I visited Cansano in June, as my father was born there until coming to America with my grandmother to join my grandfather at the age of 3. Many Cansano families emigrated to Colorado. At night the townspeople enjoy the square. Followed by the children kicking a soccer ball until 11pm when the elders shooed them home. It's a beautiful place.

The headline of this town being deserted in very mis-leading. Its clear you wandered thru the town during afternoon meal-time when everyone is off the streets. During the Summer months this town is very active, with lots of families having relatives returning. Yes, during the 60's many did emigrate in search of jobs overseas, and the agrarian history faded with only 1 or 2 farms remaining. The old town and its houses were originally built to support that agrarian economy and has old barns and very small houses and rooms. But, this section of town is very actively going thru renovation where expats are investing in that section of town. Complicating some of this re-build is Italian law that gives rights to everyone in the family tree to a piece of property so to get claim to invest in a property one needs to track all of them down and ask them to renounce those rights. In my wife's case, there were as many as 15+ different people, spread around the world, most of who never actually visited the town, before her Father commenced re-building the house where he grew up. You will see parcels of land in town that lay fallow due primarily to this reason and its an issue/challenge across Italy imho. Lastly, having just returned from a 2 week vacation in Cansano, its piazza is unparalled with lots of walking space, several restaurants, room for kids to wander without car traffic and as a result many use this town as a destination stop between the larger Sulmona City and other towns up the mountain roads from Cansano. The Adriatic beach towns are 30-40 mins drive away and the mountains, some as high as 9,000 feet, are at your beck and call. There are hiking guides as well as a mountain biking guide (with electric bikes!) available to enable you to take advantage of the outdoors. And every day you will see loads of road bikers traveling up the mountains from Sulmona on the valley floor getting in more than just their dose of exercise.

If you're looking to have a breakfast there take your own tomato sauce or brown sauce they don't seem to have any

Back in August 2004 on a really hot summer evening, me, my wife and some former Goth friends from Bristol and Cardiff did some filming on this boat (known as the Il Bordello back then) for a series called True Horror with Antony Head (of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame). basically we were Goth extras and just had to act like it was a Goth club. We did not get paid but there was a Bar Tab. Anthony Head stayed for hours after the filming and we were talking. It's looking old now but the scene can be seen here - ua-cam.com/video/p0mnsIxPPpI/v-deo.html We don't live in Bristol anymore and not been on here since then, almost 20 years ago! It was a lot of fun and probably won't do anything like this again as our Gothy days are sort of over.

I´ve just lived 4 years, in Tbilisi. Georgia is a hidden gem, simple as that. Great people, delicious food (try satsivi), fantastic nature, very cheap country to live in and a looong warm summe. As a dane, i can´t ask for more. I love Georgia 🙂
