MOST beautiful piece for violin!! Ashokan Farewell by Jay Ungar- he wrote it at the end of his music camp in upstate New York, years ago( possibly in the1980s)- and then later Ken Burns used it in his Civil War documentary- The Civil War. We’ve watched the documentary a few times and have listened to the soundtrack hundreds of times and possibly 1,000 times, beginning back around the year 2000, when Mama Jill would check it out from the public library in Edmond, Oklahoma and later in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
This is the only song on the album and in the documentary that was not written in the 19th century.
