Okay but its not okay to dismiss abuse because it wasn't physical. The damage is just as bad. And, even physically abusive people are a product of their environment. It's important to understand how complicated family dynamics, especially one with a primary abuser, can be. But yeah her step sisters were likely abusive to Cinderella because of their mother. In these dynamics, it really is dog-eat-dog and siblings have to fight tooth and nail to be favored or at least minimally abused. Sometimes that means contributing to abusing the weakest link. It's a harsh reality.

People forget, even in an altrenate story where both sisters were abused by their mother, they are still villains. You can have the worst childhood and still be a villain.

Sooo...even if all of that were accurate, and those were her motivations, being "a product of ones upbringing" is a reason for the behavior, but not an excuse. It doesn’t make it okay, and for her not to be a villain, she'd have to put effort into changing, which she doesn’t. So yeah, maybe with this interpretation, she's a victim. But she's not innocent.

I'm pretty sure both Anastasia and Drizella were abused and a product of their times. It clearly doesn't excuse what they both did to Cinderella, but remember: They both grew up jealous of Cinderella being beautiful and kind-hearted compared to them. Also, despite always bickering with her, Drizella clearly loved Anastasia, as shown in the second film, when after their mother criticized her for falling for the baker, she had a horrified expression on her face, but didn't say anything out of fear of also getting into trouble. Therefore, all she can do is agree with her mother and put down Anastasia as well. I think it sucks that Drizella didn't get to redeem while Anastasia did, but you can also argue that because she was Tremaine's oldest child, she had a hard time breaking out of that abusive cycle. Just my thoughts. No need to agree.

I don’t think she was impacted by being compared to Cinderella. I think she was impacted by being compared to her mother who (despite what we all feel about her) was the standard of beauty and grace in her heyday. That’s why Cinderella’s dad married Tremaine: so that Cinderella could emulate Tremaine’s ladylike traits. Drizella and Anastasia would have definitely heard people commenting on how they didn’t inherit their mothers looks or talent long before Tremaine’s second marriage. Ending up with a stepsister that has more in common with their esteemed mother was just salt in their wounds
