I Tried Blurry Background Technique and Here's What Happened

That sounds like a great idea. Can you help me understand what you mean? Do you mean another example of this same idea, or another background in addition to the door somewhere else in the photo, or replace the entire room background.
Dude, the PS solarize is shit and looks awful. There is more realistic ways of doing it using curves.

the reflection in the water is still reflecting blue sky not a night sky + there are still shadows on the pool side

I tried this technique with one of my own photos in jpg format. the blending options in layer style had no effect....suggestions pls.

Hi there, what film holder were you using for this and have you filed the sides to incorporate the negative border?
Yes. I am using the standard film holder and I filed down the sides to increase the size so that there is a slight black edge around the negatives when scanned.
