Whenever I read comments that make fun of Dave Mustaine; that he wants back in the band, is jealous, etc. I realize that the person most likely knows nothing about early Metallica. In my opinion, there is a very good chance that Metallica would not exist. Dave brought a wealth of knowledge and direction to the table when he got together with Ulrich and Hetfield. Out of the three of them, he was the most talented musician. Without Mustaine, they would have never had that early sound and presence that made it worthwhile for Kirk Hammett to abandon Exodus. If Metallica had never formed or if they just fizzled out, James Hetfield would have definitely still had a great career in heavy metal. He is a great guitarist and has a great voice for heavy metal. Would Lars Ulrich have been a successful drummer for anyone else though?? I seriously doubt it. Just like Anthony Keidis of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lars Ulrich was in the perfect place at the perfect, and surrounded by the all the right people that made it possible for him to have such a successful career. If Keidis was not surrounded by one of the best drummers to ever exist, best bass player to ever exist, and best guitarist/backing vocalist to ever exist, no one would have ever hired him as their front man. Keidis literally didn’t know how to sing until John Frusciante and Rick Rubin came into the picture. They convinced him to take vocal lessons and learn how to sing melodically; which opened up all sorts of doors and different musical paths for the band. Had he just stuck with his spoken word, rap-style of vocals, they would have fizzled out and only be remembered as a small time Las Angeles band from the 80’s.

Who’s this NWOBHM band? The Brit’s put out good Metal. They’re called Mettallica?

Legendary demo. "War For Freedom" and "When Will You Die" were included on the "Scream Your Brains Out" comp LP produced by the UK mag Metal Forces in 1988.

Mustaine, Burton, Ulrich & Hetfield were the most incredible lineup, its too bad Dave could not , not be himself to the point of losing his job. Daves compositions, James' riffs, Cliffs knowledge & Lars drive could have been unstoppable, instead we got 2 great, great bands. Fair enough.

they had like 4 demos: Megaforce demo, ron mcgovney garage demo, Power metal, no life til leather.

All this sound better without "Ozzy's screams" in "Kil'lem all".

James really found his sound with motorbreath, took it and ran with it.

Man, if they could have maintained a healthy existence these four could have been the Beatles of metal.

This version is interesting. It's faster than the original version and has the stereo channels swapped for whatever reason.
