My preference is Shii Cho, would you recommend that I do this exercises once for each arm? Or are there wrist drill for two hand grips? Thanks!
The classical music in the background twas PEAK 😂 ❤ Will definitely give Shii Cho a try, the instructions and reasons why to do things a certain way were very clear and logical. Shii Cho reminds me of Tai Chi (which I know a little bit already) where movements flow into one another very organically, hope that helps me to learn this form!
Just started learning sabers and i live in a small town with no real following, im so glad you guys have released such a clear and easy to follow lesson!
It’s essentially epee fencing with a few cuts. Love it!
Where did you get those curved hilt sabers?? They look so cool!
i think i just hit gold with lightsaber tutorial videos
Commentary gave me Bruce Campbell vibes from the old Sam rami Spider-Man game tutorials. Lol subbed
Be careful, the Jawas will go for your ECU next!
You had me at 'limbs'. Subbed!
I think I am perfect for Makashi, because I am a saber fencer and I am made for some fast accurate explosive attacks. The parries are also pretty much the same
Does Shii-Cho help if the opponent is fast and makes lots of moves without using a specific form and hitting hard with his saber ? Because with my friend I'm doing a lot of fights and everytime we hurt our fingers each other or something other
No that's why Kit Fisto died to Palps💀
@@AW_unit3650 oh 💀 what should I do then ?
@@lepetitrenard_8668 Well there's Form 7 which is what he used, Form 3 is also a good counter due to it's defensive nature. Form 4 would also be a good counter (but it's literally impossible to use it💀) And Form 6 which is essentially a blend of all forms.
@@AW_unit3650 Ok ! Btw does that mean that form 7 is just giving hard hits in any direction ? Does that make it an easy-to-learn form but also a dangerous one cuz we hit our fingers ?
@@lepetitrenard_8668 Idk bro I just used google 😭💀
As someone who trains Shien/Djem So, it's ok, I understand.
I think that parry 5 and 6 are not executed correctly: the hands of the guy that holds the saber during the parry have loose fingers, that will influence the parry to be done firmly. Imagine to parry an attack with the grip of the saber like that and you will end to be disarmed or hit. Sorry to point that out but I have experience with medieval and reinassance historical sword fighting and that grip is totally wrong and useless in a combat situation.
Dooku literally never fought like this
I would love to get an Advanced Video. >.>
I'm sensing that having some sarcasm is required to practice makashi... Lol
I love how they don't even convey a full understanding of why Makashi is named after an anti-force lizard, but they like the combat style anyways lol
What hilts were you using?
i have newbie question - can i mix diffrent fighitng styles if mine is diffrent dthan my friend ? They usually use makashi/ataru [impressive styles], whilist i usually like the most djem so [im aggresive] with jar kai elements. I wonder if there are some nice compatible ways to fight
Hello! Thank you for all of your videos. I have to ask... Where did you get curved lighsabers? I need one for Makashii, but I can't find curved sabers for heavy duelling.
Makashi does not lack strength, if you were a jedi you could use your other hand to perform a force push to counter particularly devastating attacks, or , use your hand to grab an object and hurl it against your enemy, or , use sand or dust and put them in your enemy's face to blind them you get the idea.
Yo era un practicante de makashi en mi juventud, y encontraba muy interesante incorporar elementos de verdadera y falsa destreza española al estilo, combinándolas con los pasos en semi circulo del kendo y aikido.Funcionaba muy bien . Cheers.
Continue this series, please, although I'm more of a Form 1 practitioner, I'd really like a 7 forms in-depth tutorial. Great channel! Just subbed!
Form 1 is a great style. Not as flashy but it’s great for more serious lightsaber combatants I find 👀
both educative and comic huge respect for that
I love the comentary, man! Also, good information, thank you. BUT THE COMMENTARY!
Much appreciated Got a few friends I'm working with twice a week and your vids are a huge help
I really want to go all out in this style while dueling but I’m struggling to find a durable curved hilt blade that isn’t $700. Is there anything you guys can recommend that will hold up in a duel, but won’t break the bank?
This honestly looks like a lot of fun.
Makashi is basically the fencing form of lightsaber combat.
wow lighsaber is a fencing sport now
I'd love a more in-depth video on Form II ☺️
Love this. Also, cool sabers! Banes by any chance? I have one myself. On the subject of sabers, what grade & length of blade would you recommend for Makashi? I personally find longer blades hard to wield 1 handed, though of course I know I need to practice more. Also, I'm in the UK, so can I follow your Makashi syllabus online? My reason for focusing on Makashi, age (nearly 50), limited strength, LOVING Count Dooku, & of course, SPACE LIZARDS that neutralise their opponent's advantages.
I recommend at least 30 inches. I found that any longer things get difficult due to the weight of the blade. I use 28” to practice so my wrist doesn’t get tired
Wish I knew this existed in 2016
i love the salute. it makes the duel or fight more civilised
The reason I enjoy Makashi may surprise you...
I miss you guys, I'm glad it's still going strong after the... the two head folks left. I forget their names.
"do you like retiles? from Space? :D ... and do you not like the Force vary much?" XD best reason to learn Makashi right here. But really this was a great video!! I'm glad I found it :)
Fun Fact: Form II (Makashi) was created because Christopher Lee, who played Count Dooku in the prequels, was an expert fencer, even in his 70s. However, he knew nothing about katanas, which lightsabers are based on. So they designed his lightsaber so that it could be handled like a rapier and created a lightsaber style based on fencing. When you think about it, Mr. Lee was a legit Jedi/Sith.
I can almost guarantee that this statement is incorrect. He fits the bill, but the books and lore are very old. Been around since the original trilogy.
@@joshsavage1491 wrong, its been countless times confirmed
That's why it looks like fencing...that makes sense.
the curved handle was decided on before they even cast Christopher Lee though
@@joshsavage1491 No you’re wrong, this is 100% true. Form II Makashi was created for Sir Christopher Lee because of his fencing background. That’s why the form is mostly used one handed unlike the other forms. However the curved hilt was already designed beforehand.
Wow. I actually think this would be one form I would use.
Can someone tell me where to buy those curved lightsaber and I mean solids ones
This is absolutely phenomenal. Here's hoping you guys can rebuild once things return to normal! We need more Saber Dojos.
Makashi was the form I got most often on a quiz for which form was best for me along with Soresu and Djem So. I've trained in saber style of fencing for the past couple years and quite like it. I also know some longsword as well. Your version seems to go more on the lines of rapier.
It's very interesting because I hybridized form two and form five as one or I come in very strong and hard but without telegraphing anything and my defense is a counter without doing much movement and hitting it just one local spot namely the sword fighting arm to the neck or leg it's hard for me to explain because of my multiple martial arts that I've trained in which was Ken jutsu fencing and Krabi kobong
"On the next episode" *ceases to exist*
Yes Covid did a number, but another Video is Still in the cards
I wana join
This just looks like fencing with color sticks…..
By fencing of course you mean olympic fencing and by olympic fencing basically just means electronic tag. If this is how they want to do it then fine but there's a whole world of single handed sword methods that perfectly fit Makashi's described intricacy.
And? Its still pretty cool
Makashi is based on European fencing. Unlike the other forms which are based on east Asian fencing.
@@vetarlittorf1807to be more particular it's based off of Calvary sword exercise
I have form 6 my sister form 3 please do that
I'm another Form VI enthusiast! Please, do indeed make a video about it!
This is now officially HSA’s favorite Makashi video. Excellent, classy, and informative video on the poking form.
Glad you enjoyed it!
".. we're all friends here" doug is the best lol
Well done! Great explanations.
now we just need to do it again for Shii-Cho the bar has been set ;D
