"Shangpung: A Tribute Project" started with like-minded friends sharing a common love for their homeland and a desire to give back to the society and community by encouraging the young to always remain rooted despite their achievement and progress, no matter where life takes them. This project hopes to provide a platform for the young and budding talents of the village to showcase their hidden creative abilities and potentialities in various fields (sports, arts, academics, entertainment, etc).
"Kyrwiang wa tlem" is a tribute song to a very ancient and well-known village, Shangpung, located in West Jaiñtia Hills District of Meghalaya. The song is an encomium to the village, its name and fame, its people notably the eminent ones who have brought laurels and recognition to the village and also to those who have significantly contributed towards its welfare and development. The song also pays tribute to the village’s exquisite and picturesque natural landscape and to the great minds birthed on its lap, whose footprints are indelibly engraved in the annals of the village history and whose legacy still lives on for future posterity to cherish and treasure. The song is also an expression of love and the feeling of pride that the writer and composer has for their village.
