I used to have so many issues with the steel rail bachmann e-z track(mostly power distribution, rusty rails,etc.). I switched over to the nickel silver rail (grey roadbed) type. No problems since. I basically bought my newer track in small batches, since it costs a bit more than the standard stuff. Ultimately though, i plan to upgrade to Kato uni-track. That seems to be the best overall, next to actually laying track on cork roadbed and adding ballast.
