks on your podcast...no values. Who cares if he is a good coach or not, spiking someone's drink shows true colors.
Agreed. Especially when it was considered so serious that his medical license was taken away.
Love these podcasts. Very grateful. I like to think that we play against 4 opponents when playing doubles: the 2 human players and the 2 static players: “Linus” (the court lines- especially the back and sides) and “Annette” (the net.) Those two are unbeaten, so they have to be respected.

Michael - GREAT reflexs man.@@@
I love this podcast. Inviting guest on with questionable past, i wish you could keep it between you guys. With a few of those allegations I can't support this guest... Juat disappointing that he's so widely accepted now especially coaching young women. Stay vigilant out there.
Where to attack/instigate on a player that holds the paddle like a frying pan. They have right shoulder covered.
Left shoulder
Glad you see it as a left-handed forehand. Dayne was trying to convince people it was more right hand.
For those who don't read the episode description: "It's called the "Cradle Drop" because you cradle your off hand on the paddle as you are rotating to hit the shot. This is a controlled backhand with underspin that you will use a LOT in your pickleball career. "
Excellent episode.
In addition to my comments below I would also like to commend you both on your excellent Podcast. I have learned so much, thank you!
I have been playing and studying the evolution of the game for seven years and still have no idea which shot you are referring to in this episode. Please provide at least a description for your audience or better yet post a video of this shot being made by the pros. This particular episode is simply not worth the listen without this information.
I'd also love a visual of this shot, tried scanning your Instagram but didn't find! :)
Still have no idea what a cradle drop is, lol. Sounds cool though.
You said a lot about the shot but never really described the shot or mentioned why to use it. This was the first of your podcasts that was not helpful...
Minor point but you also keep calling it four point oh. Or to use point oh for discount code. It's actually four point zero.
I couldn't find any videos showing a "cradle drop". I'm having difficulty visualizing the shot.
Is this Eastern changed just at the kitchen? I always wondered how much Pros changed grips during play. Seems like Ben Johns has to be somewhat Western to scoop his backhand dink. Maybe you have already covered that?
I used Eastern backhand at the kitchen early on before I realized I needed to commit to one grip. It is indeed extremely powerful for counters, especially on high balls. I think sitting on this grip could work for a right side player paired with an alpha left side partner who allows you to shift and sit backhand. It's actually strong on all high balls, not just back hands, as you can counter paddle side shoulder with it similar to the scorpion/stop sign/pancake. It's the same grip as full western forehand flipped over, so you can potentially hit forehands with it, but much harder on lower balls. You can potentially hit very sharp angle forehand cross court dinks with it. Ben Johns actually moves his grip almost to this for some of the crazy angle dinks he does. But I would probably try to grip shift for most dinks, and hit 2 handers for the middle dinks. I can actually see this being the future for some right side specialists.
Gonna go practice that eastern… actually all of my game 😂
Love this!
Appreciate all the great info you provided. Myself and my drill group Thank you!
Hey guys love your podcast. ❤ I’m a 3.7 but aspire to 4.0 and beyond. If you have ideas on how best to drill with your ball machine that would be helpful. A friend of mine has the Slinger ball machine , he sets up cheap plastic clothes baskets with towels inside at kitchen area, as he practices 3rd shot drops. I thought great idea 💡 so more things like that 😎👍🏼
Definite growing pains. While it is fun to see so many new people enjoying pickleball, when huge money gets involved it tends to corrupt things.
Always a great poddy! imo the new power trend is taking away from the true fun the sport was designed for. The unique thing about pickleball that distinguishes it from other sports the most, is the way the game flows at 4 person ritual kitchen exchange. The beauty of a dinking rally followed by a speedup that goes back to a dinking rally, is undeniably awesome.
Thanks for the content. I've learned a lot from the podcast. Was curious if you guys could do a podcast on the different types of spin and how to best counter each spin. Thanks. M
Please ...more breakdowns. These are awesome and a great companion piece to episode 51. Thank you both!
Great analysis! I really appreciate these videos along side your podcast, as I am a visual learner.
Excellent analysis. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
Thank you both for all your great advice. You guys rock!
Rally breakdown is very helpful. Like multiple replays of segments of rally while discussing the segment.
This was great!
Please upload the podcast here ! 😢😢
I love this point breakdown. And, the multiple repeats of each shot in slo-mo was fantastic to really learn and understand the point you were making. Please do more of these!
Great video, very good tips
Love this breakdown! So fun to slow it down and review shot after shot. The infamous Heidi Gurley loves that behind the back shot! LOL
really helpful breakdown.....hope your Channel does well!!
Incredible point, great breakdown
Love this format! Great breakdown you two!
I’ve been listening to your podcast on Apple Podcast in my car to and from Pickleball - great stuff I really enjoy it!
