Underway on the Wizard from Deadliest Catch!! | Part 1 to Tacoma
Keith invited me to head down with them to Tacoma for a day on the Wizard to grab their tendering gear from Trident. Unfortunately I couldn't make it last year so I made sure I was making it this year!
What a blast to ride down and back with the guys. Departure time was subjective so I played it safe and was there by 5:30. Of course nobody emerged from their cabins til 7 so I aimlessly wandered around and made myself some coffee. Once it was time to roll though, it was all hands on deck. Took even longer to head out waiting for the port to send their technician to disconnect shore power but before too long we were under way.
It's a beautiful trip down. Just over an hour to Tacoma and I also had the 360 camera going for an awesome timelapse (find that video on here too). Keith was fantastic, great guy. Even put me in charge of the stern line coming back in the locks so look for video part 2 very soon!

While unfortunately we no longer have our beloved Serafino as we've become landlubbers do the ever increasing size of our children, we're blessed to still be good friends with those who do and it was nice to be asked to join Goran on his beautiful 1956 Connie. Off to Chris-Craft Rendezvous 2024 in Poulsbo!

Well we've sold our Connie, but we can still ride with friends! Goran asked for help with his beautiful classic 'Rialto'. The day was perfect. Beautiful weather and minimal wind. Even better, fastest locking ever! Cruised right through the small locks. That's a first!

To all the people complaining about the music I discovered this wonderful thing called the mute button. That or just exit out of the video.
Lol. I appreciate the comment. Never thought the music would receive 2 thoughts as it relates to the content. Who knew it would be such a divisive issue.
Starting right off the bat I love the starting music to this video
Much appreciated!
I guess it's easy to get a fishing job for little girls with all those draggers around.
Say what??
Looked like Keith was kicking the bucket on the TV show?
Yeah. Glad to say he was doing just fine when we went down.
@@Serafinoetal how did you get to know Keith?
Keith’s boat could use some chipping and painting while at the dock especially the upper decks. Kind of surprising to see this. If that was my boat it would be kept up. The marine environment is extremely harsh on metals on boats not counting the cold weather and freezing conditions in Alaska. Boat upkeep is a must have especially when you are own your downtime at the dock.
I'd say he understands that. Not sure if I've got the clip on youtube, it might just be on my tiktok channel, but if you find the video I've got on there with a couple million views, you'll see just how rough this boat looked 2 years ago coming back from season. When it left dry dock at that point, it looked brand new. They did a good bit of work after the last season as well, like you said, the sea eats them quick and hard. I've also got a video on here, drone shots as it comes out of dry dock. Check that one out.
Lol that boat was built in 1945.. I’m pretty sure slapping paint on it isn’t going to make it last any longer 😂
Hey monster!!!!! It's not your boat
@@pops8623 yep it’s not but it’s called pride in what you work on. In the oilfield those boats were not mine either but myself and my crew wanted our boats to look good not look like a rust bucket because people have no work ethic and are lazy. Maybe one day you will know what that is LOL! Sorry your feelings were hurt. Too funny! 😂
Very true. Structurally she seems fine, but rust is prevalent for sure.
16:20 why is the exhaust loud at the bow and not at the stern? i’ve always wondered if you could hear the exhaust or if they were generally fairly quiet stupid question, but does the bow thruster have its own engine in the bow?
Yea the bow thruster has it's own diesel motor. I think this channel has a tour of the Wizard and shows off the diesel motor for the bow thruster.
You have hit the nail on the head. It's the bow thruster engine, running as they are in the process of spitting it around. I don't know the specifics of the exhaust system, but I would imagine it's more of a straight shot for the bath thruster engine, which is also very large, than on the main engine which is quite quiet at the stack. If you look at some of my other videos, you'll see I do a tour and show that bowthruster engine as well.
@@irwinisidro you beat me to it.
I happened to be driving across the Ballard Bridge when y'all pulled away
Ah very cool! See your car in the clip?
Always see the Wizard at Astoria.
Oh yeah?
@@Serafinoetal Yep. Also see them come in and out of the Lewis and Clark River by the Astoria Airport.
Interesting. Wonder what brings them down that way.
@@Serafinoetal There is a marine workshop just past the L/C bridge. When in Astoria they normally tie up at Port of Astoria Pier 2.
Wizard looks good for a ship built in WWII.
Absolutely.
Agreed.
She’s BEAUTIFUL!
Agreed.
Pallets stacked unsafely
Yeah?
Hi Keith!
Looks tasty!
Was fantastic.
Northwestern my favorite boat
She's beautiful for sure.
I’m done at 4:59 that music was incredibly annoying.
Thank for watching. In the future you can turn down the volume. Cheers,
cool shots, angles, and music!
Thank you!

if you give me permission. I will share some information to increase your channel. Then you get lots of subscribers and views. waiting for your valuable response. best regards Thank you
Sweet
that is amazing! Beautiful in so many ways.
Yes :)
The Wizard was a fueiling boat build for WW2 originally.
It's amazing isn't it. There still some original WWII pinup decals in the engine room.
Awesome time-lapse of the Wizard’s day trip to Tacoma! So cool you got to go aboard it! I’d love to do that one day! & on my most favorite Deadliest Catch boat the Northwestern! I’d love to meet Sig, Mandy, & Clark sometime this summer after I get back from my vacation that would be so awesome! 🦀
It was really really cool.
What is salmon tendering?
They act as a shuttle taking fish from the smaller boats to the larger processing boats.
Cool!
That was an awesome time-lapse of the Wizard's day trip down to Tacoma and back to Fishermen's Terminal on Monday. I wish I was able to go on that day trip as well, but that will have to wait until next year.
Next year for sure!
Come check out the steam engine in my ship some time, the Virginia V.
Love the Virginia V! Saw it again at CYA this weekend.
@@Serafinoetal I'm one of the oilers.
Lemme get a job
I don't actually work on the boat, just got to know them by being around the dock. It's a good place to get a job though. Lots of boats there. People are often walking around and asking the different captain's.
The music sucks
Way of the world.
Is that not Sean Dwyer's boat beside the Wizard?
I'm trying to remember the specifics of this video while I'm in my car, but I think you are right. He's often got a couple of his boats over there.
Actually no. That actually almost looks like the Patricia Lee
@@TheKaidynB The Patricia Lee is one of Dwyer's boats... I believe it is named after Sean's sister. The first pictures of the boat shows the boat's name.
@@Jacques_Merde oh I didn’t know that! I thought Rip owned her
@@TheKaidynB Maybe she got sold? I do not know... I could be wrong.
We were just there last weekend, 05/04/24
Very cool. It's a fun thing to go through for sure. Great history.
The Syttende Mai parade is next Friday already I'd love to go hopefully I can I'd love to meet Sig & Mandy & their family that would be so cool ❤
I hated having to miss it again this year. Coast guard. Ugh.
@@Serafinoetal I'll definitely try & go next year & maybe you, me & John can meet up & watch the parade together next year ❤

I love the music
Yeah me too. Interesting that a couple so passionately dislike it, but I guess that's what makes the world go round.
I will admit It’s not my favorite but it’s not unbearable
That's so cool, had no clue these guys were still performing. Love their music.
Thanks! My wife is Rashree the singer. This was their first show since they moved away from Tampa in 2016. They'll be playing at the same festival in Seattle again this year.
Glad you guys made it out. I was *working* again. I just had my boat go down yesterday off the point across from the Port Orchard Marina. Would loved to have fresh water with all these damn shipworms
Jeez, like went down went down?
Love the Wizard, Keith took us on a tour of the hold/ tanks when I worked with Discovery Channel.
Ah so cool. Never had a personal Keith tour.
I looked up what the vessel covered in graffiti, it's an (former) Icelandic Coast Guard Vessel Albert. Built in 1956 and decommisioned in 1978. Apparently it's been sitting in Seattle for some time.
Icelandic!! That is crazy. Thanks for the info. In the meantime, it has sunk or mostly sunk I believe.
Other videos show that that the harness needs to be repined. If you didn’t have to, what part did you buy?
Did not have to repin at all. Been using it for a year or so now with no issues. Let me see if I can track down the part.
This is the one I bought. I do see some different insulators for the connector as if re-pinning is an option, but it wasn't required on mine. www.ebay.com/itm/324598282628
bro they have done nothing but do maneuvers with that plane. Just certify it and use it already!
I get it.
she should not be allowed to wonder about on a working vessel, stupid.....
You would have to be doing well to cut your income and still have a boat like that.
Not really. I make just over minimum wage in Seattle; closer to the poverty line than middle class. It's much less expensive than even a cheap apartment and certainly less than a house these days. I've learned how to maintain the systems which certainly cuts down on maintenance costs. Cheers,
Cod trap
Got it. Thanks,
What size are the two bolts

Sorry bud. Wish I could tell you.
Not the real wizard from the show tho
What? Yeah it is clearly lol
:/
Lmao man a nice replica they made eh….Not the real wizard 🤪😭
Not overly impressed with the general condition of the engineering space.
@@kiowa1508 I mean, for an 80 year old lowest bidder Navy ship. not bad.....compared to other shipping standards, shes starting to look like a bit of a hulk
Love This! Great job Erik! Thanks for the “actual” tour. Keep the videos coming
Thanks! Will do!
It's remarkably sad how far F1 went to block the track from "non paying" persons. While it's free on ESPN..
Yeah I agree. Especially after they kicked us paying ticket holders out.
Wait is that like legal or not?
Do you even know what's going on in Vegas? these are public streets that will only be closed during practice, qualifying and the race. Las Vegas residents paid for all this through tax dollars to host F1 and the local residents won't see a dime of the overpriced income.
In the run up to the race, the racetrack and comes as many of the public roads so they are kept open as long as they possibly can. They open and shut multiple times during the day when they are not in use.
Is that a fair price for a personal pizza 10$usd?
It's not horrible for a sporting event, but not great. The potatoes in a cup were by far the best deal though at four bucks.
Well I live in the area and this must be such an amazingly orchestrated activity because things seem to be running flawlessly
It looked pretty impressive when we were watching. Wasn't able to see them pull the gate, but looks like they got it out.
