I can totally understand why people might not like Eggleston. I was not sure, but some of the colour work is outstanding. Personally I think The Outlands is the best set out there for him and found Chromes underwhelming as there is a lot of cross-over and the printing was not so good.

I've been to the Cardross site (1:42) to take photos myself. Look up St Peter's seminary, Cardross for some interesting background.

Agree, it was one I was interested in seeing, but I sold it after buying it.

It reminded me so much of my mum's own last days. I can see why a lot of people would find it very dull, but if you know, you know this book.

I really like this book, he took so many pictures everyone is going to have a different favourite era. I really like the Pittsburg book (book 4 I think)

It is a triumph of book making, so much effort has been put in to it.

Oh really, was it part of a special trip? I have been to the outer Hebrides but not St Kilda. (I live in Scotland) I buy and sell books, so I have a lot- maybe 400 at any one time, but my I keep signed copies and special books for myself. A lot of the filmed books I no longer have. My dad was into photography and I did design and photography at art school so I have always had an interest. Some of my favourites are Mitch Epstein - American Power, Chris Killip - In Flagrante, Stephen Shore - Uncommon Places, Robert Adams - The New West, Paul Graham - A1, Vanessa Winship - She Dances on Jackson and Tony Ray Jones. @@photobookguy1380 It was through a boat company on Skye. We booked it a few months in advance and traveled up specially for it. Fortunately the weather was favorable thus making it a safe journey to and from the archipelago. The weather really does make or break a trip like this as you can't really be sure if it will go ahead. It was my first and only time to that region of Scotland but it really is a beautiful place to visit. 400 is a lot! You must have seen all that photography has to offer! I have been getting into photography lately and purchasing books. Will explore your favourites. A couple I have enjoyed are On Reading by Andre Kertesz (so much so I made a video on him) and Nepal: The Mountains of Heaven by David Paterson. I enjoy watching your youtube videos - thanks for making them! 😃

It is a nice overview book. Good to see some of his very early work that is very expensive to get hold of.

@@photobookguy1380 Yes, it has a great Parr-quality all over it. Funny and fascinating. Helge Skodvin once told me about his working methods to carry out this project, which are also very interesting. He used all sort of tricks to systematically locate Volvo 240s in Norway: Scanning craiglist car-sites, matching license plates with different registers, visiting large parking lots, spontaneously following cars he met in traffic etc

Same with me, I found it in a random second hand book shop on holiday. An interesting mix of photos.

Soup would be nice! I've been busy trying to get my ebay shop back up to speed after the holidays.

I have tried to make the videos as high quality as possible, but anything over a couple of minutes ends up with enormous file sizes. I think this upload was about 1GB, but at the higher res was about 8GB and it just takes too much time to process and fills memory capacity very quickly. If anyone can recommend a better way I'd happily do that. Cheers

​@@photobookguy1380okay thanks for your reply! I'm not really a video guy so can't give any valuable pointers. Depending on camera there are ways to film and greatly reduce file size, for instance by using the h265-codec. Another suggestion is to perhaps think about how you light and white balance the recording, nailing this will improve percieved quality without increasing file sizes... Just trying to be helpful! Keep it up!

I see this book as an outsider to this culture. It has an otherness for me, how do US based guys like yourself see a book like this? Does it depend on whether you are East / West coast or middle America do you think? There is just such a vastness in geography and outlook in such a land mass that must make it difficult to be One Nation. I'm from a country that is tiny in comparison, yet we have divisions that are huge.

@@photobookguy1380 that’s a really great question. The different regions of the United States are very distinct. The south is very different than the northeast, for instance, where I’m from. Politically, culturally, around matters of race and many other details. There’s a lot to understand that unpack. I imagine it’s even harder with, less context from another country
